Isaías 40
1 Consolai, consolai o meu povo, diz o vosso Deus.
Comfort ye, comfort ye My people, saith your God.
2 Falai benignamente a Jerusalém, e bradai-lhe que já a sua malícia é acabada, que já a sua iniquidade está expiada e que já recebeu em dobro da mão do Senhor, por todos os seus pecados.
Bid Jerusalem take heart, and proclaim unto her, that her time of service is accomplished, that her guilt is paid off; that she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.
3 Voz do que clama no deserto: aparelhai o caminho do Senhor: endireitai no ermo vereda a nosso Deus.
Hark! one calleth: 'Clear ye in the wilderness the way of the LORD, make plain in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Todo o vale será exaltado, e todo o monte e todo o outeiro serão abatidos: e o torcido se endireitará, e o áspero se aplainará.
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the rugged shall be made level, and the rough places a plain;
5 E a glória do Senhor se manifestará, e toda a carne juntamente verá que a boca do Senhor o disse.
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.'
6 Voz que diz: Clama; e disse: Que hei de clamar? Toda a carne é erva e toda a sua benignidade como as flores do campo.
Hark! one saith: 'Proclaim!' And he saith: 'What shall I proclaim?' 'All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field;
7 Seca-se a erva, e caem as flores, soprando nelas o espírito do Senhor. Na verdade que erva é o povo.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; because the breath of the LORD bloweth upon it — surely the people is grass.
8 Seca-se a erva, e caem as flores, porém a palavra de nosso Deus subsiste eternamente.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand for ever.'
9 Ah Sião, anunciadora de boas novas, sobe tu a um monte alto. Ah Jerusalém, anunciadora de boas novas, levanta a tua voz fortemente; levanta-a, não temas, e dize às cidades de Judá: Eis aqui está o vosso Deus.
O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up into the high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah: 'Behold your God!'
10 Eis que o Senhor Jehovah virá contra o forte, e o seu braço se assenhoreará dele: eis que o seu galardão vem com ele, e o seu salário diante da sua face.
Behold, the Lord GOD will come as a Mighty One, and His arm will rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.
11 Como pastor apascentará o seu rebanho; entre os seus braços recolherá os cordeirinhos, e os levará no seu seio: as paridas guiará suavemente.
Even as a shepherd that feedeth his flock, that gathereth the lambs in his arm, and carrieth them in his bosom, and gently leadeth those that give suck.
12 Quem mediu com o seu punho as águas, e tomou a medida dos céus aos palmos, e recolheu na maior medida o pó da terra e pesou os montes com peso e os outeiros em balanças?
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Quem guiou o espírito do Senhor? e que conselheiro o ensinou?
Who hath meted out the spirit of the LORD? Or who was His counsellor that he might instruct Him?
14 Com quem tomou conselho, que lhe desse entendimento, e lhe ensinasse o caminho do juízo? lhe ensinasse sabedoria, e lhe fizesse notório o caminho da ciência?
With whom took He counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of right, and taught Him knowledge, and made Him to know the way of discernment?
15 Eis que as nações são consideradas por ele como a gota dum balde, e como o pó miúdo das balanças: eis que lança por ai as ilhas como a pó miúdo.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance; behold the isles are as a mote in weight.
16 Nem todo o líbano basta para o fogo, nem os seus animais bastam para holocaustos.
And Lebanon is not sufficient fuel, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for burnt-offerings.
17 Todas as nações são como nada perante ele; e as reputa por menos que nada e como uma coisa vã
All the nations are as nothing before Him; they are accounted by Him as things of nought, and vanity.
18 A quem pois fareis semelhante a Deus? ou que semelhança lhe apropriareis?
To whom then will ye liken God? Or what likeness will ye compare unto Him?
19 O artífice funde a imagem, e o ourives a cobre de ouro, e cadeias de prata lhe funde.
The image perchance, which the craftsman hath melted, and the goldsmith spread over with gold, the silversmith casting silver chains?
20 O empobrecido, que já não tem que oferecer, escolhe madeira que não se corrompe: artífice sábio se busca, para aparelhar uma imagem que se não possa mover.
A holm-oak is set apart, he chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning craftsman to set up an image, that shall not be moved.
21 Porventura não sabeis? porventura não ouvis? ou desde o princípio se vos não notificou? ou não atentastes para os fundamentos da terra?
Know ye not? hear ye not? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood the foundations of the earth?
22 Ele é o que está assentado sobre o globo da terra, cujos moradores são para ele como gafanhotos: ele é o que estende os céus como cortina, e os desenrola como tenda, para habitar neles:
It is He that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;
23 O que torna em nada os príncipes, e faz como em coisa vã os juízes da terra.
That bringeth princes to nothing; He maketh the judges of the earth as a thing of nought.
24 E nem se plantam, nem se semeiam, nem se arraiga na terra o seu tronco cortado, e neles, soprando, se secaram, e um tufão como pragana os levará.
Scarce are they planted, scarce are they sown, scarce hath their stock taken root in the earth; when He bloweth upon them, they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.
25 A quem pois me fareis semelhante, que lhe seja semelhante? diz o Santo.
To whom then will ye liken Me, that I should be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Levantai ao alto os vossos olhos, e vede quem criou estas coisas, quem produz por conta o seu exército, quem a todas chama pelos seus nomes; por causa da grandeza das suas forças, e porquanto é forte em poder, nenhuma delas vem a faltar.
Lift up your eyes on high, and see: who hath created these? He that bringeth out their host by number, He calleth them all by name; by the greatness of His might, and for that He is strong in power, not one faileth.
27 Porque pois dizes, ó Jacob, e tu falas, ó Israel: O meu caminho está encoberto ao Senhor, e o meu juízo passa de largo pelo meu Deus?
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel: 'My way is hid from the LORD, and my right is passed over from my God'?
28 Porventura não sabes, porventura não ouviste que o eterno Deus, o Senhor, o criador dos fins da terra, nem se cança nem se fatiga? não há esquadrinhação do seu entendimento.
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? His discernment is past searching out.
29 Dá esforço ao cançado, e multiplica as forças ao que não tem nenhum vigor.
He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might He increaseth strength.
30 Os moços se cançarão e se fatigarão, e os mancebos certamente cairão.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall;
31 Mas os que esperam no Senhor renovarão as forças, subirão com asas como águias: correrão, e não se cançarão; caminharão, e não se fatigarão.
But they that wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.
