Naum 1
1 Carga de Ninive. Livro da visão de Nahum, o elcoshita.
The prophecy concerning Nineveh. The book of the prophecy of Nahum, the Elkoshite.
2 O Senhor é Deus zeloso e que toma vingança, o Senhor toma vingança e tem furor: o Senhor toma vingança contra os seus adversarios, e guarda a ira contra os seus inimigos.
Jehovah is a jealous God, and an avenger; Jehovah is an avenger, and full of wrath! Jehovah taketh vengeance on his adversaries, And keepeth indignation for his enemies!
3 O Senhor é tardio em irar-se, porém grande em força, e ao culpado não tem por innocente: o Senhor, cujo caminho é na tormenta, e na tempestade, e as nuvens são o pó dos seus pés.
Jehovah is slow to anger, but great in power; He will by no means clear the guilty; Jehovah cometh in the whirlwind and the storm, And the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 Elle reprehende ao mar, e o faz seccar, e esgota todos os rios: desfallecem Basan e Carmelo, e a flor do Libano se murchou.
He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, And drieth up all the rivers. Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, And the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5 Os montes tremem perante elle, e os outeiros se derretem; e a terra se levanta na sua presença; e o mundo, e todos os que n'elle habitam.
The mountains tremble before him, And the hills melt; The earth is moved at his presence, Yea, the world and all that dwell therein.
6 Quem parará diante do seu furor? e quem persistirá diante do ardor da sua ira? a sua colera se derramou como um fogo, e as rochas foram por elle derribadas.
Who can stand before his indignation, And who can abide before the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are cast down by him!
7 O Senhor é bom, elle serve de fortaleza no dia da angustia, e conhece aos que confiam n'elle.
Jehovah is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; He careth for them that trust in him;
8 E com uma inundação trasbordante acabará d'uma vez com o seu logar; e as trevas perseguirão os seus inimigos.
But with an overwhelming flood will he make a full end of her place, And darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 Que pensaes vós contra o Senhor? elle mesmo vos consumirá de todo: não se levantará por duas vezes a angustia.
What do ye meditate against Jehovah? He will make a full end; Not the second time shall the calamity come.
10 Porque elles se entrelaçam como os espinhos, e se embebedam como bebados; serão inteiramente consumidos como palha secca.
For while they are entangled like thorns, And like those that are drunk with wine, They shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11 De ti saiu um que pensou mal contra o Senhor, um conselheiro de Belial.
From thee hath gone forth one that devised evil against Jehovah; That meditated destruction.
12 Assim diz o Senhor: Por mais seguros que estejam, e por mais numerosos que sejam, ainda assim serão tosquiados, e elle passará: eu te affligi, porém não te affligirei mais.
Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be flourishing, and likewise many, Yet shall they be cut down, and pass away; I have afflicted thee, but I will afflict thee no more.
13 Mas agora quebrarei o seu jugo de sobre ti, e romperei os teus laços.
For now will I break his yoke from off thee, And will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14 Porém contra ti o Senhor deu ordem, que mais ninguem do teu nome seja semeado: da casa do teu deus exterminarei as imagens de esculptura e de fundição: ali te farei o teu sepulchro, porque és vil
And concerning thee hath Jehovah given command, That thy name shall no more be sown. From the house of thy god I will cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou hast become vile!
15 Eis que sobre os montes os pés do que traz as boas novas, do que annuncia a paz! celebra as tuas festas, ó Judah, cumpre os teus votos, porque o impio não tornará mais a passar por ti: elle é inteiramente exterminado.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, That publisheth peace! Keep, O Judah, thy feasts, perform thy vows! For no more shall the destroyer pass through thee; He is utterly consumed.
