Isaías 58

1 Clama em alta voz, não te retenhas, levanta a tua voz como a trombeta e anuncia ao meu povo a sua transgressão, e à casa de Jacob os seus pecados.

Cry out! Cease not! Exalt your voice like a trumpet, and announce to my people their wicked acts, and to the house of Jacob their sins.

2 Ainda que me buscam cada dia, tomam prazer em saber os meus caminhos, como um povo que obra justiça, e não deixa o direito do seu Deus: perguntam-me pelos direitos da justiça, e tem prazer em se chegarem a Deus,

For they also seek me, from day to day, and they are willing to know my ways, like a nation which has done justice and has not abandoned the judgment of their God. They petition me for judgments of justice. They are willing to draw near to God.

3 Dizendo: Porque jejuamos nós, e tu não atentas para isso? Porque afligimos as nossas almas, e tu o não sabes? Eis que no dia em que jejuais achais o vosso contentamento, e estreitamente requereis todo o vosso trabalho.

“Why have we fasted, and you have not taken notice? Why have we humbled our souls, and you have not acknowledged it?” Behold, in the day of your fasting, your own will is found, and you petition for payment from all your debtors.

4 Eis que para contendas e debates jejuais, e para dardes punhadas impiamente: não jejueis como hoje, para fazer ouvir a vossa voz no alto.

Behold, you fast with strife and contention, and you strike with the fist impiously. Do not choose to fast as you have done even to this day. Then your outcry will be heard on high.

5 Seria este o jejum que eu escolheria, que o homem um dia aflija a sua alma? que incline a sua cabeça como o junco, e estenda debaixo de si saco e cinza? chamarias tu a isto jejum e dia aprazível ao Senhor?

Is this a fast such as I have chosen: for a man to afflict his soul for a day, to contort his head in a circle, and to spread sackcloth and ashes? Should you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the Lord?

6 Porventura não é este o jejum que escolhi? que soltes as ligaduras da impiedade, que desfaças as ataduras do jugo? e que deixes livres os quebrantados, e despedaces todo o jugo?

Is not this, instead, the kind of fast that I have chosen? Release the constraints of impiety; relieve the burdens that oppress; freely forgive those who are broken; and break apart every burden.

7 Porventura não é também que repartas o teu pão com o faminto, e recolhas em casa os pobres desterrados? e, vendo o nú, o cubras, e não te escondas da tua carne?

Break your bread with the hungry, and lead the destitute and the homeless into your house. When you see someone naked, cover him, and do not despise your own flesh.

8 Então romperá a tua luz como a alva, e a tua cura apressadamente brotará, e a tua justiça irá adiante da tua face, e a glória do Senhor será a tua retaguarda.

Then your light will break forth like the morning, and your health will improve quickly, and your justice will go before your face, and the glory of the Lord will gather you up.

9 Então clamarás, e o Senhor te responderá; gritarás, e ele dirá: Eis-me aqui: se tirares do meio de ti o jugo, o estender do dedo, e o falar vaidade;

Then you will call, and the Lord will heed; you will cry out, and he will say, “Here I am,” if you take away the chains from your midst, and cease to point your finger and to speak what is not beneficial.

10 E se abrires a tua alma ao faminto, e fartares a alma aflita: então a tua luz nascerá nas trevas, e a tua escuridão será como o meio dia

When you pour out your life for the hungry, and you satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will rise up in darkness, and your darkness will be like the midday.

11 E o Senhor te guiará continuamente, e fartará a tua alma em grandes sequidões, e fortificará os teus ossos; e serás como um jardim regado, e como um manancial de águas, cujas águas nunca faltam.

And the Lord will give you rest continually, and he will fill your soul with splendor, and he will free your bones, and you will be like a watered garden and like a fountain of water whose waters will not fail.

12 E os que de ti procederem edificarão os lugares antigamente assolados; e levantarás os fundamentos de geração em geração: e chamar-te-ão reparador das roturas, e restaurador de veredas para morar.

And places that have been desolate for ages will be built up by you. You will raise a foundation for generation after generation. And you will be called the repairer of hedges, who turns the roadways into quiet places.

13 Se desviares o teu pé do sábado, de fazeres a tua vontade no meu santo dia, e chamares ao sábado deleitoso, e o santo dia do Senhor, digno de honra, e o honrares não seguindo os teus caminhos, nem pretendendo fazer a tua própria vontade, nem falares as tuas próprias palavras,

If you restrain your foot on the Sabbath, from doing your own will on my holy day, and if you call the Sabbath delightful, and the Holy of the Lord glorious, and if you glorify him, while you do not act according to your own ways, and your own will is not found, not even to speak a word,

14 Então te deleitarás no Senhor, e te farei cavalgar sobre as alturas da terra, a te sustentarei com a herança de teu pai Jacob; porque a boca do Senhor o falou.

then you will find delight in the Lord, and I will take you up, above the heights of the earth, and I will nourish you with the inheritance of Jacob, your father. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
