Daniel 4
1 Nabucodonozor rei: a todos os povos, nações, e línguas, que moram em toda a terra: Paz vos seja multiplicada.
King Nebuchadnezzar, To the people of every nation and language who dwell in all the earth: May your prosperity be multiplied.
2 Pareceu-me bem fazer notórios os sinais e maravilhas que Deus, o altíssimo, tem feito para comigo.
I am pleased to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.
3 Quão grandes são os seus sinais, e quão poderosas as suas maravilhas! o seu reino é um reino sempiterno, e o seu domínio de geração em geração.
How great are His signs, how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; His dominion endures from generation to generation.
4 Eu, Nabucodonozor, estava sossegado em minha casa, e florescente no meu palácio.
I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and flourishing in my palace.
5 Tive um sonho, que me espantou; e as imaginações na minha cama e as visões da minha cabeça me turbaram.
I had a dream, and it frightened me; while in my bed, the images and visions in my mind alarmed me.
6 Por mim pois se fez um decreto, para introduzir à minha presença todos os sábios de Babilônia, para que me fizessem saber a interpretação do sonho.
So I issued a decree that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret the dream for me.
7 Então entraram os magos, os astrólogos, os caldeus, e os adivinhadores, e eu contei o sonho diante deles; mas não me fizeram saber a sua interpretação.
When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, and they could not interpret it for me.
8 Porém por fim entrou na minha presença Daniel, cujo nome é Belteshazzar, segundo o nome do meu deus, e no qual há o espírito dos deuses santos; e eu contei o sonho diante dele:
But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream:
9 Belteshazzar, príncipe dos magos, pois eu sei que há em ti o espírito dos deuses santos, e nenhum segredo te é difícil; dize-me as visões do meu sonho que tive e a sua interpretação.
“O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation.
10 Eram pois as visões da minha cabeça, na minha cama: eu estava vendo, e eis uma árvore no meio da terra, cuja altura era grande;
In these visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this come to pass: There was a tree in the midst of the land, and its height was great.
11 Crescia esta árvore, e se fazia forte, de maneira que a sua altura chegava até ao céu; e foi vista até à extremidade de toda a terra.
The tree grew large and strong; its top reached the sky, and it was visible to the ends of the earth.
12 A sua folhagem era formosa, e o seu fruto muito, e havia nela sustento para todos: debaixo dela as bestas do campo achavam sombra, e as aves do céu faziam morada nos seus ramos, e toda a carne se mantinha dela.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
13 Estava vendo nas visões da minha cabeça, na minha cama; e eis que um vigia, um santo, descia do céu,
As I lay on my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.
14 Clamando fortemente, e dizendo assim: cortai a árvore, e decotai-lhe os ramos, sacudi as suas folhas, espalhai o seu fruto; afugentem-se as bestas de debaixo dela, e as aves dos seus ramos.
He called out in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.
15 Porém o tronco com as suas raízes deixai na terra, e com atadura de ferro e de bronze, na erva do campo: e seja molhado do orvalho do céu, e a sua porção seja com as bestas na grama da terra:
But leave the stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven and graze with the beasts on the grass of the earth.
16 Seja mudado o seu coração, que não seja mais coração de homem, e lhe seja dado coração de besta; e passem sobre ele sete tempos
Let his mind be changed from that of a man, and let him be given the mind of a beast till seven times pass him by.
17 Esta sentença é por decreto dos vigiadores, e este mando por dito dos santos; a fim de que conheçam os viventes que o altíssimo domina sobre os reinos dos homens; e os dá a quem quer, e até ao mais baixo dos homens constitui sobre eles.
This decision is the decree of the watchers, the verdict declared by the holy ones, so that the living will know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes, setting over it the lowliest of men.’
18 Isto em sonho vi eu, rei Nabucodonozor: tu, pois, Belteshazzar, dize a interpretação: porque todos os sábios do meu reino não puderam fazer-me saber a sua interpretação; mas tu podes; pois há em ti o espírito dos deuses santos.
This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you are able, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
19 Então Daniel, cujo nome era Belteshazzar, esteve atônito quase uma hora, e os seus pensamentos o turbavam; falou pois o rei, e disse: Belteshazzar, não te espante o sonho, nem a sua interpretação. Respondeu Belteshazzar, e disse; Senhor meu: o sonho seja contra os que te tem ódio, e a sua interpretação aos teus inimigos.
For a time, Daniel, who was also known as Belteshazzar, was perplexed, and his thoughts alarmed him. So the king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation alarm you.” “My lord,” replied Belteshazzar, “may the dream apply to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your enemies!
20 A árvore que viste, que cresceu, e se fez forte, cuja altura chegava até ao céu, e que foi vista por toda a terra,
The tree you saw that grew large and strong, whose top reached the sky and was visible to all the earth,
21 E cujas folhas eram formosas, e o seu fruto muito, e em que para todos havia mantimento, debaixo da qual moravam as bestas do campo, e em cujos ramos habitavam as aves do céu;
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
22 Esta árvore és tu, ó rei, que cresceste, e te fizeste forte; e a tua grandeza cresceu, e chegou até ao céu, e o teu domínio até à extremidade da terra
you, O king, are that tree! For you have become great and strong; your greatness has grown to reach the sky, and your dominion extends to the ends of the earth.
23 E quanto ao que viu o rei, um vigia, um santo, que descia do céu, e disse: cortai a árvore, e a destruí, porém o tronco com as suas raízes deixai na terra, e com atadura de ferro e de bronze, na erva do campo; e seja molhado do orvalho do céu, e a sua porção seja com as bestas do campo, até que passem sobre ele sete tempos:
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
24 Esta é a interpretação, ó rei: e este é o decreto do altíssimo, que virá sobre o rei, meu senhor,
This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree that the Most High has issued against my lord the king:
25 A saber: lançar-te-ão de entre os homens, e a tua morada será com as bestas do campo, e te farão comer erva como os bois, e serás molhado do orvalho do céu; e passar-se-ão sete tempos por cima de ti: até que conheças que o altíssimo domina sobre o reino dos homens, e os dá a quem quer
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
26 E quanto ao que foi dito, que deixassem o tronco com as raízes da árvore, o teu reino te ficará firme, depois que tiveres conhecido que o céu reina.
As for the command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
27 Portanto, ó rei, aceita o meu conselho, e desfaze os teus pecados pela justiça, e as tuas iniquidades usando de misericórdia com os pobres, se porventura houver prolongação da tua paz
Therefore, may my advice be pleasing to you, O king. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”
28 Todas estas coisas vieram sobre o rei Nabucodonozor.
All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.
29 Porque ao cabo de doze meses, quando andava passeando sobre o palácio real de Babilônia,
Twelve months later, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,
30 Falou o rei, e disse: Porventura não é esta a grande Babilônia que eu edifiquei para a casa real, com a força da minha potência, e para glória da minha magnificência?
the king exclaimed, “Is this not Babylon the Great, which I myself have built by the might of my power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”
31 Ainda estava a palavra na boca do rei, quando caiu uma voz do céu: A ti se diz, ó rei Nabucodonozor: Passou de ti o reino.
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “It is decreed to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom has departed from you.
32 E te lançarão dentre os homens, e a tua morada será com as bestas do campo: far-te-ão comer erva como os bois, e passar-se-ão sete tempos sobre ti, até que conheças que o altíssimo domina sobre os reinos dos homens, e os dá a quem quer.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
33 Na mesma hora se cumpriu a palavra sobre Nabucodonozor, e foi lançado dentre os homens, e comia erva como os bois, e o seu corpo foi molhado do orvalho do céu, até que lhe cresceu pelo, como as penas da águia, e as suas unhas como as das aves.
At that moment the sentence against Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from mankind. He ate grass like an ox, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.
34 Mas ao fim daqueles dias eu, Nabucodonozor, levantei os meus olhos ao céu, e tornou-me a vir o meu entendimento, e eu bendisse o altíssimo, e louvei e glorifiquei ao que vive para sempre, cujo domínio é um domínio sempiterno, e cujo reino é de geração em geração.
But at the end of those days I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and glorified Him who lives forever: “For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35 E todos os moradores da terra são reputados em nada, e segundo a sua vontade faz com o exército do céu e os moradores da terra: não há quem possa estorvar a sua mão, e lhe diga, Que fazes?
All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
36 No mesmo tempo me tornou a vir o meu entendimento, e para a dignidade do meu reino tornou-me a vir a minha magestade e o meu resplandor; e me buscaram os meus capitães e os meus grandes; e fui restabelecido no meu reino, e se me acrescentou uma glória maior do que nunca.
At the same time my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne, and surpassing greatness was added to me.
37 Agora pois eu, Nabucodonozor, louvo, e exalço, e glorifico ao rei do céu; porque todas as suas obras são verdade, e os seus caminhos juízo, e pode humilhar aos que andam na soberba.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all His works are true and all His ways are just. And He is able to humble those who walk in pride.
