Êxodo 17
1 Depois toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel partiu do deserto de Sin pelas suas jornadas, segundo o mandamento do Senhor, e acamparam em Rephidim; e não havia ali água para o povo beber.
And all the congregation of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeys, by the command of YHWH, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;
2 Então contendeu o povo com Moisés, e disseram: dai-nos água para beber. E Moisés lhes disse: Porque contendeis comigo? porque tentais ao Senhor?
and the people strive with Moses, and say, “Give us water, and we drink.” And Moses says to them, “Why do you strive with me? Why do you try YHWH?”
3 Tendo pois ali o povo sede d'água, o povo murmurou contra Moisés, e disse: Porque nos fizeste subir do Egito, para nos matares de sede, a nós e aos nossos filhos, e ao nosso gado?
And the people thirst for water there, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, “Why [is] this [that] you have brought us up out of Egypt to put us to death, also our sons and our livestock, with thirst?”
4 E clamou Moisés ao Senhor, dizendo: Que farei a este povo? daqui a pouco me apedrejarão.
And Moses cries to YHWH, saying, “What do I do to this people? Yet a little, and they have stoned me.”
5 Então disse o Senhor a Moisés: Passa diante do povo, e toma contigo alguns dos anciãos de Israel: e toma na tua mão a tua vara, com que feriste o rio: vai
And YHWH says to Moses, “Pass over before the people, and take with you from [the] elderly of Israel, and take your rod in your hand, with which you have struck the River, and you have gone.
6 Eis que eu estarei ali diante de ti sobre a rocha, em Horeb, e tu ferirás a rocha, e dela sairão águas e o povo beberá. E Moisés assim o fez, diante dos olhos dos anciãos de Israel.
Behold, I am standing before you there on the rock in Horeb, and you have struck on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.” And Moses does so before the eyes of [the] elderly of Israel,
7 E chamou o nome daquele lugar Massah e Meribah, por causa da contenda dos filhos de Israel, e porquanto tentaram ao Senhor, dizendo: Está o Senhor no meio de nós, ou não?
and he calls the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the strife of the sons of Israel, and because of their trying YHWH, saying, “Is YHWH in our midst or not?”
8 Então veio Amalek, e pelejou contra Israel em Rephidim.
And Amalek comes, and fights with Israel in Rephidim,
9 Pelo que disse Moisés a Josué: Escolhe-nos homens, e sai, peleja contra Amalek: amanhã eu estarei sobre o cume do outeiro, e a vara de Deus estará na minha mão.
and Moses says to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.”
10 E fez Josué como Moisés lhe dissera, pelejando contra Amalek: mas Moisés, Aarão, e Hur subiram ao cume do outeiro.
And Joshua does as Moses has said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur have gone up [to] the top of the height;
11 E acontecia que, quando Moisés levantava a sua mão, Israel prevalecia: mas quando ele abaixava a sua mão, Amalek prevalecia.
and it has come to pass, when Moses lifts up his hand, that Israel has been mighty, and when he lets his hands rest, that Amalek has been mighty.
12 Porém as mãos de Moisés eram pesadas, por isso tomaram uma pedra, e a puseram debaixo dele, para assentar-se sobre ela: e Aarão e Hur sustentaram as suas mãos, um de uma banda, e o outra da outra: assim ficaram as suas mãos firmes até que o sol se pôs
And the hands of Moses [are] heavy, and they take a stone and set [it] under him, and he sits on it, and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, one on this [side] and one on that [side]; and his hands are steadfast until the going in of the sun;
13 E assim Josué desfez a Amalek, e a seu povo, ao fio da espada.
and Joshua weakens Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.
14 Então disse o Senhor a Moisés; Escreve isto para memória num livro, e relata-o aos ouvidos de Josué; que eu totalmente hei de riscar a memória de amalek de debaixo dos céus.
And YHWH says to Moses, “Write this, a memorial in a Scroll, and set [it] in the ears of Joshua, that I utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens”;
15 E Moisés edificou um altar, e chamou o seu nome, o Senhor é minha bandeira.
and Moses builds an altar, and calls its name YHWH-Nissi,
16 E disse: Porquanto jurou o Senhor, haverá guerra do Senhor contra Amalek de geração em geração.
and says, “Because a hand [is] on the throne of YAH, war [is] to YHWH with Amalek from generation [to] generation.”
