Neemias 2
1 Succedeu pois no mez de nisan, no anno vigesimo do rei Artaxerxes, que estava posto vinho diante d'elle, e eu tomei o vinho, e o dei ao rei porém nunca estivera triste diante d'elle.
In the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, I picked up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad before in his presence.
2 E o rei me disse: Porque está triste o teu rosto, pois não estás doente? Não é isto senão tristeza de coração: então temi muito em grande maneira.
The king said to me, “Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart.” Then I was very much afraid.
3 E disse ao rei: Viva o rei para sempre! Como não estaria triste o meu rosto, estando a cidade, o logar dos sepulchros de meus paes, assolada, e tendo sido consumidas as suas portas a fogo?
I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”
4 E o rei me disse: Que me pedes agora? Então orei ao Deus dos céus,
Then the king said to me, “What is your request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.
5 E disse ao rei: Se é do agrado do rei, e se o teu servo é acceito em tua presença, peço-te que me envies a Judah, á cidade dos sepulchros de meus paes, para que eu a edifique.
I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may build it.”
6 Então o rei me disse, estando a rainha assentada junto a elle: Quanto durará a tua viagem, e quando voltarás? E aprouve ao rei enviar-me, apontando-lhe eu um certo tempo.
The king said to me (the queen was also sitting by him), “How long will your journey be? When will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time for him.
7 Disse mais ao rei: Se ao rei parece bem, dêem-se-me cartas para os governadores d'além do rio, para que me dêem passagem até que chegue a Judah.
Moreover I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah;
8 Como tambem uma carta para Asaph, guarda do jardim do rei, que me dê madeira para cobrir as portas do paço da casa, e para o muro da cidade, e para a casa em que eu houver de entrar. E o rei m'as deu, segundo a boa mão de Deus sobre mim.
and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.
9 Então vim aos governadores d'além do rio, e dei-lhes as cartas do rei: e o rei tinha enviado comigo chefes do exercito e cavalleiros.
Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
10 O que ouvindo Sanballat, o horonita, e Tobias, o servo ammonita, lhes desagradou com grande desagrado que alguem viesse a procurar o bem dos filhos d'Israel.
When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, because a man had come to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
11 E cheguei a Jerusalem, e estive ali tres dias.
So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
12 E de noite me levantei, eu e poucos homens comigo, e não declarei a ninguem o que o meu Deus me poz no coração para fazer em Jerusalem: e não havia comigo animal algum, senão aquelle em que estava montado.
I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. I didn’t tell anyone what my God put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. There wasn’t any animal with me except the animal that I rode on.
13 E de noite sahi pela porta do valle, e para a banda da fonte do dragão, e para a porta do monturo, e contemplei os muros de Jerusalem, que estavam fendidos, e as suas portas, que tinham sido consumidas pelo fogo.
I went out by night by the valley gate toward the jackal’s well, then to the dung gate; and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and its gates were consumed with fire.
14 E passei á porta da fonte, e ao viveiro do rei; e não havia logar por onde podesse passar a cavalgadura debaixo de mim.
Then I went on to the spring gate and to the king’s pool, but there was no place for the animal that was under me to pass.
15 Então de noite subi pelo ribeiro, e contemplei o muro: e voltei, e entrei pela porta do valle, e assim voltei.
Then I went up in the night by the brook and inspected the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned.
16 E não souberam os magistrados aonde eu fui nem o que eu fazia: porque ainda nem aos judeos, nem aos nobres, nem aos magistrados, nem aos mais que faziam a obra, até então tinha declarado coisa alguma.
The rulers didn’t know where I went, or what I did. I had not as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest who did the work.
17 Então lhes disse: Bem vêdes vós a miseria em que estamos, que Jerusalem está assolada, e que as suas portas teem sido queimadas a fogo: vinde pois e reedifiquemos o muro de Jerusalem, e não sejamos mais em opprobrio.
Then I said to them, “You see the bad situation that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let’s build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we won’t be disgraced.”
18 Então lhes declarei como a mão do meu Deus me fôra favoravel, como tambem as palavras do rei, que elle me tinha dito: então disseram: Levantemo-nos, e edifiquemos. E esforçaram as suas mãos para o bem
I told them about the hand of my God which was good on me, and also about the king’s words that he had spoken to me. They said, “Let’s rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.
19 O que ouvindo Sanballat, o horonita, e Tobias, o servo ammonita, e Gesem, o arabio, zombaram de nós, e desprezaram-n'os, e disseram: Que é isto que fazeis? quereis rebellar-vos contra o rei?
But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite servant, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they ridiculed us and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?”
20 Então lhes respondi, e disse: O Deus dos céus é o que nos fará prosperar; e nós, seus servos, nos levantaremos e edificaremos: que vós não tendes parte, nem justiça, nem memoria em Jerusalem.
Then I answered them, and said to them, “The God of heaven will prosper us. Therefore we, his servants, will arise and build; but you have no portion, nor right, nor memorial in Jerusalem.”
