Provérbios 23
1 Quando te assentares a comer com um governador, attenta bem para o que se te poz diante,
When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;
2 E põe uma faca á tua garganta, se és homem de grande appetite.
put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.
3 Não cubices os seus manjares gostosos, porque são pão de mentiras.
Do not be desirous of his dainties, seeing they are deceitful food.
4 Não te cances para enriqueceres; dá de mão á tua prudencia.
Do not weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.
5 Porventura fitarás os teus olhos n'aquillo que não é nada? porque certamente se fará azas e voará ao céu como a aguia
Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
6 Não comas o pão d'aquelle que tem o olho maligno, nem cubices os seus manjares gostosos.
Do not eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and do not crave his delicacies:
7 Porque, como imaginou na sua alma, te dirá: Come e bebe; porém o seu coração não estará comtigo.
for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink." he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
8 Vomitarias o bocado que comeste, e perderias as tuas suaves palavras.
The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words.
9 Não falles aos ouvidos do tolo, porque desprezará a sabedoria das tuas palavras.
Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10 Não removas os limites antigos, nem entres nas herdades dos orphãos,
Do not move the ancient boundary stone. Do not encroach on the fields of the fatherless:
11 Porque o seu redemptor é o Forte, que pleiteará a sua causa contra ti.
for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.
12 Applica á disciplina o teu coração, e os teus ouvidos ás palavras do conhecimento.
Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.
13 Não retires a disciplina da creança, quando a fustigares com a vara; nem por isso morrerá.
Do not withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.
Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
15 Filho meu, se o teu coração fôr sabio, alegrar-se-ha o meu coração, sim, o meu proprio,
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine:
16 E exultarão os meus rins, quando os teus labios fallarem coisas rectas.
yes, my heart will rejoice, when your lips speak what is right.
17 Não inveje aos peccadores o teu coração; antes sê no temor do Senhor todo o dia
Do not let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear the LORD all the day long.
18 Porque devéras ha um bom fim: não será cortada a tua expectação.
For surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
19 Ouve tu, filho meu, e sê sabio, e dirige no caminho o teu coração.
Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path.
20 Não estejas entre os beberrões de vinho, nem entre os comilões de carne.
Do not be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:
21 Porque o beberrão e o comilão empobrecerão; e a somnolencia faz trazer os vestidos rotos.
for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
22 Ouve a teu pae, que te gerou, e não desprezes a tua mãe, quando vier a envelhecer.
Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
23 Compra a verdade, e não a vendas: a sabedoria, e a disciplina, e a prudencia.
Buy the truth, and do not sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24 Grandemente se regozijará o pae do justo, e o que gerar a um sabio se alegrará n'elle.
The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25 Alegrem-se teu pae e tua mãe, e regozije-se a que te gerou.
Let your father and your mother be glad. Let her who bore you rejoice.
26 Dá-me, filho meu, o teu coração, e os teus olhos observem os meus caminhos.
My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.
27 Porque cova profunda é a prostituta, e poço estreito a estranha.
For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28 Tambem ella, como um salteador, se põe a espreitar, e multiplica entre os homens os iniquos.
Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.
29 Para quem são os ais? para quem os pezares? para quem as pelejas? para quem as queixas? para quem as feridas sem causa? e para quem os olhos vermelhos?
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Para os que se demoram perto do vinho, para os que andam buscando bebida misturada.
Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31 Não olhes para o vinho quando se mostra vermelho, quando resplandece no copo e se escoa suavemente.
Do not look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.
32 No seu fim morderá como a cobra, e como o basilisco picará.
In the end, it bites like a serpent, and poisons like a viper.
33 Os teus olhos olharão para as mulheres estranhas, e o teu coração fallará perversidades.
Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34 E serás como o que dorme no meio do mar, e como o que dorme no topo do mastro.
Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35 E dirás: Espancaram-me, e não me doeu; maçaram-me, e não o senti; quando virei a despertar? ainda tornarei a buscal-a outra vez
"They hit me, and I was not hurt. They beat me, and I do not feel it. When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."
