Jó 15
1 Então respondeu Eliphaz o themanita, e disse:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 Porventura dará o sabio por resposta sciencia de vento? e encherá o seu ventre de vento oriental?
“Would a wise man answer with such empty ‘knowledge’ that is just a lot of hot air?
3 Arguindo com palavras que de nada servem e com razões, com que nada aproveita?
He wouldn't argue with unprofitable speeches using words that do no good.
4 E tu tens feito vão o temor, e diminues os rogos diante de Deus.
But you are doing away with the fear of God, and destroying communion with him.
5 Porque a tua bocca declara a tua iniquidade; e tu escolheste a lingua dos astutos.
It's your sins that are doing the talking, and you are choosing deceptive words.
6 A tua bocca te condemna, e não eu, e os teus labios testificam contra ti.
Your own mouth is condemning you, not me; your own lips are testifying against you.
7 És tu porventura o primeiro homem que foi nascido? ou foste gerado antes dos outeiros?
Were you the very first person to be born? Were you born before the hills were created?
8 Ou ouviste o secreto conselho de Deus? e a ti só limitaste a sabedoria?
Were you there listening in God's council? Does wisdom only belong to you?
9 Que sabes tu, que nós não sabemos? e que entendes, que não haja em nós?
What do you know that we don't? What do you understand that we don't?
10 Tambem ha entre nós encanecidos e edosos, muito mais edosos do que teu pae.
We have among us old, gray-haired people much older than your father!
11 Porventura as consolações de Deus te são pequenas? ou alguma coisa se occulta em ti
Are the comforts God provides too little for you? Are God's gentle words not enough for you?
12 Porque te arrebata o teu coração? e porque acenam os teus olhos?
Why do you let yourself be carried away by your emotions?
13 Para virares contra Deus o teu espirito, e deixares sair taes palavras da tua bocca?
Why do your eyes flash in anger that you turn against God and let yourself speak this way?
14 Que é o homem, para que seja puro? e o que nasce da mulher, para que fique justo?
Who can say they are clean? Which human being can say that they do what is right?
15 Eis que nos seus sanctos não confiaria, e nem os céus são puros aos seus olhos.
Look, God doesn't even trust his angels—even the heavenly beings are not pure in his sight!
16 Quanto mais abominavel e fedorento é o homem que bebe a iniquidade como a agua?
How much less pure are those who are unclean and corrupt, drinking in sin like water!
17 Escuta-me, mostrar-t'o-hei: e o que vi te contarei
If you are ready to listen to me, I will show you. I will explain my insights.
18 (O que os sabios annunciaram, ouvindo-o de seus paes, e o não occultaram.
This is what wise men have said, confirmed by their ancestors,
19 Aos quaes sómente se déra a terra, e nenhum estranho passou por meis d'elles):
those who to whom alone the land was given before foreigners ever were there.
20 Todos os dias o impio se dá pena a si mesmo, e se reservam para o tyranno um certo numero d'annos.
The wicked writhe in pain all their lives, through all the years these oppressors survive.
21 O sonido dos horrores está nos seus ouvidos: até na paz lhe sobrevem o assolador.
Terrifying sounds fill their ears; even when they think they're safe, the destroyer will attack them.
22 Não crê que tornará das trevas, e que está esperado da espada.
They don't believe they will escape the darkness—they know a sword is waiting for them.
23 Anda vagueando por pão, dizendo: Onde está? Bem sabe que já o dia das trevas lhe está preparado á mão.
They wander around looking for food, asking ‘Where is it?’ They know that their day of darkness is close at hand.
24 Assombram-n'o a angustia e a tribulação; prevalecem contra elle, como o rei preparado para a peleja.
Misery and torment overwhelm them like a king preparing for battle.
25 Porque estende a sua mão contra Deus, e contra o Todo-poderoso se embravece.
They shake their fists in God's face, defiantly challenging the Almighty,
26 Arremette contra elle com a dura cerviz, e contra os pontos grossos dos seus escudos.
insolently attacking him with their shields.
27 Porquanto cobriu o seu rosto com a sua gordura, e criou enxundia nas ilhargas.
They have become fat in their rebellion, their bellies bloated with fat.
28 E habitou em cidades assoladas, em casas em que ninguem morava, que estavam a ponto de fazer-se montões de ruinas.
But their cities will become desolate; they will live in abandoned houses that are crumbling into ruins.
29 Não se enriquecerá, nem subsistirá a sua fazenda, nem se estenderão pela terra as suas possessões.
They will lose their riches, their wealth will not endure, their possessions will not spread over the earth.
30 Não escapará das trevas; a chamma do fogo seccará os seus renovos, e ao assopro da sua bocca desapparecerá.
They will not escape from the darkness. Like a tree whose shoots are burned up in a forest fire, the breath of God will blow him away.
31 Não confie pois na vaidade enganando-se a si mesmo, porque a vaidade será a sua recompensa.
They should not trust in things that are worthless, for their reward will be worthless.
32 Antes do seu dia ella se lhe cumprirá; e o seu ramo não reverdecerá.
This will be paid in full before their time has come. They are like tree branches that wither,
33 Sacudirá as suas uvas verdes, como as da vide, e deixará cair a sua flor como a da oliveira.
like vines that lose their unripe grapes, or olive trees that lose their flowers.
34 Porque o ajuntamento dos hypocritas se fará esteril, e o fogo consumirá as tendas do soborno.
For those who reject God are barren, and fire will burn up the homes of those who love bribes.
35 Concebem o trabalho, e parem a iniquidade, e o seu ventre prepara enganos.
They plan trouble and produce evil, giving birth to deception.”
