Salmos 49
1 Ouvi isto, vós todos os povos; inclinae os ouvidos, todos os moradores do mundo,
“For the leader of the music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.” Hear this, all ye nations; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world;
2 Tanto baixos como altos, tanto ricos como pobres.
Both high and low, rich and poor alike!
3 A minha bocca fallará de sabedoria; e a meditação do meu coração será de entendimento.
My mouth shall speak wisdom, And the meditation of my mind shall be understanding.
4 Inclinarei os meus ouvidos a uma parabola: declararei o meu enigma na harpa.
I will incline mine ear to a poem; I will utter my song upon the harp.
5 Porque temerei eu nos dias maus, quando me cercar a iniquidade dos que me armam ciladas?
Why should I fear in the days of adversity, When the iniquity of my adversaries encompasseth me;
6 Aquelles que confiam na sua fazenda, e se gloriam na multidão das suas riquezas,
They who trust in their riches, And glory in the greatness of their wealth?
7 Nenhum d'elles de modo algum pode remir a seu irmão, ou dar a Deus o resgate d'elle
No one can redeem his brother from death, Nor give a ransom for him to God,
8 (Pois a redempção da sua alma é carissima, e cessará para sempre);
That he should live to eternity, And not see the pit.
9 Para que viva para sempre, e não veja corrupção:
Too costly is the redemption of his life, And he giveth it up for ever.
10 Porque elle vê que os sabios morrem: perecem egualmente tanto o louco como o brutal, e deixam a outros os seus bens.
For he seeth that wise men die, As well as the foolish and the ignorant; They perish alike, And leave their wealth to others.
11 O seu pensamento interior é que as suas casas serão perpetuas e as suas habitações de geração em geração: dão ás suas terras os seus proprios nomes.
They imagine that their houses will endure for ever, And their dwelling-places from generation to generation: Men celebrate their names on the earth.
12 Todavia o homem que está na honra não permanece; antes é como os brutos que perecem.
Yet man, who is in honor, abideth not; He is like the beasts that perish.
13 Este caminho d'elles é a sua loucura; comtudo a sua posteridade approva as suas palavras (Selah)
Such is the way which is their confidence! And they who come after them approve their maxims. (Pause)
14 Como ovelhas são postos na sepultura; a morte se alimentará d'elles; e os rectos terão dominio sobre elles na manhã, e a sua formosura na sepultura se consumirá da sua morada. (Sheol h7585)
Like sheep they are cast into the underworld; Death shall feed upon them; And the upright shall soon trample upon them. Their form shall be consumed in the underworld, And they shall no more have a dwelling-place. (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my life from the underworld; Yea, he will take me under his care. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
16 Não temas, quando alguem se enriquece, quando a gloria da sua casa se engrandece.
Be not thou afraid, when one becometh rich; When the glory of his house is increased!
17 Porque, quando morrer, nada levará comsigo, nem a sua gloria o acompanhará.
For, when he dieth, he will carry nothing away; His glory will not descend after him.
18 Ainda que na sua vida elle bemdisse a sua alma, e os homens te louvam, quando fizeres bem a ti mesmo,
Though in his life he thought himself happy, —Though men praised thee, while thou wast in prosperity, —
19 Irá para a geração de seus paes; elles nunca verão a luz
Yet shalt thou go to the dwelling-place of thy fathers, Who never more shall see the light!
20 O homem que está na honra, e não tem entendimento, é similhante ás bestas que perecem.
The man who is in honor, but without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.
