Josué 14

1 Isto pois é o que os filhos de Israel tiveram em herança na terra de Canaan: o que Eleazar, o sacerdote, e Josué, filho de Nun, e os Cabeças dos paes das tribus dos filhos de Israel lhes fizeram repartir,

These are the areas of land that the people of Israel received as their inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the the tribal leaders of Israel allotted to them.

2 Por sorte da sua herança, come o Senhor ordenara, pelo ministerio de Moysés, ácerca das nove tribus e da meia tribu.

Their inheritance was selected by lot for the nine and one-half tribes, just as Yahweh had commanded by the hand of Moses.

3 Porquanto ás duas tribus e á meia tribu já deu Moysés herança d'além do Jordão: mas aos levitas não tinha dado herança entre elles.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance.

4 Porque os filhos de José foram duas tribus, Manasseh e Ephraim: e aos levitas não deram herança na terra, senão cidades em que habitassem, e os seus arrabaldes para seu gado e para sua possessão.

The tribe of Joseph was actually two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. The Levites were given no portion of the inheritance in the land, but only certain cities to live in, with their pasturelands for livestock and for their own material resources.

5 Como o Senhor ordenara a Moysés, assim fizeram os filhos d'Israel, e repartiram a terra.

The people of Israel did as Yahweh commanded Moses, so they assigned the land.

6 Então os filhos de Judah chegaram a Josué em Gilgal; e Caleb, filho de Jefoné o kenezeo, lhe disse: Tu sabes a palavra que o Senhor fallou a Moysés, homem de Deus, em Cades-barnea, por causa de mim e de ti.

Then the tribe of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him, “You know what Yahweh said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me at Kadesh Barnea.

7 Da edade de quarenta annos era eu, quando Moysés, servo do Senhor, me enviou de Cades-barnea a espiar a terra: e eu lhe trouxe resposta, como sentia no meu coração:

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Yahweh sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy on the land. I brought him a report again as it was in my heart to make.

8 Mas meus irmãos, que subiram comigo, fizeram derreter o coração do povo: eu porém perseverei em seguir ao Senhor meu Deus.

But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear. But I completely followed Yahweh my God.

9 Então Moysés n'aquelle dia jurou, dizendo: Certamente a terra que pisou o teu pé será tua, e de teus filhos, em herança perpetuamente; pois perseveraste em seguir ao Senhor meu Deus

Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has walked will be an inheritance for you and for your children forever, because you have completely followed Yahweh my God.'

10 E agora eis-que o Senhor me conservou em vida, como disse; quarenta e cinco annos ha agora, desde que o Senhor fallou esta palavra a Moysés, andando Israel ainda no deserto: e agora eis-que já hoje sou de edade de oitenta e cinco annos.

Now, look! Yahweh has kept me alive these forty-five years, just as he said—from the time when Yahweh spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. Now, look! I am this day eighty-five years old.

11 E ainda hoje estou tão forte como no dia em que Moysés me enviou; qual a minha força então era, tal é agora a minha força, para a guerra, e para sair e para entrar.

I am still as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me out. My strength is now as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.

12 Agora pois dá-me este monte de que o Senhor fallou aquelle dia: pois n'aquelle dia tu ouviste que os enakins estão ali, e grandes e fortes cidades ha ali: porventura o Senhor será comigo, para os expellir, como o Senhor disse.

Now therefore give me this hill country, which Yahweh promised me on that day. For you heard on that day that the Anakim were there with great fortified cities. It may be that Yahweh will be with me and that I will drive them out, just as Yahweh said.”

13 E Josué o abençoou, e deu a Caleb, filho de Jefoné, a Hebron em herança.

Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron as an inheritance to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

14 Portanto Hebron foi de Caleb, filho de Jefoné o kenezeo, em herança até ao dia d'hoje: porquanto perseverara em seguir ao Senhor Deus d'Israel.

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he completely followed Yahweh, the God of Israel.

15 E era d'antes o nome d'Hebron Kiriath-arba, porque Arba foi um grande homem entre os anekins. E a terra repousou da guerra.

Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath Arba. (Arba had been the greatest man among the Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
