Amós 8
1 O Senhor Jehovah assim me mostrou: e eis aqui um cesto de frutos do verão.
This is what the Lord GOD showed me: I saw a basket of summer fruit.
2 E disse: Que vês, Amós? E eu disse: Um cesto de frutos do verão. Então o Senhor me disse: Tem vindo o fim sobre o meu povo Israel; daqui por diante nunca mais passarei por ele.
“Amos, what do you see?” He asked. “A basket of summer fruit,” I replied. So the LORD said to me, “The end has come for My people Israel; I will no longer spare them.”
3 Mas os cânticos do templo serão ouvidos naquele dia, diz o Senhor Jehovah: multiplicar-se-ão os cadáveres, em todos os lugares, serão lançados fora em silêncio.
“In that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “the songs of the temple will turn to wailing. Many will be the corpses, strewn in silence everywhere!”
4 Ouvi isto, vós que anelais o abatimento do necessitado; e isto para destruirdes os miseráveis da terra:
Hear this, you who trample the needy, who do away with the poor of the land,
5 Dizendo: Quando passará a lua nova, para vendermos o grão? e o sábado, para abrirmos os celeiros de trigo? diminuindo o epha, e aumentando o siclo, e falsificando as balanças enganosas;
asking, “When will the New Moon be over, that we may sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, that we may market wheat? Let us reduce the ephah and increase the shekel; let us cheat with dishonest scales.
6 Para comprarmos os pobres por dinheiro, e os necessitados por um par de sapatos? então venderemos as cascas do trigo.
Let us buy the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the chaff with the wheat!”
7 Jurou o Senhor pela glória de Jacob: Eu me não esquecerei de todas as suas obras para sempre.
The LORD has sworn by the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget any of their deeds.
8 Por causa disto não se comoveria a terra? e não choraria todo aquele que habita nela? certamente levantar-se-a toda como um rio, e será arrojada, e será fundida como pelo rio do Egito.
Will not the land quake for this, and all its dwellers mourn? All of it will swell like the Nile; it will surge and then subside like the Nile in Egypt.
9 E sucederá que, naquele dia, diz o Senhor, farei que o sol se ponha ao meio dia, e a terra se entenebreça no dia da luz.
And in that day, declares the Lord GOD, I will make the sun go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the daytime.
10 E tornarei as vossas festas em luto, e todos os vossos cânticos em lamentações, e farei pôr saco sobre todos os lombos, e calva sobre toda a cabeça; e farei que isso seja como luto do filho único, e o seu fim como dia de amarguras.
I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation. I will cause everyone to wear sackcloth and every head to be shaved. I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son, and its outcome like a bitter day.
11 Eis que veem dias, diz o Senhor Jehovah, em que enviarei fome sobre a terra, não fome de pão, nem sede de água, mas de ouvir as palavras do Senhor.
Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
12 E irão vagabundos de um mar até outro mar, e do norte até ao oriente: correrão por toda a parte, buscando a palavra do Senhor, mas não a acharão.
People will stagger from sea to sea and roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
13 Naquele dia as virgens formosas e os mancebos desmaiarão à sede.
In that day the lovely young women— the young men as well— will faint from thirst.
14 Os que juram pelo delito de Samaria, e dizem: Vive o teu deus, ó Dan, e: Vive o caminho de Berseba; e cairão, e não se levantarão mais.
Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
