Filipenses 1

1 Paulo e Timotheo, servos de Jesus Christo, a todos os sanctos em Christo Jesus, que estão em Philippos, com os bispos e diaconos:

Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, and to the elders and deacons.

2 Graça a vós, e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pae e da do Senhor Jesus Christo.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Dou graças ao meu Deus todas as vezes que me lembro de vós,

Upon every remembrance of you I am ever thanking my God for you all;

4 Fazendo sempre com gosto oração por vós em todas as minhas orações,

in every petition of mine in your behalf I am offering my prayer with joy for your fellowship in forwarding the gospel,

5 Pela vossa communicação no evangelho desde o primeiro dia até agora.

from the first day you heard it until now.

6 Tendo por certo isto mesmo, que aquelle que em vós começou a boa obra, a aperfeiçoará até ao dia de Jesus Christo;

Of this I am fully persuaded, that He who has begun a good work in you will go on completing it until the day of Jesus Christ.

7 Como tenho por justo sentir isto de vós todos, porquanto retenho em meu coração que todos vós fostes participantes da minha graça, tanto nas minhas prisões como na minha defeza e confirmação do evangelho.

It is but just that I should be thus mindful of you all, because I have you in my heart, and because in these fetters of mine and in my defense and confirmation of the gospel you are all my fellow partners in the privilege.

8 Porque Deus me é testemunha das muitas saudades que de todos vós tenho, em entranhavel affeição de Jesus Christo.

God is my witness how I yearn for you all in the tenderness of Christ Jesus.

9 E peço isto: que a vossa caridade abunde mais e mais em sciencia e em todo o conhecimento,

And it is my prayer that your love may abound yet more and more in intelligence and insight

10 Para que approveis as coisas excellentes, para que sejaes sinceros, e sem escandalo algum até ao dia de Christo;

for testing things that differ, so that you may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,

11 Cheios de fructos de justiça, que são por Jesus Christo, para gloria e louvor de Deus.

being filled with the fruit of righteousness through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.

12 E quero, irmãos, que saibaes que as coisas que me aconteceram contribuiram para maior proveito do evangelho.

I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has turned out rather to help than to the hindrance of the gospel.

13 De maneira que as minhas prisões em Christo foram manifestas em toda a guarda pretoriana, e em todos os demais logares;

Throughout the whole Praetorian guard and among all the others it has become plain that these chains of mine are for the sake of Christ;

14 E muitos dos irmãos no Senhor, tomando animo com as minhas prisões, ousam fallar a palavra mais confiadamente, sem temor.

and most of the brothers in the Lord, made confident in the Lord through my imprisonment, are much emboldened to speak God’s message with free and fearless confidence.

15 Verdade é que tambem alguns prégam a Christo por inveja e porfia, mas outros tambem de boamente.

Some indeed are preaching Christ out of envy and contentiousness, but others from good-will.

16 Uns por amor, sabendo que fui posto para defeza do evangelho.

but the former preach Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, because they think they are adding bitterness to my bonds.

17 Mas outros, na verdade, annunciam a Christo por contenção, não puramente, cuidando accrescentar afflicção ás minhas prisões.

These latter out of their love, because they know that I am set here for the defense of the gospel;

18 Mas que importa? comtanto que Christo seja annunciado em toda a maneira, ou com fingimento ou em verdade, n'isto me regozijo, e me regozijarei ainda.

What of it? In any case, whether in pretence or in honest truth, Christ is still preached, and in that I am rejoicing, yes, and will rejoice.

19 Porque sei que d'isto me resultará salvação, pela vossa oração e pelo soccorro do Espirito de Jesus Christo,

For I know that these things will turn out to my salvation through your prayers and a rich supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

20 Segundo a minha intensa expectação e esperança, de que em nada serei confundido; antes, com toda a confiança, Christo será, tanto agora como sempre, engrandecido no meu corpo, seja pela vida seja pela morte.

So it is my keen expectation and hope that I shall never feel ashamed, but that with fearless courage, now as hither to, Christ may be magnified in my body, whether by my life or by my death.

21 Porque para mim o viver é Christo, e o morrer é ganho.

For, with me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

22 Mas, se o viver na carne este é o fructo da minha obra, não sei então o que deva escolher.

But now, if life in the flesh, if this be the fruit of my toil - what to choose I do not know,

23 Porque de ambos os lados estou em aperto, tendo desejo de ser desatado, e estar com Christo, porque isto é ainda muito melhor.

but am in a quandary between the two. I am perplexed. I have a strong desire to break camp and to be with Christ, which is far better;

24 Mas julgo mais necessario, por amor de vós, ficar na carne.

but for your sakes it is more necessary that I should still live on in the body.

25 E confio n'isto, e sei que ficarei, e permanecerei com todos vós, para proveito vosso e gozo da fé.

And because I am convinced of this, I know that I shall live, and go on working side by side with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,

26 Para que a vossa gloria abunde por mim em Christo Jesus, pela minha nova ida a vós.

so that you may find me fresh cause of exultation in Christ Jesus, because of my presence among you once more.

27 Sómente vos porteis dignamente conforme o evangelho de Christo, para que, quer vá e vos veja, ou quer esteja ausente, ouça ácerca de vós, que estaes n'um mesmo espirito, combatendo juntamente com o mesmo animo pela fé do evangelho.

Only do lead lives worthy of the gospel of Christ; so that whether I come to see you or hear reports concerning you in my absence, I may know that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one soul, enlisted in a common struggle for the faith of the gospel,

28 E em nada vos espanteis dos que resistem, o que para elles, na verdade, é indicio de perdição, mas para vós de salvação, e isto de Deus.

and in no way terrorized by its enemies. For you fearlessness is a clear indication of coming ruin for them, but of salvation for you at the hands of God.

29 Porque a vós vos foi gratuitamente concedido, em relação a Christo, não sómente crêr n'elle, como tambem padecer por elle,

For it has been granted you in Christ’s behalf, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake,

30 Tendo o mesmo combate, que já em mim tendes visto, e agora ouvis de mim.

while you wage the same conflict which you once saw in me, and now hear that I maintain.
