1 Timóteo 5
1 Não repreendas asperamente os velhos, mas admoesta-os como a pais: aos mancebos como a irmãos.
Do not rebuke an elderly man, but entreat him as a father; the younger men, as brothers:
2 Às velhas, como a mães, às moças, como a irmãs, em toda a pureza.
the elder women, as mothers; the younger women, as sisters, with all purity.
3 Honra as viúvas que verdadeiramente são viúvas.
Honor widows that are widows indeed.
4 Mas, se alguma viúva tiver filhos, ou netos, aprendam primeiro a exercer piedade para com a sua própria família, e a recompensar a seus pais; porque isto é bom e agradável diante de Deus.
But if any widow has children or grand-children, let them learn first to be dutiful to their own family, and to requite their parents; for that is good and acceptable in the sight of God.
5 Ora a que é verdadeiramente viúva e desamparada espera em Deus, e persevera de noite e de dia em rogos e orações;
But she that is a widow indeed, and left alone, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 Mas a que vive em deleites, vivendo está morta.
But she that lives voluptuously, is dead while she lives.
7 Manda, pois, estas coisas, para que sejam irrepreensíveis.
These things also give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8 Porém, se alguém não tem cuidado dos seus, e principalmente dos da sua família, negou a fé, e é pior do que o infiel.
And if any one provides not for his own, and especially for those of his own house hold, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
9 Nunca se eleja viúva de menos de sessenta anos, e só a que tenha sido mulher de um marido;
Let a widow be put on the list, if she is not under sixty years, having been the wife of one man,
10 Tendo testemunho de boas obras: se criou os filhos, se exercitou hospitalidade, se lavou os pés aos santos, se socorreu os aflitos, se seguiu toda a boa obra.
having a good reputation for good works; if she has borne children, if she has entertained strangers, if she has washed the saints feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.
11 Mas não admitas as viúvas moças, porque, havendo sido lascivas contra Cristo, querem casar-se;
But the younger widows reject: for when they become wanton against the Christ, they desire to marry,
12 Tendo já a sua condenação por haverem aniquilado a primeira fé
incurring condemnation, because they have set aside their former obligation.
13 E, além disto, também aprendem a andar ociosas de casa em casa; e não só ociosas, mas também paroleiras e curiosas, falando o que não convém.
At the same time, also, they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also, and busybodies, speaking things which are not proper.
14 Quero pois que as que são moças se casem, gerem filhos, governem a casa, e não dêem ocasião alguma ao adversário de maldizer.
I will, therefore, that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, and thus give no occasion to the adversaries to speak reproachfully.
15 Porque já algumas se desviaram, indo após Satanás.
For some have already turned aside after Satan.
16 Se algum crente ou alguma crente tem viúvas, socorra-as, e não se sobrecarregue a igreja, para que possa sustentar as que deveras são viúvas.
If any believing man or woman has widows, let him or her relieve them, and let not the church be burdened, that it may relieve those who are widows indeed.
17 Os anciãos que governam bem sejam estimados por dignos de duplicada honra, principalmente os que trabalham na palavra e na doutrina.
Let the elders who rule well, be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in word and teaching.
18 Porque diz a escritura: Não ligarás a boca ao boi que debulha. E: Digno é o obreiro do seu salário.
For the scripture says: You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain; and, The laborer is worthy of his hire.
19 Não aceites acusação contra o ancião, senão com duas ou três testemunhas.
Receive not an accusation against an old man, unless before two or three witnesses.
20 Aos que pecarem, repreende-os na presença de todos, para que também os outros tenham temor.
Those who sin rebuke before all, that the rest also may fear.
21 Conjuro-te diante de Deus, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, e dos anjos eleitos, que sem prejuízo algum guardes estas coisas, nada fazendo por parcialidade.
I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, and that you do nothing by partiality.
22 A ninguém imponhas apressadamente as mãos, nem participes dos pecados alheios: conserva-te a ti mesmo puro.
Lay hands hastily on no man, nor be partaker of other men’s sins: keep yourself pure.
23 Não bebas mais água somente, mas usa também de um pouco de vinho; por causa do teu estômago e das tuas frequentes enfermidades.
Drink water no longer, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake, and your frequent infirmities.
24 Os pecados de alguns homens são manifestos antes, e se adiantam para a sua condenação; e em alguns manifestam-se ainda depois.
Some men’s sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment. Some persons, however, they follow after.
25 Assim mesmo também as suas boas obras são manifestas, e as que são doutra maneira não podem ocultar-se.
Likewise, also, the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and those which are otherwise can not be concealed.
