Jó 22
1 Então respondeu Eliphaz o temanita, e disse:
And Eliphaz the Temanite answereth and saith: —
2 Porventura o homem será d'algum proveito a Deus? antes a si mesmo o prudente será proveitoso.
To God is a man profitable, Because a wise man to himself is profitable?
3 Ou tem o Todo-poderoso prazer em que tu sejas justo? ou lucro algum que tu faças perfeitos os teus caminhos?
Is it a delight to the Mighty One That thou art righteous? is it gain, That thou makest perfect thy ways?
4 Ou te reprehende, pelo temor que tem de ti? ou entra comtigo em juizo?
Because of thy reverence Doth He reason [with] thee? He entereth with thee into judgment:
5 Porventura não é grande a tua malicia? e sem termo as tuas iniquidades?
Is not thy wickedness abundant? And there is no end to thine iniquities.
6 Porque penhoraste a teus irmãos sem causa alguma, e aos nus despiste os vestidos.
For thou takest a pledge of thy brother for nought, And the garments of the naked Thou dost strip off.
7 Não déste de beber agua ao cançado, e ao faminto retiveste o pão.
Thou causest not the weary to drink water, And from the hungry thou withholdest bread.
8 Mas para o violento era a terra, e o homem tido em respeito habitava n'ella.
As to the man of arm — he hath the earth, And the accepted of face — he dwelleth in it.
9 As viuvas despediste vazias, e os braços dos orphãos foram quebrantados.
Widows thou hast sent away empty, And the arms of the fatherless are bruised.
10 Por isso é que estás cercado de laços, e te perturbou um pavor repentino,
Therefore round about thee [are] snares, And trouble thee doth fear suddenly.
11 Ou as trevas que não vês, e a abundancia d'agua que te cobre.
Or darkness — thou dost not see, And abundance of waters doth cover thee.
12 Porventura Deus não está na altura dos céus? olha pois para o cume das estrellas, quão levantadas estão.
Is not God high [in] heaven? And see the summit of the stars, That they are high.
13 E dizes que sabe Deus d'isto? porventura julgará por entre a escuridão?
And thou hast said, 'What — hath God known? Through thickness doth He judge?
14 As nuvens são escondedura para elle, para que não veja: e passeia pelo circuito dos céus.
Thick clouds [are] a secret place to Him, And He doth not see;' And the circle of the heavens He walketh habitually,
15 Porventura consideraste a vereda do seculo passado, que pisaram os homens iniquos?
The path of the age dost thou observe, That men of iniquity have trodden?
16 Os quaes foram arrebatados antes do seu tempo: sobre cujo fundamento um diluvio se derramou.
Who have been cut down unexpectedly, A flood is poured out on their foundation.
17 Diziam a Deus: Retira-te de nós. E que é o que o Todo-poderoso lhes fez?
Those saying to God, 'Turn aside from us,' And what doth the Mighty One to them?
18 Sendo elle o que enchera de bens as suas casas: mas o conselho dos impios esteja longe de mim.
And he hath filled their houses [with] good: (And the counsel of the wicked Hath been far from me.)
19 Os justos o viram, e se alegravam, e o innocente escarneceu d'elles.
See do the righteous and they rejoice, And the innocent mocketh at them,
20 Porquanto o nosso estado não foi destruido, mas o fogo consumiu o resto d'elles.
'Surely our substance hath not been cut off, And their excellency hath fire consumed.'
21 Acostuma-te pois a elle, e tem paz, e assim te sobrevirá o bem.
Acquaint thyself, I pray thee, with Him, And be at peace, Thereby thine increase [is] good.
22 Acceita, peço-te, a lei da sua bocca, e põe as suas palavras no teu coração.
Receive, I pray thee, from His mouth a law, And set His sayings in thy heart.
23 Se te converteres ao Todo-poderoso, serás edificado: affasta a iniquidade da tua tenda.
If thou dost return unto the Mighty Thou art built up, Thou puttest iniquity far from thy tents.
24 Então amontoarás oiro como pó, e o oiro d'Ophir como pedras dos ribeiros.
So as to set on the dust a defence, And on a rock of the valleys a covering.
25 E até o Todo-poderoso te será por oiro, e a tua prata amontoada.
And the Mighty hath been thy defence, And silver [is] strength to thee.
26 Porque então te deleitarás no Todo-poderoso, e levantarás o teu rosto para Deus.
For then on the Mighty thou delightest thyself, And dost lift up unto God thy face,
27 Devéras orarás, a elle, e elle te ouvirá, e pagarás os teus votos.
Thou dost make supplication unto Him, And He doth hear thee, And thy vows thou completest.
28 Determinando tu algum negocio, ser-te-ha firme, e a luz brilhará em teus caminhos.
And thou decreest a saying, And it is established to thee, And on thy ways hath light shone.
29 Quando abaterem, então tu dirás: Haja exaltação: e Deus salvará ao humilde.
For they have made low, And thou sayest, 'Lift up.' And the bowed down of eyes he saveth.
30 E livrará até ao que não é innocente; porque fica livre pela pureza de tuas mãos.
He delivereth the not innocent, Yea, he hath been delivered By the cleanness of thy hands.
