Jeremias 9
1 Oxalá a minha cabeça se tornasse em aguas, e os meus olhos n'uma fonte de lagrimas! então choraria de dia e de noite os mortos da filha do meu povo.
O that my head were waters, And mine eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For the slain of the daughter of my people!
2 Oxalá tivesse no deserto uma estalagem de caminhantes! então deixaria o meu povo, e me apartaria d'elle, porque todos elles são adulteros, e um bando d'aleivosos.
O that I had a traveller's lodge in the wilderness, That I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers; An assembly of revolters.
3 E estendem a sua lingua como o seu arco, para mentira; fortalecem-se na terra, porém não para verdade; porque se avançam de malicia em malicia, e a mim me não conhecem, diz o Senhor.
They bend their tongues, like their bows, for lies, And not by truth do they grow mighty in the earth; They proceed from wickedness to wickedness, And have no regard to me, saith Jehovah.
4 Guardae-vos cada um do seu amigo, e de irmão nenhum vos fieis; porque todo o irmão não faz mais do que enganar, e todo o amigo anda calumniando.
Be on your guard each one against his neighbor, And trust ye not in any brother; For every brother will supplant, And every neighbor will slander.
5 E zombará cada um do seu amigo, e não fallam a verdade: ensinam a sua lingua a fallar a mentira, andam-se cançando em obrar perversamente.
They deceive every one his neighbor, And do not speak the truth; They have accustomed their tongues to speak lies; They weary themselves in doing iniquity.
6 A tua habitação está no meio do engano: com engano recusam conhecer-me, diz o Senhor.
Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit, [[O prophet!]] Through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.
7 Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos: Eis que eu os fundirei e os provarei; porque, como d'outra maneira faria com a filha do meu povo?
Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold I will melt them and try them; For what else can I do on account of the daughter of my people?
8 Uma frecha mortifera é a sua lingua, falla engano: com a sua bocca falla de paz com o seu companheiro, mas no seu interior arma-lhe ciladas.
Their tongue is a deadly arrow; Every one of them speaketh treachery; With their mouth they speak peace to their neighbor, But in their heart they lay snares for him.
9 Porventura por estas coisas não os visitaria? diz o Senhor; ou não se vingaria a minha alma de gente tal como esta?
Shall I not punish them for these things? saith Jehovah; Shall I not be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 Sobre os montes levantarei choro e pranto, e sobre as cabanas do deserto lamentação; porque já estão queimadas, e ninguem ha que passe por ali, nem ouçam berro de gado: já desde as aves dos céus, até ás bestas, andaram vagueando, e fugiram.
For the mountains will I lift up a weeping and wailing, And for the pastures of the plains a lamentation, For they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; No more is heard the voice of the cattle; Both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled, and are gone.
11 E farei de Jerusalem montões de pedras, morada de dragões, e das cidades de Judah farei uma assolação, de sorte que não haja habitante.
I will make Jerusalem heaps of stones, The dwelling-place of jackals; And I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
12 Quem é o homem sabio, que entenda isto? e a quem fallou a bocca do Senhor, que o possa annunciar? porque razão pereceu a terra, e se queimou como deserto, sem que ninguem passe por ella.
Who is the wise man, that he may understand this, And he to whom the mouth of the Lord hath spoken, that he may declare it? Why is it that the land perisheth, That it is burned up like a desert, which none passeth through?
13 E disse o Senhor: Porquanto deixaram a minha lei, que dei perante a sua face, e não deram ouvidos á minha voz, nem andaram conforme ella,
Jehovah himself hath said: It is because they have forsaken my law, Which I set before them, And have not hearkened to my voice, Nor walked according to it;
14 Antes andaram após o proposito do seu coração, e após os baalins, o que lhes ensinaram os seus paes,
But have walked after the obstinacy of their own heart, And after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.
15 Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos, Deus d'Israel: Eis que darei de comer alosna a este povo, e lhe darei a beber agua de fel.
Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood, And give them water of hemlock to drink.
16 E os espalharei entre nações, que não conheceram, nem elles nem seus paes, e mandarei a espada após elles, até que venha a consumil-os.
I will also scatter them among nations Which neither they nor their fathers have known, And I will send after them the sword, Till I have made an end of them.
17 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos: Considerae, e chamae carpideiras que venham; e enviae por sabias, para que venham.
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come, And send to the skilful ones, that they may come;
18 E se apressem, e levantem o seu lamento sobre nós; e desfaçam-se os nossos olhos em lagrimas, e as nossas palpebras se distillem em aguas.
Let them make haste, and lift up a wailing for us, That our eyes may run down with tears, And our eyelids gush forth with waters.
19 Porque uma voz de pranto se ouviu de Sião: Como somos destruidos! estamos mui envergonhados, porque deixámos a terra, porquanto transtornaram as nossas moradas.
Behold, a voice of wailing is heard from Zion: “How are we spoiled! How are we put to shame! We must leave our native land; They have cast down our habitations.”
20 Ouvi pois, vós, mulheres, a palavra do Senhor, e os vossos ouvidos recebam a palavra da sua bocca: e ensinae o pranto a vossas filhas, e cada uma á sua companheira a lamentação.
Hear, O ye women, the word of Jehovah! Let your ear receive the word of his mouth! Teach your daughters a lamentation, And every one her companion a mournful dirge!
21 Porque já a morte subiu pelas nossas janellas, e entrou em nossos palacios, para exterminar os meninos das ruas e os mancebos das praças.
For death cometh in through our windows, It entereth our palaces; It cutteth off the children from the street, And the young men from the public places.
22 Falla: Assim diz o Senhor: Até os cadaveres dos homens jazerão como esterco sobre a face do campo, e como gavela detraz do segador, e não ha quem a recolha.
Declare it, saith Jehovah! The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, And as the handful behind the reaper, Which none gathereth up.
23 Assim diz o Senhor: Não se glorie o sabio na sua sabedoria, nem se glorie o valente na sua valentia; não se glorie o rico nas suas riquezas.
Thus saith Jehovah: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty glory in his might, Nor let the rich glory in his riches!
24 Mas o que se gloriar glorie-se n'isto, em que me entende e me conhece, que eu sou o Senhor, que faço beneficencia, juizo e justiça na terra; porque d'estas coisas me agrado, diz o Senhor.
But let him that glorieth glory in this, That he hath regard to me, and knoweth me, That I am Jehovah, who exercise loving-kindness, Justice, and righteousness upon the earth; For in these do I delight, saith Jehovah.
25 Eis que veem dias, diz o Senhor, e visitarei a todo o circumcidado com o incircumciso.
Behold the days come, saith Jehovah, That I will punish all the circumcised with the uncircumcised,
26 Ao Egypto, e a Judah, e a Edom, e aos filhos d'Ammon, e a Moab, e a todos os que moram nos ultimos cantos da terra, que habitam no deserto; porque todas as nações são incircumcisas, e toda a casa d'Israel é incircumcisa de coração.
Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, And the sons of Ammon and Moab, And all with shaven cheeks, that dwell in the wilderness. For all the nations are uncircumcised, And all the house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.
