1 Respondeu porém Job, e disse:
Then Job answered by saying:
2 Ainda hoje a minha queixa está em amargura: a violencia da minha praga mais se aggrava do que o meu gemido.
Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.
3 Ah se eu soubesse que o poderia achar! então me chegaria ao seu tribunal.
Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?
4 Com boa ordem exporia ante elle a minha causa, e a minha bocca encheria d'argumentos.
I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,
5 Saberia as palavras com que elle me responderia, e entenderia o que me dissesse.
so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.
6 Porventura segundo a grandeza de seu poder contenderia comigo? não; elle só o põe em mim.
I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.
7 Ali o recto pleitearia com elle, e eu me livraria para sempre do meu Juiz.
Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.
8 Eis que se me adianto, ali não está: se torno para traz, não o percebo.
If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.
9 Se obra a mão esquerda, não o vejo: se se encobre á mão direita, não o diviso.
If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.
10 Porém elle sabe o meu caminho: prove-me, e sairei como o oiro.
Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.
11 Nas suas pizadas os meus pés se affirmaram: guardei o seu caminho, e não me desviei d'elle.
My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.
12 Do preceito de seus labios nunca me apartei, e as palavras da sua bocca guardei mais do que a minha porção.
I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.
13 Mas, se elle está contra alguem, quem então o desviará? o que a sua alma quizer isso fará.
For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.
14 Porque cumprirá o que está ordenado a meu respeito, e muitas coisas como estas ainda tem comsigo.
And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.
15 Por isso me perturbo perante elle, considero, e temo-me d'elle.
And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.
16 Porque Deus macerou o meu coração, e o Todo-poderoso me perturbou.
God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.
17 Porquanto não fui desarreigado antes das trevas, e nem encobriu com a escuridão o meu rosto.
Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.
