Jeremias 51

1 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra Babylonia, e contra os que habitam no coração dos que se levantam contra mim.

Thus says the LORD: "Look, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.

2 E enviarei padejadores contra Babylonia, que a padejarão, e despejarão a sua terra; porque virão contra ella de redor no dia da calamidade.

I will send to Babylon foreigners who shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her around.

3 O frecheiro arme o seu arco contra o que arma o seu arco, e contra o que presume da sua couraça; e não perdoeis a seus mancebos; destrui a todo o seu exercito.

Do not let him who bends the bow bend it; nor not let him rise up in his armor. And do not spare her young men; utterly destroy all her army.

4 E os mortos caiam na terra dos chaldeos, e os atravessados pelas ruas.

They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

5 Porque Israel e Judah não foram deixados viuvas do seu Deus, do Senhor dos Exercitos, ainda que a sua terra esteja cheia de culpas perante o Sancto de Israel.

"For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

6 Fugi do meio de Babylonia, e livrae cada um a sua alma, e não vos destruaes a vós na sua maldade: por- que este é o tempo da vingança do Senhor, que lhe paga retribuição.

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life; do not be cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of the LORD's vengeance; he will render to her a recompense.

7 Era Babylonia um copo de oiro na mão do Senhor, que embriagava a toda a terra: do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso as nações enlouqueceram.

Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, who made all the earth drunk: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

8 N'um momento caiu Babylonia, e ficou arruinada: uivae sobre ella, tomae balsamo para a sua dôr, porventura sarará.

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

9 Sarámos a Babylonia, porém ella não sarou; deixae-a, e vamo-nos cada um para a sua terra: porque o seu juizo chegou até ao céu, e se elevou até ás mais altas nuvens

'We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.'

10 O Senhor tirou a nossa justiça á luz: vinde e contemos em Sião a obra do Senhor, nosso Deus.

'The LORD has brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.'

11 Alimpae as frechas, preparae perfeitamente os escudos: o Senhor despertou o espirito dos reis da Media; porque o seu intento contra Babylonia é para a destruir; porque esta é a vingança do Senhor, a vingança do seu templo.

Make sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: the LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.

12 Arvorae bandeira sobre os muros de Babylonia, reforçae a guarda, collocae guardas, preparae as ciladas; porque como o Senhor intentou, assim fez o que tinha fallado ácerca dos moradores de Babylonia.

Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both purposed and done that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 Tu que habitas sobre muitas aguas, rica de thesouros, veiu o teu fim, a medida da tua avareza.

You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.

14 Jurou o Senhor dos Exercitos por si mesmo, dizendo: Ainda que te enchi de homens, como de pulgão, comtudo cantarão com jubilo sobre ti.

The LORD of hosts has sworn by himself, saying, "Surely I will fill you with men, as with the canker worm; and they shall lift up a shout against you."

15 Aquelle que fez a terra com o seu poder, e ordenou o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e estendeu os céus com o seu entendimento.

He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens.

16 Dando elle a sua voz, grande estrondo de aguas ha nos céus, e faz subir os vapores desde o fim da terra: faz os relampagos com a chuva, e tira o vento dos seus thesouros.

When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the farthest parts of the earth; he makes lightning for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

17 Embruteceu-se todo o homem, e não tem sciencia; envergonhou-se todo o ourives de imagem de esculptura; porque a sua imagem de fundição mentira é, e não ha espirito n'ellas.

Every man has become brutish without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 Vaidade são, obra de enganos: no tempo da sua visitação perecerão.

They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

19 Não é similhante a estes a porção de Jacob; porque elle é o que formou tudo; e Israel é a tribu da sua herança: o Senhor dos Exercitos é o seu nome.

The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of hosts is his name.

20 Tu me és martello e armas de guerra, e por ti despedaçarei nações, e por ti destruirei os reis;

"You are my battle axe and weapons of war: and with you will I break in pieces the nations; and with you will I destroy kingdoms;

21 E por ti despedaçarei o cavallo e o seu cavalleiro; e por ti despedaçarei o carro e o que vae montado n'elle;

and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you will I break in pieces the chariot and its rider.

22 E por ti despedaçarei o homem e a mulher, e por ti despedaçarei o velho e o moço; e por ti despedaçarei o mancebo e a virgem;

And with you will I break in pieces man and woman; and with you will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with you will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

23 E por ti despedaçarei o pastor e o seu rebanho; e por ti despedaçarei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois; e por ti despedaçarei os capitães e os magistrados.

and with you will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with you will I break in pieces the farmer and his yoke; and with you will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

24 Mas pagarei a Babylonia, e a todos os moradores da Chaldea, toda a sua maldade, que fizeram em Sião, aos vossos olhos, diz o Senhor.

I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight," says the LORD.

25 Eis-me aqui contra ti, ó monte destruidor, diz o Senhor, que destroes toda a terra; e estenderei a minha mão contra ti, e te revolverei das rochas, e farei de ti um monte de queima.

"Look, I am against you, destroying mountain," says the LORD, "which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand on you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain.

26 E não tomarão de ti pedra para esquina, nem pedra para fundamentos, porque te tornarás em assolações perpetuas, diz o Senhor.

They shall not take of you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate for ever," says the LORD.

27 Arvorae bandeira na terra, tocae a buzina entre as nações, sanctificae as nações contra ella, convocae contra ella os reinos de Ararat, Minni, e Asquenaz: ordenae contra ella um capitão, fazei subir cavallos, como pulgão arripiado.

Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker worm.

28 Sanctificae contra ella as nações, os reis da Media, os seus capitães, e todos os seus magistrados, como tambem toda a terra do seu dominio.

Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion.

29 Então tremerá a terra, e doer-se-ha, porque cada um dos designios do Senhor está firme contra Babylonia, para fazer da terra de Babylonia uma assolação, de sorte que não haja n'ella habitante.

The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of the LORD against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

30 Os valentes de Babylonia cessaram de pelejar, ficaram-se nas fortalezas, desfalleceu a sua força tornaram-se como mulheres: incendiaram as suas moradas, quebrados foram os seus ferrolhos.

The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might has failed; they are become as women: her dwelling places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

31 Um correio correrá ao encontro de outro correio, e um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para annunciar ao rei de Babylonia que a sua cidade está tomada desde um cabo até ao outro;

One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

32 E já os váos estão tomados, e os canaviaes queimados a fogo; e os homens de guerra ficaram assombrados.

and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are frightened.

33 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha de Babylonia é como uma eira, já é tempo de se debulhar: ainda um pouco, e o tempo da sega lhe virá.

For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

34 Nabucodonozor, rei de Babylonia, me devorou, atropellou-me, fez de mim um vaso vasio, como dragão me tragou, encheu o seu ventre das minhas delicadezas; lançou-me fóra.

'Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has, like a monster, swallowed me up, he has filled his maw with my delicacies; he has cast me out.

35 A violencia que se me fez a mim e a minha carne venha sobre Babylonia, diga a moradora de Sião; e o meu sangue sobre os moradores da Chaldea, diga Jerusalem.

The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon,' shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, 'My blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea,' shall Jerusalem say.

36 Pelo que assim diz o Senhor: Eis que pleitearei o teu pleito, e te vingarei da vingança que se tomou de ti; e seccarei o seu mar, e farei que se esgote o seu manancial.

Therefore thus says the LORD: "Look, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

37 E Babylonia virá a ser uns montões, morada de dragões, espanto e assobio, sem que haja quem habite n'ella.

Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

38 Juntamente rugirão como filhos dos leões: bramarão como cachorros de leões.

They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' cubs.

39 Estando elles já esquentados, lhes darei a sua bebida, e os embriagarei, para que andem saltando; porém dormirão um perpetuo somno, e não acordarão, diz o Senhor.

When they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunk, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake," says the LORD.

40 Fal-os-hei descer como a cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros com os bodes.

"I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.

41 Como foi presa Sesach, e tomada a gloria de toda a terra! como tem sido Babylonia tornada em espanto entre as nações!

How is Sheshach taken, and the praise of the whole earth seized. How is Babylon become a desolation among the nations.

42 O mar subiu sobre Babylonia; com a multidão das suas ondas se cobriu.

The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of its waves.

43 Tornaram-se as suas cidades em assolação, terra secca e deserta, terra em que ninguem habite, nem passe por ella filho de homem.

Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells, neither does any son of man pass thereby.

44 E visitarei a Bel em Babylonia, e tirarei da sua bocca o que tragou, e nunca mais concorrerão a elle as nações: tambem o muro de Babylonia caiu.

I will execute judgment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more to him: yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall."

45 Sahi do meio d'ella, ó povo meu, e livrae cada um a sua alma, por causa do ardor da ira do Senhor.

"My people, go away from the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of the LORD.

46 E para que porventura não se enterneça o vosso coração, e não temaes pelo rumor que se ouvir na terra; porque virá n'um anno um rumor, e depois n'outro anno um rumor; e haverá violencia na terra, dominador sobre dominador.

Do not let your heart faint, neither fear for the news that shall be heard in the land; for news shall come one year, and after that in another year shall come news, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 Portanto, eis que veem dias, e visitarei as imagens de esculptura de Babylonia, e toda a sua terra será envergonhada, e todos os seus traspassados cairão no meio d'ella.

Therefore look, the days come, that I will execute judgment on the engraved images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

48 E os céus e a terra, com tudo quanto n'elles ha, jubilarão sobre Babylonia: porque do norte lhe virão os destruidores, diz o Senhor.

Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come to her from the north," says the LORD.

49 Como Babylonia serviu de queda aos traspassados de Israel, assim em Babylonia cairão os traspassados de toda a terra.

As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

50 Vós, que escapastes da espada, ide-vos, não pareis; de longe lembrae-vos do Senhor, e Jerusalem suba sobre o vosso coração.

You who have escaped the sword, go, do not stand still; remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

51 Direis porém: Envergonhados estamos, porque ouvimos opprobrio; vergonha cobriu o nosso rosto, porquanto vieram estrangeiros sobre os sanctuarios da casa do Senhor.

"We are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion has covered our faces: for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD's house."

52 Portanto, eis que veem dias, diz o Senhor, e visitarei as suas imagens de esculptura; e gemerá o traspassado em toda a sua terra.

"Therefore look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

53 Ainda que Babylonia subisse aos céus, e ainda que fortificasse a altura da sua fortaleza, todavia de mim virão destruidores sobre ella, diz o Senhor.

Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come to her," says the LORD.

54 Voz de gritos se ouve de Babylonia, e grande quebrantamento da terra dos chaldeos;

"The sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans."

55 Porque o Senhor destroe a Babylonia, e fará perecer d'ella a sua grande voz: porque as suas ondas bramirão como muitas aguas: dar-se-ha o arroido da sua voz.

For the LORD lays Babylon waste, and destroys out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

56 Porque o destruidor vem sobre ella, sobre Babylonia, e os seus valentes serão presos, já estão quebrados os seus arcos: porque o Senhor, Deus das recompensas, certamente lh'o pagará.

for the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for the LORD is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

57 E embriagarei os seus principes, e os seus sabios, e os seus capitães, e os seus magistrados, e os seus valentes; e dormirão um somno perpetuo, e não acordarão, diz o Rei cujo nome é o Senhor dos Exercitos.

"I will make drunk her officials and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up," says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

58 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos: Os largos muros de Babylonia totalmente serão derribados, e as suas portas excelsas serão abrazadas pelo fogo; e trabalharão os povos em vão, e as nações para o fogo, e cançar-se-hão.

Thus says the LORD of hosts: "The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary."

59 A palavra que mandou Jeremias, o propheta, a Seraias, filho de Nerias, filho de Maaseias, indo elle com Zedekias, rei de Judah, a Babylonia, no anno quarto do seu reinado; e Seraias era um principe pacifico.

The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief quartermaster.

60 Escreveu pois Jeremias n'um livro todo o mal que havia de vir sobre Babylonia: todas estas palavras que estavam escriptas contra Babylonia.

Jeremiah wrote in a scroll all the evil that should come on Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

61 E disse Jeremias a Seraias: Em tu chegando a Babylonia, verás e lerás todas estas palavras.

Jeremiah said to Seraiah, "When you come to Babylon, then see that you read all these words,

62 E dirás: Senhor! tu fallaste sobre este logar, que o havias de desarreigar, até não ficar n'elle morador algum, desde o homem até ao animal, mas que se tornaria em perpetuas assolações.

and say, 'LORD, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell in it, neither man nor animal, but that it shall be desolate forever.'

63 E será que, acabando tu de ler este livro, o atarás a uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Euphrates.

It shall be, when you have made an end of reading this scroll, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Perath:

64 E dirás: Assim será afundada Babylonia, e não se levantará, por causa do mal que eu hei de trazer sobre ella, e se cançarão. Até aqui são as palavras de Jeremias.

and you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they shall be weary.'" Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
