Gálatas 3
1 Ó insensatos Gálatas! quem vos fascinou para não obedecerdes à verdade, vós, perante os olhos de quem Jesus Cristo foi já representado, como crucificado entre vós?
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you to keep you from obeying the truth? In your presence, before your very eyes, Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.
2 Só quizera saber isto de vós: recebestes o espírito pelas obras da lei ou pela pregação da fé?
Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?
3 Sois vós tão insensatos que, tendo começado pelo espírito, acabeis agora pela carne?
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now trying to be perfected by the flesh?
4 Será em vão que tenhais padecido tanto? Se é que também foi em vão.
Did you suffer so much in vain?—if indeed it was in vain.
5 Aquele pois que vos dá o espírito, e que obra maravilhas entre vós, fa-lo pelas obras da lei, ou pela pregação da fé?
Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you because you perform the works of the law or because you hear with faith?
6 Assim como Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.
Remember, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”
7 Sabei pois que os que são da fé são filhos de Abraão.
Therefore you must understand that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham.
8 Ora, tendo a escritura previsto que Deus havia de justificar pela fé os gentios, anunciou primeiro o evangelho a Abraão, dizendo: Todas as nações serão benditas em ti.
Now the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in yoʋ.”
9 De sorte que os que são da fé são benditos com o crente Abraão.
So then, those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
10 Todos aqueles pois que são das obras da lei estão debaixo da maldição; porque escrito está: Maldito todo aquele que não permanecer em todas as coisas que estão escritas no livro da lei, para fazê-las.
For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”
11 E é evidente que pela lei ninguém será justificado diante de Deus, porque o justo viverá pela fé
Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, because “the righteous will live by faith.”
12 Ora a lei não é da fé; mas o homem que fizer estas coisas por elas viverá.
But the law is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The person who does these things will live by them.”
13 Cristo nos resgatou da maldição da lei, fazendo-se maldição por nós; porque está escrito: Maldito todo aquele que for pendurado no madeiro;
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”
14 Para que a benção de Abraão chegasse aos gentios por Jesus Cristo, e para que pela fé nós recebamos a promessa do espírito.
He redeemed us so that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Irmãos, como homem falo; se o concerto de um homem for confirmado, ninguém o anula nem lhe acrescenta.
Brothers, let me give an example from everyday life: When a man-made covenant is ratified, no one annuls it or adds to it.
16 Ora as promessas foram feitas a Abraão e à sua posteridade. Não diz: E às posteridades, como falando de muitas, mas como de uma só: E à tua posteridade; a qual é Cristo.
Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “And to his descendants,” referring to many, but referring to one man it says, “And to yoʋr descendant,” who is Christ.
17 Mas digo isto: Que o concerto, anteriormente confirmado por Deus em Cristo, a lei, que veio quatrocentos e trinta anos depois, não inválida, de forma a abolir a promessa.
My point is this: The law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul a covenant previously ratified by God to Christ, so as to invalidate the promise.
18 Porque, se a herança provém da lei, logo não provém já da promessa: porém Deus pela promessa a deu gratuitamente a Abraão.
For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by the promise; but God granted it to Abraham by a promise.
19 Logo, para que é a lei? Foi ordenada por causa das transgressões, até que viesse a posteridade a quem a promessa tinha sido feita; e foi posta pelos anjos na mão de um medianeiro.
Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the descendant should come to whom the promise had been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.
20 Ora o medianeiro não é de um, mas Deus é um
Now a mediator does not represent just one party, but God is one.
21 Logo, a lei é contra as promessas de Deus? De nenhuma sorte; porque, se dada fosse uma lei que pudesse vivificar, a justiça, na verdade, seria pela lei.
Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that was able to give life, truly righteousness would have come through the law.
22 Mas a escritura encerrou tudo debaixo do pecado, para que a promessa pela fé em Jesus Cristo fosse dada aos crentes.
But the Scripture has confined all under sin, so that the promise might be given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ to those who believe.
23 Porém, antes que a fé viesse, estávamos guardados debaixo da lei, e encerrados para aquela fé que se havia de manifestar.
Now before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined until the faith that was to come would be revealed.
24 De maneira que a lei nos serviu de aio, para nos conduzir a Cristo, para que pela fé fossemos justificados.
The law, then, was our guardian until Christ came, so that we could be justified by faith.
25 Mas, depois que a fé veio, já não estamos debaixo de aio.
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,
26 Porque todos sois filhos de Deus pela fé em Cristo Jesus.
for you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27 Porque todos quantos fostes batizados em Cristo já vos revestistes de Cristo.
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 Nisto não há judeu nem grego; não há servo nem livre; não há macho nem fêmea; porque todos vós sois um em Cristo Jesus.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 E, se sois de Cristo, logo sois descendência de Abraão, e herdeiros conforme a promessa.
And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants and heirs according to the promise.
