Jó 4
1 Então respondeu Eliphaz o temanita, e disse:
Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,
2 Se intentarmos fallar-te, enfadar-te-has? mas quem poderia conter as palavras?
If we bigynnen to speke to thee, in hap thou schalt take it heuyli; but who may holde a word conseyued?
3 Eis que ensinaste a muitos, e esforçaste as mãos fracas.
Lo! thou hast tauyt ful many men, and thou hast strengthid hondis maad feynt.
4 As tuas palavras levantaram os que tropeçavam e os joelhos desfallecentes fortificaste.
Thi wordis confermyden men doutynge, and thou coumfortidist knees tremblynge.
5 Mas agora a ti te vem, e te enfadas: e, tocando-te a ti, te perturbas.
But now a wounde is comun on thee, and thou hast failid; it touchide thee, and thou art disturblid.
6 Porventura não era o teu temor de Deus a tua confiança, e a tua esperança a sinceridade dos teus caminhos?
Where is thi drede, thi strengthe, and thi pacience, and the perfeccioun of thi weies?
7 Lembra-te agora qual é o innocente que jamais perecesse? e onde foram os sinceros destruidos?
Y biseche thee, haue thou mynde, what innocent man perischide euere, ethir whanne riytful men weren doon awei?
8 Como eu tenho visto, os que lavram iniquidade, e semeam trabalho segam o mesmo.
Certis rathir Y siy hem, that worchen wickidnesse, and sowen sorewis,
9 Com o bafo de Deus perecem; e com o assopro da sua ira se consomem.
and repen tho, to haue perischid bi God blowynge, and to be wastid bi the spirit of his ire.
10 O bramido do leão, e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebrantam.
The roryng of a lioun, and the vois of a lionesse, and the teeth of `whelpis of liouns ben al to-brokun.
11 Perece o leão velho, porque não ha preza; e os filhos da leoa andam esparzidos.
Tigris perischide, for sche hadde not prey; and the whelpis of a lioun ben distried.
12 Uma palavra se me disse em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro d'ella.
Certis an hid word was seid to me, and myn eere took as theueli the veynes of priuy noise therof.
13 Entre imaginações de visões da noite, quando cae sobre os homens o somno profundo;
In the hidousnesse of `nyytis siyt, whanne heuy sleep is wont to occupie men,
14 Sobreveiu-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram.
drede and tremblyng helde me; and alle my boonys weren aferd.
15 Então um espirito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabellos da minha carne;
And whanne the spirit `yede in my presence, the heiris of `my fleisch hadden hidousnesse.
16 Parou elle, porém não conheci a sua feição; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos: e, calando-me, ouvi uma voz que dizia:
Oon stood, whos chere Y knewe not, an ymage bifor myn iyen; and Y herde a vois as of softe wynd.
17 Seria porventura o homem mais justo do que Deus? seria porventura o varão mais puro do que o seu Creador?
Whether a man schal be maad iust in comparisoun of God? ethir whethir a man schal be clennere than his Makere?
18 Eis-que nos seus servos não confiaria, e aos seus anjos imputaria loucura:
Lo! thei that seruen hym ben not stidefast; and he findith schrewidnesse in hise aungels.
19 Quanto menos n'aquelles que habitam em casas de lodo, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são machucados como a traça!
Hou myche more thei that dwellen in housis of cley, that han an ertheli foundement, schulen be wastyd as of a mouyte.
20 Desde a manhã até á tarde são despedaçados: e eternamente perecem sem que d'isso se faça caso.
Fro morewtid til to euentid thei schulen be kit doun; and for no man vndurstondith, thei schulen perische with outen ende.
21 Porventura se não passa com elles a sua excellencia? morrem, porém sem sabedoria.
Sotheli thei, that ben residue, schulen be takun awei; thei schulen die, and not in wisdom.
