Juízes 19
1 Aconteceu tambem n'aquelles dias, em que não havia rei em Israel que, houve um homem levita, que peregrinando aos lados da montanha de Ephraim, tomou para si uma mulher concubina, de Beth-lehem de Judah.
In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a man, a Levite, living for a while in the most remote area of the hill country of Ephraim. He took for himself a woman, a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.
2 Porém a sua concubina fornicou contra elle, e foi-se d'elle para casa de seu pae, a Beth-lehem de Judah, e esteve ali alguns dias, a saber, quatro mezes.
But his concubine was unfaithful to him; she left him and went back to her father's house in Bethlehem of Judah. She stayed there for four months.
3 E seu marido se levantou, e partiu após d'ella, para lhe fallar conforme ao seu coração, e para tornar a trazel-a: e o seu moço e um par de jumentos iam com elle: e ella o levou a casa de seu pae, e, vendo-o o pae da moça, alegrou-se ao encontrar-se com elle
Then her husband got up and went after her in order to persuade her to come back. His servant was with him, and a pair of donkeys. She brought him into her father's house. When the girl's father saw him, he was glad.
4 E seu sogro, o pae da moça, o deteve, e ficou com elle tres dias: e comeram e beberam, e passaram ali a noite.
His father-in-law, the girl's father, persuaded him to stay for three days. They ate and drank, and they spent the night there.
5 E succedeu que ao quarto dia pela manhã madrugaram, e elle levantou-se para partir: então o pae da moça disse a seu genro: Conforta o teu coração com um bocado de pão, e depois partireis.
On the fourth day they got up early and he prepared to go, but the girl's father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen yourself with a bit of bread, then you may go.”
6 Assentaram-se pois, e comeram ambos juntos, e beberam; e disse o pae da moça ao homem: Peço-te que ainda esta noite queiras passal-a aqui, e alegre-se o teu coração.
So the two of them sat down to eat and drink together. Then the girl's father said, “Please be willing to spend the night and have a good time.”
7 Porém o homem levantou-se para partir: mas seu sogro o constrangeu a tornar a passar ali a noite.
When the Levite got up to leave, the father of the young woman urged him to stay, so he changed his plan and spent the night there again.
8 E, madrugando ao quinto dia pela manhã para partir, disse o pae da moça: Ora conforta o teu coração. E detiveram-se até já declinar o dia: e ambos juntos comeram.
On the fifth day he woke up early to leave, but the girl's father said, “Strengthen yourself, and wait until the afternoon.” So the two of them had a meal.
9 Então o homem levantou-se para partir, elle, e a sua concubina, e o seu moço: e disse-lhe seu sogro, o pae da moça: Eis que já o dia se abaixa, e já a tarde vem entrando, peço-te que aqui passes a noite; eis que já o dia vae acabando, passa aqui a noite, e que o teu coração se alegre; e ámanhã de madrugada levantae-vos a caminhar, e vae-te para a tua tenda.
When the Levite and his concubine and his servant rose up to depart, his father-in-law, the girl's father said to him, “See, now the day is advancing toward evening. Please stay another night, and have a good time. You can get up early tomorrow and go back home.”
10 Porém o homem não quiz ali passar a noite, mas levantou-se, e partiu, e veiu até defronte de Jebus (que é Jerusalem), e com elle o par de jumentos albardados, como tambem a sua concubina.
But the Levite was not willing to spend the night. He got up and left. He went toward Jebus (that is Jerusalem). He had a pair of saddled donkeys—and his concubine was with him.
11 Estando pois já perto de Jebus, e tendo-se já declinado muito o dia, disse o moço a seu senhor: Caminhae agora, e retiremo-nos a esta cidade dos jebuseos, e passemos ali a noite.
When they were near Jebus, the day was nearly over, and the servant said to his master, “Come, let us turn aside to the city of the Jebusites and spend the night in it.”
12 Porém disse-lhe seu senhor: Não nos retiraremos a nenhuma cidade estranha, que não seja dos filhos de Israel: mas passaremos até Gibeah.
His master said to him, “We will not turn aside into a city of foreigners who do not belong to the people of Israel. We will go on to Gibeah.”
13 Disse mais a seu moço; Caminha, e cheguemos a um d'aquelles logares, e passemos em Gibeah ou em Ramah.
The Levite said to his young man, “Come, let us go to one of those other places, and spend the night in Gibeah or Ramah.”
14 Passaram pois adiante, e caminharam, e o sol se lhes poz junto a Gibeah, que é cidade de Benjamin.
So they went on, and the sun set as they came near to Gibeah, in the territory of Benjamin.
15 E retiraram-se para lá, para entrarem a passar a noite em Gibeah; e, entrando elle, assentou-se na praça da cidade, porque não houve quem os recolhesse em casa para ali passarem a noite.
They turned aside there to spend the night in Gibeah. They went and sat down in the city square, but no one took them into his house for the night.
16 E eis que um homem velho vinha á tarde do seu trabalho do campo; e era este homem da montanha de Ephraim, mas peregrinava em Gibeah: eram porém os homens d'este logar filhos de Benjamin.
But then an old man was coming from his work in the field that evening. He was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he was staying for a while in Gibeah. But the men living in that place were Benjamites.
17 Levantando elle pois os olhos, viu a este passageiro na praça da cidade, e disse o velho: Para onde vaes, e d'onde vens?
He raised his eyes and saw the traveler in the city square. The old man said, “Where are you going? Where are you coming from?”
18 E elle lhe disse: Passamos de Beth-lehem de Judah até aos lados da montanha de Ephraim, d'onde sou; porquanto fui a Beth-lehem de Judah: porém agora vou á casa do Senhor; e ninguem ha que me recolha em casa,
The Levite said to him, “We are on our way from Bethlehem in Judah to the most remote part of the hill country of Ephraim, which is where I come from. I went to Bethlehem in Judah, and I am going to the house of Yahweh, but there is no one who will take me into his house.
19 Ainda que ha palha e pasto para os nossos jumentos, e tambem pão e vinho ha para mim, e para a tua serva, e para o moço que vem com os teus servos: de coisa nenhuma ha falta.
We have straw and feed for our donkeys, and there is bread and wine for me and your female servant here, and for this young man with your servants. We lack nothing.”
20 Então disse o velho: Paz seja comtigo; tudo quanto te faltar fique ao meu cargo: tão sómente não passes a noite na praça.
The old man greeted them, “Peace be with you! I will take care of all your needs. Only do not spend the night in the square.”
21 E trouxe-o a sua casa, e deu pasto aos jumentos: e, lavando-se os pés, comeram e beberam.
So the man brought the Levite into his house and gave feed to the donkeys. They washed their feet and ate and drank.
22 Estando elles alegrando o seu coração, eis que os homens d'aquella cidade (homens que eram filhos de Belial) cercaram a casa, batendo á porta; e fallaram ao velho, senhor da casa, dizendo: Tira para fóra o homem que entrou em tua casa, para que o conheçamos.
While they were making their hearts glad, some men of the city, worthless men, surrounded the house, beating on the door. They spoke to the old man, the master of the house, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, so we can have sex with him.”
23 E o homem, senhor da casa, saiu a elles, e disse-lhes: Não, irmãos meus, ora não façaes similhante mal: já que este homem entrou em minha casa, não façaes tal loucura.
The man, the master of the house, went out to them and said to them, “No, my brothers, please do not do this evil thing! Since this man is a guest in my house, do not do this wicked thing!
24 Eis que a minha filha virgem e a concubina d'elle vol-as tirarei fóra; humilhae-as a ellas, e fazei d'ellas o que parecer bem aos vossos olhos; porém a este homem não façaes loucura similhante.
See, my virgin daughter and his concubine are here. Let me bring them out now. Violate them and do with them whatever you like. But do not do such a wicked thing to this man!”
25 Porém aquelles homens não o quizeram ouvir: então aquelle homem pegou da sua concubina, e lh'a tirou para fóra: e elles a conheceram e abusaram d'ella toda a noite até pela manhã, e, subindo a alva, a deixaram.
But the men would not listen to him, so the man seized his concubine and brought her out to them. They raped her and abused her all throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go.
26 E ao romper da manhã veiu a mulher, e caiu á porta da casa d'aquelle homem, onde estava seu senhor, e ficou ali até que se fez claro.
At dawn the woman came and she fell down at the door of the man's house where her master was, and she lay there until it was light.
27 E, levantando-se seu senhor pela manhã, e abrindo as portas da casa, e saindo a seguir o seu caminho, eis que a mulher, sua concubina, jazia á porta da casa, com as mãos sobre o limiar.
Her master rose up in the morning and opened the doors of the house and went out to go on his way. He could see his concubine lying there at the door, with her hands on the threshold.
28 E elle lhe disse: Levanta-te, e vamo-nos, porém não respondeu; então pôl-a sobre o jumento, e levantou-se o homem, e foi-se para o seu logar.
The Levite said to her, “Get up. Let us go.” But there was no answer. He put her on the donkey, and the man set out for home.
29 Chegando pois á sua casa, tomou um cutelo, e pegou na sua concubina, e a despedaçou com os seus ossos em doze partes: e enviou-as por todos os termos de Israel.
When the Levite came to his house, he took a knife, and he took hold of his concubine, and cut her up, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent the pieces everywhere throughout Israel.
30 E succedeu que cada um que tal via dizia: Nunca tal se fez, nem se viu desde o dia em que os filhos d'Israel subiram da terra do Egypto, até ao dia d'hoje: ponderae isto no coração, considerae, e fallae.
All who saw this said, “Such a thing has never been done or seen from the day the people of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this present day. Think about it! Give us advice! Tell us what to do!”
