Provérbios 25
1 Tambem estes são proverbios de Salomão, os quaes transcreveram os homens d'Ezequias, rei de Judah.
These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 A gloria de Deus é encobrir o negocio; mas a gloria dos reis esquadrinhar o negocio.
[It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings [is] to search out a matter.
3 Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não ha investigação.
The heaven for hight, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
4 Tira da prata as escorias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Tira o impio da presença do rei, e o seu throno se affirmará na justiça.
Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Não te glories na presença do rei, nem te ponhas no logar dos grandes;
Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:
7 Porque melhor é que te digam: Sobe aqui; do que seres humilhado diante do principe que já viram os teus olhos.
For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
8 Não saias depressa a litigar, para que depois ao fim não saibas que fazer, podendo-te confundir o teu proximo.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
9 Pleiteia o teu pleito com o teu proximo, e não descubras o segredo d'ontro:
Debate thy cause with thy neighbor [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:
10 Para que não te deshonre o que o ouvir, e a tua infamia se não aparte de ti.
Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
11 Como maçãs d'oiro em salvas de prata, assim é a palavra dita a seu tempo.
A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 Como pendentes d'oiro e gargantilhas d'oiro fino, assim é o sabio reprehensor para o ouvido ouvinte.
[As] an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 Como frieza de neve no tempo da sega, assim é o mensageiro fiel para com os que o enviam; porque recreia a alma de seu senhor.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Como nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, assim é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dadivas.
Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
15 Pela longanimidade se persuade o principe, e a lingua branda quebranta os ossos.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Achaste mel? come o que te basta; para que porventura não te fartes d'elle, e o venhas a vomitar.
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
17 Retira o teu pé da casa do teu proximo; para que se não enfade de ti, e te aborreça.
Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
18 Martello, e espada, e frecha aguda é o homem que diz falso testemunho contra o seu proximo.
A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Como dente quebrado, e pé desengonçado, é a confiança no desleal, no tempo da angustia.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 O que canta canções ao coração afflicto é como aquelle que despe o vestido n'um dia de frio, e como vinagre sobre salitre.
[As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre; so [is] he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Se o que te aborrece tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sêde, dá-lhe agua para beber;
If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
22 Porque assim brazas lhe amontoarás sobre a cabeça; e o Senhor t'o pagará.
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
23 O vento norte afugenta a chuva, e a face irada a lingua fingida.
The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 Melhor é morar n'um canto do terraço, do que com a mulher contenciosa, e isso em casa em que mais companhia haja.
[It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 Como agua fria á alma cançada, taes são as boas novas de terra remota.
[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
26 Como fonte turva, e manancial corrupto, assim é o justo que cae diante do impio.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a turbid fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 Comer muito mel não é bom; assim a pesquiza da propria gloria não é gloria.
[It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
28 Como a cidade derribada, sem muro, assim é o homem que não pode conter o seu espirito.
He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
