Deuteronômio 2
1 Depois viramo-nos, e caminhamos ao deserto, caminho do Mar Vermelho, como o Senhor me tinha dito, e muitos dias rodeamos a montanha de Seir.
Then we turned around and headed back into the desert on the road that leads to the Red Sea, as the Lord had told me, and we wandered around Mount Seir for a long time.
2 Então o Senhor me falou, dizendo:
This is when the Lord told me,
3 Assás tendes rodeado esta montanha: virai-vos para o norte.
“You have been wandering around this mountain long enough. Go back north,
4 E dá ordem ao povo, dizendo: Passareis pelos termos de vossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir: e eles terão medo de vós; porém guardai-vos bem,
and give these orders to the people: ‘You are going to pass through the territory of your relatives, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be frightened of you, so you need to be very careful.
5 Não vos entremetais com eles, porque vos não darei da sua terra nem ainda a pisada da planta de um pé: porquanto a Esaú tenho dado a montanha de Seir por herança.
Don't fight them, for I'm not going to give you any of their land, not even the size of a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau and it belongs to him.
6 Comprareis deles, por dinheiro, comida para comerdes: e também água para beber deles comprareis por dinheiro.
Pay them with money for the food you eat and the water you drink.’
7 Pois o Senhor teu Deus te abençoou em toda a obra das tuas mãos; ele sabe que andas por este grande deserto: estes quarenta anos o Senhor teu Deus esteve contigo, coisa nenhuma te faltou.
Remember that the Lord your God has blessed you in everything you've done. He has looked after you during your journey through this large desert. The Lord your God has been with you for these forty years, and you haven't lacked anything.”
8 Passando pois de nossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitavam em Seir, desde o caminho da planície de Elath e de Ezeon-geber, nos viramos e passamos o caminho do deserto de Moab.
So we passed by our relatives, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We didn't take the Arabah road from Elath and Ezion-geber. Instead we used the road that goes through the desert of Moab.
9 Então o Senhor me disse: Não molestes a Moab, e não contendas com eles em peleja, porque te não darei herança da sua terra; porquanto tenho dado a Ar aos filhos de Lot por herança.
Then the Lord told me, “Don't cause the Moabites any trouble or fight them, for I'm not going to give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot and it belongs to them.”
10 (Os emeos de antes habitaram nela: um povo grande e numeroso, e alto como os gigantes;
(A strong and numerous people called the Emim once lived there. They were as tall as the Anakim,
11 Também estes foram contados por gigantes como os enaquins: e os moabitas os chamavam emeos.
and just like the Anakim, they were also considered as Rephaim, but the Moabites called them Emim.
12 De antes os horeus também habitaram em Seir: porém os filhos de Esaú os lançaram fora, e os destruiram de diante de si, e habitaram no seu lugar, assim como Israel fez à terra da sua herança, que o Senhor lhes tinha dado.
Previously the Horites lived in Seir, but the descendants of Esau took over their land. They killed the Horites and settled there, just like Israel did when they occupied the land that the Lord had given them.)
13 Levantai-vos agora, e passai o ribeiro de Zered: assim passamos o ribeiro de Zered.
Then the Lord told us, “Go and cross over Zered Brook.” So we crossed over Zered Brook.
14 E os dias que caminhamos, desde Cades-barnea até que passamos o ribeiro de Zered, foram trinta e oito anos, até que toda aquela geração dos homens de guerra se consumiu do meio do arraial, como o Senhor lhes jurara.
The time it took for us to travel from Kadesh-barnea to when we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years. By this time the entire generation of warriors had died and were no longer part of the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them would happen.
15 Assim também foi contra eles a mão do Senhor, para os destruir do meio do arraial até os haver consumido.
In fact the Lord worked against them to remove them from the camp, until they were all dead.
16 E sucedeu que, sendo já consumidos todos os homens de guerra, pela morte, do meio do arraial.
Once the people's warriors had died,
17 O Senhor me falou, dizendo:
the Lord told me,
18 Hoje passarás a Ar, pelos termos de Moab;
“Today you will cross out of Moab at the border near Ar.
19 E te chegarás até defronte dos filhos de Ammon: não os molestes, e com eles não contendas: porque da terra dos filhos de Ammon te não darei herança, porquanto aos filhos de Lot a tenho dado por herança.
However, when you get enter Ammonite territory, don't cause them any trouble or fight them for I'm not going to give you any Ammonite land, because I have given it to the descendants of Lot and it belongs to them.”
20 (também esta foi contada por terra de gigantes; de antes nela habitavam gigantes, e os ammonitas os chamavam zamzummeus:
(This land was previously considered as the country of the Rephaim who used to live there. However, the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
21 Um povo grande, e numeroso, e alto, como os gigantes: e o Senhor os destruiu de diante de si, e eles os lançaram fora, e habitaram no seu lugar;
They were a strong and numerous people, as tall as the Anakim. But the Lord destroyed them when the Ammonites invaded and drove them out and settled there,
22 Assim como fez com os filhos de Esaú, que habitavam em Seir, de diante dos quais destruiu os horeus, e eles os lançaram fora, e habitaram no seu lugar até este dia
just as he'd done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir when he destroyed the Horites. They drove them out and settled where they used to live, and are still there to this day.
23 Também os caftoreus, que sairam de Caftor, destruiram os aveus, que habitavam em Kazerim até Gaza, e habitaram no seu lugar).
The Avvim, living in villages as far away as Gaza, were destroyed by the Philistines, who came from Crete, and settled where they used to live.)
24 Levantai-vos, parti e passai o ribeiro de Arnon; eis aqui na tua mão tenho dado a Sehon, amorreu, rei de Hesbon, e a sua terra; começa a possui-la, e contende com eles em peleja.
Then the Lord told us, “Get up, go and cross the Arnon Valley. Look, I have handed over to you Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, as well as his land. Go and start taking it over, and fight him in battle.
25 Neste dia começarei a pôr um terror e um temor de ti diante dos povos que estão debaixo de todo o céu: os que ouvirem a tua fama tremerão diante de ti e se angustiarão.
From this day on, I'm going to make all nations on earth dread you—they will be terrified of you. Because of the news they hear about you they will tremble in terror when you appear.”
26 Então mandei mensageiros desde o deserto de Quedemoth a Sehon, rei de Hesbon, com palavras de paz, dizendo:
Moses told the Israelites, “From the Kedemoth Desert I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon, king of Heshbon, telling him,
27 Deixa-me passar pela tua terra: somente pela estrada irei; não me desviarei para a direita nem para a esquerda.
‘Let us pass through your land. We'll stay on the main road and won't turn off either to the right or to the left.
28 A comida que eu coma vender-ma-ás por dinheiro, e dar-me-ás por dinheiro a água que beba: tão somente deixa-me passar a pé;
Sell us food to eat and water to drink for money. Just let us pass through on foot,
29 Como fizeram comigo os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir, e os moabitas que habitam em Ar: até que eu passe o Jordão, a terra que o Senhor nosso Deus nos há de dar.
just like the descendants of Esau living in Seir and the Moabites living in Ar allowed us, until we cross over the Jordan into the country that the Lord our God is giving to us.”
30 Mas Sehon, rei de Hesbon, não nos quis deixar passar por si, porquanto o Senhor teu Deus endurecera o seu espírito, e fizera obstinado o seu coração, por to dar na tua mão, como neste dia se vê.
But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through, for the Lord your God gave him a stubborn spirit and an obstinate attitude, so the Lord could hand him over to you, as he has now done.
31 E o Senhor me disse: eis aqui, tenho começado a dar-te Sehon, e a sua terra diante de ti: começa pois a possui-la, para que herdes a sua terra.
Then the Lord told me, “Look, I have started handing Sihon and his land over to you. Now you can begin to conquer and take over his land.”
32 E Sehon saiu-nos ao encontro, ele e todo o seu povo, à peleja, a Jahaz:
Sihon and his whole army came out to fight us at Jahaz.
33 E o Senhor nosso Deus no-lo deu diante de nós, e o ferimos a ele, e a seus filhos, e a todo o seu povo.
The Lord our God handed him over to us, and we killed him, his sons, and all his army.
34 E naquele tempo tomamos todas as suas cidades, e destruímos todas as cidades, homens, e mulheres e crianças: não deixamos a ninguém.
We also captured all his towns, and set apart for destruction the people of every town: men, women, and children. We didn't leave any survivors.
35 Somente tomamos em presa o gado para nós, e o despojo das cidades que tinhamos tomado.
All we took for ourselves was the livestock and plunder from the towns we'd captured.
36 Desde Aroer, que está à borda do ribeiro de Arnon, e a cidade que está junto ao ribeiro, até Gilead, nenhuma cidade houve que de nós escapasse: tudo isto o Senhor nosso Deus nos entregou diante de nós.
No town had walls too high for us to conquer—from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley, the town in the valley, all the way to Gilead. The Lord our God handed them all over to us.
37 Somente à terra dos filhos de Ammon não chegaste: nem a toda a borda do ribeiro de Jabbok, nem às cidades da montanha, nem a coisa alguma que nos proibira o Senhor nosso Deus.
But you didn't go anywhere near the country of the Ammonites—the area that borders the Jabbok River or the towns of the hill country, or any other place that the Lord our God had placed off limits.
