1 Samuel 22

1 Então David se retirou dali, e escapou para a caverna de Adullam: e ouviram-no seus irmãos e toda a casa de seu pai, e desceram ali para ele.

David escaped and went to the cave of Adullam. When they heard where he was his brothers and all the rest of his family went and joined him there.

2 E ajuntou-se a ele todo o homem que se achava em aperto, e todo o homem endividado, e todo o homem de espírito desgostoso, e ele se fez chefe deles: e eram com ele uns quatrocentos homens.

Everyone who was in trouble or in debt or resentful also came to him and he became their leader. He had around four hundred men with him.

3 E foi-se David dali a Mispeh dos moabitas, e disse ao rei dos moabitas: Deixa estar meu pai e minha mãe convosco, até que saiba o que Deus há de fazer de mim.

Then David went to Mizpeh in the country of Moab. He asked the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother come and stay with you until I find out what God is planning for me.”

4 E trouxe-os perante o rei dos moabitas, e ficaram com ele todos os dias que David esteve no lugar forte.

So he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with the king all the time David lived in the stronghold.

5 Porém o profeta Gad disse a David: Não fiques naquele lugar forte; vai, e entra na terra de Judá. Então David se foi, e veio para o bosque de Chereth.

But then the prophet Gad told David, “Do not stay in the stronghold. Go back to the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

6 E ouviu Saul que já se sabia de David e dos homens que estavam com ele: e estava Saul em Gibeah, debaixo dum arvoredo, em Rama, e tinha na mão a sua lança, e todos os seus criados estavam com ele.

Saul found out that David had returned and where he was. Saul was sitting under the tamarisk tree on the hill in Gibeah. He had his spear in his hand, with all his officials surrounding him.

7 Então disse Saul a todos os seus criados que estavam com ele: Ouvi, peço-vos, filhos de Benjamin, dar-vos-á também o filho de Jessé, a todos vós, terras e vinhas, e far-vos-á a todos chefes de milhares e chefes de centenas?

Saul said to them, “Listen to me, you men of Benjamin! Is the son of Jesse going to give all of you fields and vineyards and make you commanders and officers in the army?

8 Para que todos vos tenhais conspirado contra mim, e ninguém há que me dê aviso de que meu filho tem feito aliança com o filho de Jessé, e nenhum dentre vós há que se doa de mim, e mo participe, pois meu filho tem contra mim sublevado a meu servo, para me armar ciladas, como se vê neste dia.

Is that why you've all plotted against me? Not a single one of you told me that my own son had made an agreement with Jesse's son. Not a single one of you has shown you cared about me, or explained to me that my son has encouraged him to try and kill me, which is what he's doing right now!”

9 Então respondeu Doeg, o idumeu, que também estava com os criados de Saul, e disse: Ao filho de Jessé vi vir a Nob, a Achimelech, filho de Ahitub,

Doeg the Edomite, who was standing there with Saul's officers, spoke up, saying, “I saw the son of Jesse visit Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, at Nob.

10 O qual consultou por ele ao Senhor, e lhe deu mantimento, e lhe deu também a espada de Goliath, o philisteu.

Ahimelech asked advice from the Lord for him and gave him food. He gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine as well.”

11 Então o rei mandou chamar a Achimelech, sacerdote, filho de Ahitub, e a toda a casa de seu pai, os sacerdotes que estavam em Nob; e todos eles vieram ao rei.

The king sent a message to summon Ahimelech the priest, son of Ahitub, and all his family, who were priests at Nob. They all came to the king.

12 E disse Saul: Ouve, peço-te, filho de Ahitub. E ele disse: Eis-me aqui, senhor meu.

“Now you listen, son of Ahitub,” the king shouted. “What is it, my lord?” Ahimelech asked.

13 Então lhe disse Saul: Porque conspirastes contra mim, tu e o filho de Jessé? pois deste-lhe pão e espada, e consultaste por ele a Deus, para que se levantasse contra mim a armar-me ciladas, como se vê neste dia

“Why have you and the son of Jesse plotted against me? You gave him bread and a sword, and asked advice from God for him so that he could rebel against me and try and kill me, which is what he's doing right now!”

14 E respondeu Achimelech ao rei, e disse: E quem, entre todos os teus criados, há tão fiel como David, o genro do rei, pronto na sua obediência, e honrado na tua casa?

“Who of all your officers is as trustworthy as David, the king's son-in-law? He is in charge of your bodyguard, and highly respected in your family!” Ahimelech responded.

15 Comecei, porventura, hoje a consultar por ele a Deus? longe de mim tal! não impute o rei coisa nenhuma a seu servo, nem a toda a casa de meu pai, pois o teu servo não soube nada de tudo isso, nem muito nem pouco.

“And was that day the first time he asked advice from God on his behalf? Of course not! The king should not accuse me your servant or any of my family, for I didn't know anything about any of this.”

16 Porém o rei disse: Achimelech, morrerás certamente, tu e toda a casa de teu pai.

“You're going to die for this!” the king declared. “You and all your family!”

17 E disse o rei aos da sua guarda que estavam com ele: virai-vos, e matai os sacerdotes do Senhor, porque também a sua mão é com David, e porque souberam que fugiu e não mo fizeram saber. Porém os criados do rei não quizeram estender as suas mãos para arremeter contra os sacerdotes do Senhor.

Then the king turned to his bodyguards standing there and ordered them, “Kill these priests of the Lord, because they're on David's side! They knew he was a fugitive and yet they didn't tell me!” But the king's guards refused to attack the priests of the Lord.

18 Então disse o rei a Doeg: Vira-te tu, e arremete contra os sacerdotes. Então se virou Doeg, o idumeu, e arremeteu contra os sacerdotes, e matou naquele dia oitenta e cinco homens que vestiam éfode de linho.

So the king ordered Doeg, “You kill the priests!” Doeg the Edomite attacked and killed the priests, killing eighty-five men wearing the priestly ephod.

19 Também a Nob, cidade destes sacerdotes, passou a fio de espada, desde o homem até à mulher, desde os meninos até aos de mama, e até os bois, jumentos e ovelhas passou a fio de espada.

Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and slaughtered its men and women, children and infants, cattle, donkeys, and sheep.

20 Porém escapou um dos filhos de Achimelech, filho de Ahitub, cujo nome era Abiathar, o qual fugiu atráz de David.

But one of the sons of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, managed to escape. His name was Abiathar, and he ran away and joined David.

21 E Abiathar anunciou a David que Saul tinha matado os sacerdotes do Senhor.

He told David that Saul had killed the priests of the Lord.

22 Então David disse a Abiathar: Bem sabia eu naquele dia que, estando ali Doeg, o idumeu, não deixaria de o denunciar a Saul: eu dei ocasião contra todas as almas da casa de teu pai.

David told Abiathar, “I knew that day when Doeg the Edomite was there that he was going to tell Saul about it. It's my fault that all your family have died.

23 Fica comigo, não temas, porque quem procurar a minha morte também procurará a tua, pois estarás salvo comigo.

But you can stay with me and you don't need to be afraid, because the man who wants to kill you wants to kill me too. I'll take good care of you.”
