1 No ano segundo do rei Dario, no sexto mes, no primeiro dia do mes, veio a palavra do Senhor, pelo ministério do profeta Aggeo, a Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, príncipe de Judá, e a Josué, filho de Josadac, o sumo sacerdote, dizendo:
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Aggeus the prophet, to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, saying:
2 Assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos, dizendo: Este povo diz: Não é vindo o tempo, o tempo em que a casa do Senhor se edifique.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, saying: This people saith: The time is not yet come for building the house of the Lord.
3 Veio pois a palavra do Senhor, pelo ministério do profeta Aggeo, dizendo:
And the word of the Lord came by the hand of Aggeus the prophet, saying:
4 Porventura é para vós tempo de habitardes nas vossas casas entaboladas, e esta casa há de ficar deserta?
Is it time for you to dwell in ceiled houses, and this house lie desolate?
5 Ora pois, assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: aplicai os vossos corações aos vossos caminhos.
And now thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts to consider your ways.
6 Semeiais muito, e recolheis pouco; comeis, porém não vos fartais; bebeis, porém não vos saciais; vestis-vos, porém ninguém fica quente; e o que recebe salário, recebe salário num saco furado.
You have sowed much, and brought in little: you have eaten, but have not had enough: you have drunk, but have not been filled with drink: you have clothed yourselves, but have not been warmed: and he that hath earned wages, put them into a bag with holes.
7 Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: aplicai os vossos corações aos vossos caminhos.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set Your hearts upon your ways:
8 Subi ao monte, e trazei madeira, e edificai a casa, e dela me agradarei, e serei glorificado, diz o Senhor.
Go up to the mountain, bring timber, and build the house: and it shall be acceptable to me, and I shall be glorified, saith the Lord.
9 Olhastes para muito, mas eis que alcançastes pouco; e, quando o trouxestes a casa, eu lhe assoprei. Por que causa? disse o Senhor dos exércitos: por causa da minha casa, que está deserta, e cada um de vós corre à sua própria casa.
You have looked for more, and behold it became less, and you brought it home, and I blowed it away: why, saith the Lord of hosts? because my house is desolate, and you make haste every man to his own house.
10 Por isso se cerram os céus sobre vós, para não darem orvalho e a terra detém os seus frutos.
Therefore the heavens over you were stayed from giving dew, and the earth was hindered from yielding her fruits:
11 Porque chamei secura sobre a terra, e sobre os montes, e sobre o trigo e sobre o mosto; e sobre o azeite, e sobre o que a terra produz: como também sobre os homens, e sobre os animais, e sobre todo o trabalho das mãos.
And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon all that the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon beasts, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12 Então ouviu Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e Josué, filho de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, e todo o resto do povo a voz do Senhor seu Deus; e as palavras do profeta Aggeo, assim como o Senhor seu Deus o enviou; e temeu o povo diante do Senhor.
Then Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and all the remnant of the people hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, and to the words of Aggeus the prophet, as the Lord their God sent him to them: and the people feared before the Lord.
13 Então Aggeo, o embaixador do Senhor, na embaixada do Senhor, falou ao povo, dizendo: Eu sou convosco, diz o Senhor.
And Aggeus the messenger of the Lord, as one of the messengers of the Lord, spoke, saying to the people: I am with you, saith the Lord.
14 E o Senhor suscitou o espírito de Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, príncipe de Judá, e o espírito de Josué, filho de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, e o espírito do resto de todo o povo, e vieram, e fizeram a obra na casa do Senhor dos exércitos, seu Deus,
And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zorobabel the son of Salathiel governor of Juda, and the spirit of Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people: and they went in, and did the work in the house of the Lord of hosts their God.
15 Ao vigésimo quarto dia do sexto mes, no segundo ano do rei Dario.
In the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king, they began.
