Eclesiastes 8
1 Quem é tal como o sábio? e quem sabe a interpretação das coisas? A sabedoria do homem alumia o seu rosto, e a aspereza do seu rosto se muda.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.
2 Eu digo: Observa o mandamento do rei, porém segundo a palavra do juramento que fizeste a Deus.
I [counsel thee], Keep the king’s command, and that in regard of the oath of God.
3 Não te apresses a sair da presença dele, nem persistas em alguma coisa má, porque ele faz tudo o que quer.
Be not hasty to go out of his presence; persist not in an evil thing: for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
4 Onde há a palavra do rei, ai está o poder; e quem lhe dirá: Que fazes?
For the king’s word [hath] power; and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
5 Quem guardar o mandamento não experimentará nenhum mal; e o coração do sábio saberá o tempo e o modo
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall know no evil thing; and a wise man’s heart discerneth time and judgment:
6 Porque para todo o propósito há seu tempo e seu modo; porquanto o mal do homem é muito sobre ele.
for to every purpose there is a time and judgment; because the misery of man is great upon him:
7 Porque não sabe o que há de suceder: e, quando haja de suceder, quem lho dará a entender?
for he knoweth not that which shall be; for who can tell him how it shall be?
8 Nenhum homem há que tenha domínio sobre o espírito, para reter o espírito; nem tão pouco tem ele poder sobre o dia da morte: como também nem armas nesta peleja: nem tão pouco a impiedade livrará aos ímpios.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power over the day of death; and there is no discharge in war: neither shall wickedness deliver him that is given to it.
9 Tudo isto vi quando apliquei o meu coração a toda a obra que se faz debaixo do sol: tempo há em que um homem tem domínio sobre outro homem, para desgraça sua.
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: [there is] a time wherein one man hath power over another to his hurt.
10 Assim também vi os ímpios sepultados, e os que vinham, e saiam do lugar santo, que foram esquecidos na cidade em que fizeram bem: também isto é vaidade.
So I saw the wicked buried, and they came [to the grave]; and they that had done right went away from the holy place, and were forgotten in the city: this also is vanity.
11 Porquanto logo se não executa o juízo sobre a má obra, por isso o coração dos filhos dos homens está inteiramente disposto para obrar o mal.
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
12 Ainda que o pecador faça mal cem vezes, e os dias se lhe prolonguem, contudo bem sei eu, que bem sucede aos que temem a Deus, aos que temerem diante dele.
Though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and prolong his [days], yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, that fear before him:
13 Porém ao ímpio não irá bem, e ele não prolongará os dias; será como a sombra; visto que ele não teme diante de Deus.
but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong [his] days, [which are] as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
14 Ainda há outra vaidade que se faz sobre a terra: que há justos a quem sucede segundo as obras dos ímpios, e há ímpios a quem sucede segundo as obras dos justos. Digo que também isto é vaidade.
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
15 Assim que louvei eu a alegria, porquanto o homem coisa nenhuma melhor tem debaixo do sol do que comer, beber e alegrar-se; porque isso o acompanhará no seu trabalho nos dias da sua vida que Deus lhe dá debaixo do sol.
Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be joyful: for that shall abide with him in his labor [all] the days of his life which God hath given him under the sun.
16 Aplicando eu o meu coração a entender a sabedoria, e a ver a ocupação que há sobre a terra; que nem de dia nem de noite vê o homem sono nos seus olhos.
When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes),
17 Então vi toda a obra de Deus, que o homem não pode alcançar, a obra que se faz debaixo do sol, pela qual trabalha o homem para a buscar, porém não a achará; e, ainda que diga o sábio que a virá a saber, nem por isso a poderá alcançar.
then I beheld all the work of God, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because however much a man labor to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea moreover, though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
