1 Porém agora se riem de mim os de menos edade do que eu, cujos paes eu teria desdenhado de pôr com os cães do meu rebanho.
Bvt now they that are yonger then I, mocke me: yea, they whose fathers I haue refused to set with the dogges of my flockes.
2 De que tambem me serviria a força das suas mãos? já de velhice se tinham esgotado n'elles.
For whereto shoulde the strength of their handes haue serued mee, seeing age perished in them?
3 De mingua e fome andavam sós, e recolhiam-se para os logares seccos, tenebrosos, assolados e desertos.
For pouertie and famine they were solitary, fleeing into the wildernes, which is darke, desolate and waste.
4 Apanhavam malvas junto aos arbustos, e o seu mantimento eram as raizes dos zimbros.
They cut vp nettels by the bushes, and the iuniper rootes was their meate.
5 Do meio dos homens foram expulsos, e gritavam contra elles, como contra o ladrão:
They were chased forth from among men: they shouted at them, as at a theefe.
6 Para habitarem nos barrancos dos valles, e nas cavernas da terra e das rochas.
Therfore they dwelt in the clefts of riuers, in the holes of the earth and rockes.
7 Bramavam entre os arbustos, e ajuntavam-se debaixo das ortigas.
They roared among the bushes, and vnder the thistles they gathered themselues.
8 Eram filhos de doidos, e filhos de gente sem nome, e da terra foram expulsos.
They were the children of fooles and the children of villaines, which were more vile then the earth.
9 Porém agora sou a sua canção, e lhes sirvo de rifão.
And now am I their song, and I am their talke.
10 Abominam-me, e fogem para longe de mim, e do meu rosto não reteem o seu escarro.
They abhorre me, and flee farre from mee, and spare not to spit in my face.
11 Porque Deus desatou o meu cordão, e me opprimiu, pelo que sacudiram de si o freio perante o meu rosto.
Because that God hath loosed my corde and humbled mee, they haue loosed the bridle before me.
12 Á direita se levantam os moços; empurram os meus pés, e preparam contra mim os seus caminhos de destruição.
The youth rise vp at my right hand: they haue pusht my feete, and haue trode on me as on the paths of their destruction.
13 Desbarataram-me o meu caminho: promovem a minha miseria: não teem ajudador.
They haue destroyed my paths: they tooke pleasure at my calamitie, they had none helpe.
14 Veem contra mim como por uma grande brecha, e revolvem-se entre a assolação.
They came as a great breach of waters, and vnder this calamitie they come on heapes.
15 Sobrevieram-me pavores; como vento perseguem a minha honra, e como nuvem passou a minha felicidade.
Feare is turned vpon mee: and they pursue my soule as the winde, and mine health passeth away as a cloude.
16 E agora derrama-se em mim a minha alma: os dias da afflicção se apoderaram de mim.
Therefore my soule is nowe powred out vpon me, and the dayes of affliction haue taken holde on me.
17 De noite se me traspassam os meus ossos, e os pulsos das minhas veias não descançam.
It pearceth my bones in the night, and my sinewes take no rest.
18 Pela grandeza da força das dôres se demudou o meu vestido, e elle como o cabeção da minha tunica me cinge.
For the great vehemencie is my garment changed, which compasseth me about as the colar of my coate.
19 Lançou-me na lama, e fiquei similhante ao pó e á cinza.
He hath cast me into the myre, and I am become like ashes and dust.
20 Clamo a ti, porém tu não me respondes: estou em pé, porém para mim não attentas.
Whe I cry vnto thee, thou doest not heare me, neither regardest me, when I stand vp.
21 Tornaste-te a ser cruel contra mim: com a força da tua mão resistes violentamente.
Thou turnest thy selfe cruelly against me, and art enemie vnto mee with the strength of thine hand.
22 Levantas-me sobre o vento, fazes-me cavalgar sobre elle, e derretes-me o ser.
Thou takest me vp and causest mee to ride vpon the winde, and makest my strength to faile.
23 Porque eu sei que me levarás á morte e á casa do ajuntamento determinado a todos os viventes.
Surely I knowe that thou wilt bring mee to death, and to the house appoynted for all the liuing.
24 Porém não estenderá a mão para o montão de terra, se houve clamor n'elles contra mim na sua desventura.
Doubtles none can stretch his hand vnto the graue, though they cry in his destruction.
25 Porventura, não chorei sobre aquelle que estava afflicto? ou não se angustiou a minha alma pelo necessitado?
Did not I weepe with him that was in trouble? was not my soule in heauinesse for the poore?
26 Todavia aguardando eu o bem, então me veiu o mal, e esperando eu a luz, veiu a escuridão.
Yet when I looked for good, euill came vnto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkenesse.
27 As minhas entranhas ferveram e não estão quietas: os dias da afflicção me surprehenderam.
My bowels did boyle without rest: for the dayes of affliction are come vpon me.
28 Denegrido ando, porém não do sol, e, levantando-me na congregação, clamo por soccorro.
I went mourning without sunne: I stood vp in the congregation and cryed.
29 Irmão me fiz dos dragões, e companheiro dos abestruzes.
I am a brother to the dragons, and a companion to the ostriches.
30 Ennegreceu-se a minha pelle sobre mim, e os meus ossos estão queimados do calor.
My skinne is blacke vpon me, and my bones are burnt with heate.
31 Pelo que se trocou a minha harmonia em lamentação, e o meu orgão em voz dos que choram.
Therefore mine harpe is turned to mourning, and mine organs into the voyce of them that weepe.
