1 Pedro 3

1 Semelhantemente vós, mulheres, sede sujeitas aos vossos próprios maridos; para que também, se alguns não obedecem à palavra, pelo trato das mulheres sejam ganhos sem palavra;

In like manner, the wives, be ye subject to your own husbands, that even if certain are disobedient to the word, through the conversation of the wives, without the word, they may be won,

2 Considerando o vosso casto trato em temor.

having beheld your pure behaviour in fear,

3 O enfeite delas não seja o exterior, no encrespamento dos cabelos, ou atavio de ouro, ou compostura de vestidos;

whose adorning — let it not be that which is outward, of plaiting of hair, and of putting around of things of gold, or of putting on of garments,

4 Mas o homem encoberto no coração; no incorruptível de um espírito manso e quieto, que é precioso diante de Deus.

but — the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible thing of the meek and quiet spirit, which is, before God, of great price,

5 Porque assim se enfeitavam também antigamente as santas mulheres que esperavam em Deus, e estavam sujeitas aos seus próprios maridos;

for thus once also the holy women who did hope on God, were adorning themselves, being subject to their own husbands,

6 Como Sara obedecia a Abraão, chamando-lhe senhor; da qual vós sois feitas filhas, fazendo o bem, e não temendo nenhum espanto.

as Sarah was obedient to Abraham, calling him 'sir,' of whom ye did become daughters, doing good, and not fearing any terror.

7 Igualmente vós, maridos, coabitai com elas com entendimento, dando honra à mulher, como a vaso mais fraco; como aqueles que juntamente com elas sois herdeiros da graça da vida; para que não sejam impedidas as vossas orações.

The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with [them], according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel — to the wife — imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

8 E, finalmente, sede todos de um mesmo sentimento, compassivos, amando os irmãos, entranhavelmente misericordiosos e afáveis.

And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,

9 Não tornando mal por mal, ou injúria por injúria; antes, pelo contrário, bendizendo: sabendo que para isto sois chamados, para que por herança alcanceis a benção.

not giving back evil for evil, or railing for railing, and on the contrary, blessing, having known that to this ye were called, that a blessing ye may inherit;

10 Porque quem quer amar a vida, e ver os dias bons, refreie a sua língua do mal, e os seus lábios que não falem engano.

for 'he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips — not to speak guile;

11 Aparte-se do mal, e faça o bem; busque a paz, e siga-a.

let him turn aside from evil, and do good, let him seek peace and pursue it;

12 Porque os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos, e os seus ouvidos atentos às suas orações; mas o rosto do Senhor é contra os que fazem males.

because the eyes of the Lord [are] upon the righteous, and His ears — to their supplication, and the face of the Lord [is] upon those doing evil;'

13 E qual é aquele que vos fará mal, se fordes imitadores do bem?

and who [is] he who will be doing you evil, if of Him who is good ye may become imitators?

14 Mas também, se padecerdes por amor da justiça, sois bem-aventurados. E não temais com medo deles, nem vos turbeis;

but if ye also should suffer because of righteousness, happy [are ye]! and of their fear be not afraid, nor be troubled,

15 Antes santificai o Senhor Deus em vossos corações; e estai sempre preparados para responder com mansidão e temor a qualquer que vos pedir a razão da esperança que há em vós:

and the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And [be] ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that [is] in you, with meekness and fear;

16 Tendo uma boa consciência, para que, em o que falam mal de vós, como de malfeitores, fiquem confundidos os que blasfemam do vosso bom trato em Cristo.

having a good conscience, that in that in which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who are traducing your good behaviour in Christ;

17 Porque melhor é que padeçais fazendo bem (se a vontade de Deus assim o quer), do que fazendo mal.

for [it is] better doing good, if the will of God will it, to suffer, than doing evil;

18 Porque também Cristo padeceu uma vez pelos pecados, o justo pelos injustos, para levar-nos a Deus; mortificado, na verdade, na carne, porém vivificado pelo espírito;

because also Christ once for sin did suffer — righteous for unrighteous — that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,

19 No qual também foi, e pregou aos espíritos em prisão;

in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,

20 Os quais antigamente foram rebeldes, quando a longanimidade de Deus esperava nos dias de Noé, aparelhando-se a arca; na qual poucas (isto é oito) almas se salvaram pela água;

who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah — an ark being preparing — in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;

21 Que também, como uma verdadeira figura, agora nos salva, o batismo não o do despojamento da imundícia do corpo, mas o da indagação de uma boa consciência para com Deus, pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo;

also to which an antitype doth now save us — baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God, ) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

22 O qual está à dextra de Deus, tendo subido ao céu: havendo-se-lhe sujeitado os anjos, e as autoridades, e as potências.

who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven — messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.
