Mateus 20
1 Porque o reino dos céus é similhante a um homem, pae de familia, que saiu de madrugada a assalariar trabalhadores para a sua vinha.
"For the Kingdom of the Heavens is like an employer who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard,
2 E, ajustando com os trabalhadores a um dinheiro por dia, mandou-os para a sua vinha.
and having made an agreement with them for a shilling a day, sent them into his vineyard.
3 E, saindo perto da hora terceira, viu outros que estavam ociosos na praça,
About nine o'clock he went out and saw others loitering in the market-place.
4 E disse-lhes: Ide vós tambem para a vinha, e dar-vos-hei o que fôr justo. E elles foram.
To these also he said, "'You also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.'
5 Saindo outra vez, perto da hora sexta e nona, fez o mesmo.
"So they went. Again about twelve, and about three o'clock, he went out and did the same.
6 E, saindo perto da hora undecima, encontrou outros que estavam ociosos, e diz-lhes: Porque estaes ociosos todo o dia?
And going out about five o'clock he found others loitering, and he asked them, "'Why have you been standing here all day long, doing nothing?'
7 Dizem-lhe elles: Porque ninguem nos assalariou. Diz-lhes elle: Ide vós tambem para a vinha, e recebereis o que fôr justo.
"'Because no one has hired us,' they replied. "'You also, go into the vineyard,' he said.
8 E, approximando-se a noite, diz o senhor da vinha ao seu mordomo: Chama os trabalhadores, e paga-lhes o jornal, começando desde os derradeiros até aos primeiros.
"When evening came, the master said to his steward, "'Call the men and pay them their wages. Begin with the last set and finish with the first.'
9 E, chegando os que tinham ido perto da hora undecima, receberam um dinheiro cada um.
"When those came who had begun at five o'clock, they received a shilling apiece;
10 Chegando, porém, os primeiros, cuidaram que haviam de receber mais; e tambem receberam um dinheiro cada um;
and when the first came, they expected to get more, but they also each got the shilling.
11 E, recebendo-o, murmuravam contra o pae de familia,
So when they had received it, they grumbled against the employer, saying,
12 Dizendo: Estes derradeiros trabalharam só uma hora, e tu os egualaste comnosco, que supportámos a fadiga e a calma do dia.
"'These who came last have done only one hour's work, and you have put them on a level with us who have worked the whole day and have borne the scorching heat.'
13 Elle, porém, respondendo, disse a um d'elles: Amigo, não te faço aggravo; não ajustaste tu comigo por um dinheiro?
"'My friend,' he answered to one of them, 'I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for a shilling?
14 Toma o que é teu, e retira-te; eu quero dar a este derradeiro tanto como a ti.
Take your money and go. I choose to give this last comer just as much as I give you.
15 Ou não me é licito fazer o que quizer do que é meu? Ou é mau o teu olho porque eu sou bom
Have I not a right to do what I choose with my own property? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
16 Assim os derradeiros serão primeiros, e os primeiros derradeiros; porque muitos são chamados, mas poucos escolhidos.
"So the last shall be first, and the first last."
17 E Jesus, subindo a Jerusalem, chamou de parte os seus doze discipulos, e no caminho disse-lhes:
Jesus was now going up to Jerusalem, and He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them,
18 Eis que subimos a Jerusalem, e o Filho do homem será entregue aos principes dos sacerdotes, e aos escribas, e condemnal-o-hão á morte.
"We are going up to Jerusalem, and there the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and Scribes. They will condemn Him to death,
19 E o entregarão aos gentios para que d'elle escarneçam, e o açoitem e crucifiquem; e ao terceiro dia resuscitará.
and hand Him over to the Gentiles to be made sport of and scourged and crucified; and on the third day He will be raised to life."
20 Então se approximou d'elle a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeo, com seus filhos, adorando-o, e pedindo-lhe alguma coisa.
Then the mother of the sons of Zabdi came to Him with her sons, and knelt before Him to make a request of Him.
21 E elle diz-lhe: Que queres? Diz-lhe ella: Dize que estes meus dois filhos se assentem, um á tua direita e outro á tua esquerda, no teu reino.
"What is it you desire?" He asked. "Command," she replied, "that these my two sons may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your Kingdom."
22 Jesus, porém, respondendo, disse: Não sabeis o que pedis; podeis vós beber o calix que eu hei de beber, e ser baptizados com o baptismo com que eu sou baptizado? Dizem-lhe elles: Podemos.
"None of you know what you are asking for," said Jesus; "can you drink out of the cup from which I am about to drink?" "We can," they replied.
23 E diz-lhes elle: Na verdade bebereis o meu calix e sereis baptizados com o baptismo com que eu sou baptizado, mas assentar-se á minha direita ou á minha esquerda não me pertence concedel-o, mas será para aquelles a quem meu Pae o tem preparado.
"You shall drink out of my cup," He said, "but a seat at my right hand or at my left it is not for me to allot, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."
24 E, quando os dez ouviram isto, indignaram-se contra os dois irmãos.
The other ten heard of this, and their indignation was aroused against the two brothers.
25 Então Jesus, chamando-os para junto de si, disse: Bem sabeis que os principes dos gentios os dominam, e que os grandes exercem auctoridade sobre elles.
But Jesus called them to Him, and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
26 Não será assim entre vós; mas todo aquelle que quizer entre vós fazer-se grande seja vosso servente;
Not so shall it be among you; but whoever desires to be great among you shall be your servant,
27 E qualquer que entre vós quizer ser o primeiro seja vosso servo;
and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant;
28 Assim como o Filho do homem não veiu para ser servido, mas a servir, e a dar a sua vida em resgate por muitos.
just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as the redemption-price for many."
29 E, saindo elles de Jericó, seguiu-o grande multidão,
As they were leaving Jericho, an immense crowd following Him,
30 E eis que dois cegos, assentados junto do caminho, ouvindo que Jesus passava, clamaram, dizendo: Senhor, Filho de David, tem misericordia de nós.
two blind men sitting by the roadside heard that it was Jesus who was passing by, and cried aloud, "Sir, Son of David, pity us."
31 E a multidão os reprehendia, para que se calassem; elles, porém, cada vez clamavam mais, dizendo: Senhor, Filho de David, tem misericordia de nós.
The people angrily tried to silence them, but they cried all the louder. "O Sir, Son of David, pity us," they said.
32 E Jesus, parando, chamou-os, e disse: Que quereis que vos faça?
So Jesus stood still and called to them. "What shall I do for you?" He asked.
33 Disseram-lhe elles: Senhor, que os nossos olhos sejam abertos.
"Sir, let our eyes be opened," they replied.
34 Então Jesus, movido de intima compaixão, tocou-lhe nos olhos, e logo viram; e o seguiram.
Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
