Provérbios 4
1 Ouvi, filhos, a correcção do pae, e estae attentos para conhecerdes a prudencia.
Listen, sons, to a father's instruction, and pay attention so you will know what understanding is.
2 Pois dou-vos boa doutrina: não deixeis a minha lei.
I am giving you good instructions; do not forsake my teaching.
3 Porque eu era filho de meu pae: tenro, e unico diante de minha mãe.
When I was a son of my father, the tender and only child of my mother,
4 E elle ensinava-me, e dizia-me: Retenha as minhas palavras o teu coração: guarda os meus mandamentos, e vive.
he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast to my words; keep my commands and live.
5 Adquire a sabedoria, adquire a intelligencia, e não te esqueças nem te apartes das palavras da minha bocca.
Acquire wisdom and understanding; do not forget and do not reject the words of my mouth;
6 Não a desampares, e ella te guardará: ama-a, e ella se te conservará.
do not abandon wisdom and she will watch over you; love her and she will keep you safe.
7 O principio da sabedoria é adquirir a sabedoria: adquire pois a sabedoria, e com toda a tua possessão adquire o entendimento.
Wisdom is the most important thing, so acquire wisdom and spend all you own so you can get understanding.
8 Exalta-a, e ella te exaltará; e, abraçando-a tu, ella te honrará.
Cherish wisdom and she will exalt you; she will honor you when you embrace her.
9 Dará á tua cabeça um diadema de graça e uma corôa de gloria te entregará.
She will put a wreath of honor on your head; she will give you a beautiful crown.”
10 Ouve, filho meu, e acceita as minhas palavras, e se te multiplicarão os annos de vida.
Listen, my son, and pay attention to my words, and you will have many years in your life.
11 No caminho da sabedoria te ensinei, e pelas carreiras direitas te fiz andar.
I direct you in the way of wisdom; I lead you down straight paths.
12 Por ellas andando, não se estreitarão os teus passos; e, se correres, não tropeçarás.
When you walk, no one will stand in your way and if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Pega-te á correcção e não a largues: guarda-a, porque ella é a tua vida
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it, for it is your life.
14 Não entres na vereda dos impios, nem andes pelo caminho dos maus.
Do not follow the path of the wicked and do not go along the way of those who do evil.
15 Rejeita-o; não passes por elle: desvia-te d'elle e passa de largo.
Avoid it, do not go on it; turn away from it and go another way.
16 Pois não dormem, se não fizerem mal, e foge d'elles o somno se não fizerem tropeçar alguem.
For they cannot sleep until they do evil and they are robbed of sleep until they cause someone to stumble.
17 Porque comem o pão da impiedade, e bebem o vinho das violencias.
For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
18 Porém a vereda dos justos é como a luz resplandecente que vae adiante e alumia até ao dia perfeito.
But the path of righteous people is like the first light that grows brighter; it shines more and more until the fullness of the day comes.
19 O caminho dos impios é como a escuridão: nem sabem em que tropeçarão.
The way of the wicked is like darkness— they do not know what it is they stumble over.
20 Filho meu, attenta para as minhas palavras: ás minhas razões inclina o teu ouvido.
My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Não as deixes apartar-se dos teus olhos: guarda-as no meio do teu coração.
Do not let them turn away from your eyes; keep them in your heart.
22 Porque são vida para os que as acham, e saude para todo o seu corpo.
For my words are life to those who find them and health to their whole body.
23 Sobre tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração, porque d'elle procedem as saidas da vida.
Keep your heart safe and guard it with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.
24 Desvia de ti a tortuosidade da bocca, e alonga de ti a perversidade dos beiços.
Put crooked speech away from you and put corrupt talk far from you.
25 Os teus olhos olhem direitos, e as tuas palpebras olhem directamente diante de ti.
Let your eyes look straight ahead and fix your gaze straight before you.
26 Pondera a vereda de teus pés, e todos os teus caminhos sejam bem ordenados!
Make a level path for your foot; then all your ways will be secure.
27 Não declines nem para a direita nem para a esquerda: retira o teu pé do mal.
Do not turn aside to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
