Tito 1
1 Paulo, servo de Deus, e apostolo de Jesus Christo, segundo a fé dos eleitos de Deus, e o conhecimento da verdade, que é segundo a piedade,
To Titus, my true son in a common faith, from Paul, a slave of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and to the knowledge of the truth which goes with piety;
2 Em esperança da vida eterna, a qual Deus, que não pode mentir, prometteu antes dos tempos dos seculos; (aiōnios g166)
I write in hope of life eternal which God who never lies, promised before times eternal, (aiōnios g166)
3 Mas a seu tempo manifestou a sua palavra pela prégação que me é confiada segundo o mandamento de Deus, nosso Salvador;
but manifested in his own time; that word of his in proclaiming which I have been entrusted by command of God our Saviour.
4 A Tito, verdadeiro filho, segundo a fé commum, graça, misericordia, e paz da parte de Deus Pae, e da do Senhor Jesus Christo, nosso Salvador.
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
5 Por esta causa te deixei em Creta, para que pozesses em boa ordem as coisas que ainda restam, e de cidade em cidade estabelecesses anciãos, como já te mandei:
I left you in Crete for this reason, that you might set right the things left unfinished, and appoint presbyters in every city as I had instructed you;
6 Aquelle que fôr irreprehensivel, marido de uma mulher, que tenha filhos fieis, que não possam ser accusados de dissolução ou desobedientes.
men who are blameless, the husband of one wife, with believing children who are not accused of riot or insubordination.
7 Porque convém que o bispo seja irreprehensivel, como dispenseiro da casa de Deus, não soberbo, nem iracundo, nem violento, nem espancador, nem cubiçoso de torpe ganancia;
For indeed a presiding officer, as God’s steward, ought to be blameless, not self-willed or quick-tempered, not a drunkard or violent, or greedy of filthy lucre;
8 Mas dado á hospitalidade, amante dos bons, moderado, justo, sancto, continente;
but he must be hospitable, a lover of the good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled.
9 Retendo firme a fiel palavra, que é conforme a doutrina, para que seja poderoso, assim para admoestar com a sã doutrina, como para convencer aos contradizentes.
He must hold to the faithful word according to the teaching, so that he may be able both to encourage by sound teaching, and to confute our opponents.
10 Porque tambem ha muitos desordenados, falladores de vaidades, e enganadores, principalmente os da circumcisão,
For there are many individuals who are unruly, empty talkers and deceivers, particularly those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped;
11 Aos quaes convem tapar a bocca; os que transtornam casas inteiras ensinando o que não convém, por torpe ganancia.
for they upset whole households and, for filthy lucre’s sake, teach what they ought not to teach.
12 Um d'elles, seu proprio propheta, disse: Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, bestas ruins, ventres preguiçosos.
By one of their own number, by a prophet of their own, it has been said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons."
13 Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto reprehende-os severamente, para que sejam sãos na fé:
This testimony is true. So rebuke them sharply,
14 Não dando ouvidos ás fabulas judaicas, e aos mandamentos de homens que se desviam da verdade.
so as to make them sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
15 Todas as coisas são puras para os puros, mas nada é puro para os contaminados e infieis: antes o seu entendimento e consciencia estão contaminados.
All things are pure to the pure; but to the contaminated and the faithless nothing is pure, nay, their very minds and consciences are tainted.
16 Confessam que conhecem a Deus, porém o negam com as obras, sendo abominaveis, e desobedientes, e reprovados para toda a boa obra.
They profess to know God, but by their deeds they disown him; in that they are detestable, disobedient, and reprobate for good work of any sort.
