Jeremias 5
1 Dae voltas ás ruas de Jerusalem, e vêde agora; e informae-vos, e buscae pelas suas praças, a ver se achaes alguem, ou se ha algum que faça juizo ou busque a verdade; e eu lhe perdoarei a ella.
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justly, that seeketh truth; and I will pardon her.
2 E ainda que digam: Vive o Senhor, comtudo falsamente juram.
And though they say: 'As the LORD liveth', surely they swear falsely.
3 Ah Senhor, porventura os teus olhos não attentam para a verdade? feriste-os, e não lhes doeu: consumiste-os, e não quizeram receber castigo: endureceram as suas faces mais do que uma rocha; não quizeram voltar.
O LORD, are not Thine eyes upon truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they were not affected; Thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction; they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
4 Eu, porém, disse: Devéras pobres são estes: estão enlouquecidos; pois não sabem o caminho do Senhor, o juizo do seu Deus
And I said: 'Surely these are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the ordinance of their God;
5 Irei aos grandes, e fallarei com elles; porque elles sabem o caminho do Senhor, o juizo do seu Deus; porém estes juntamente quebrantaram o jugo, e romperam as ataduras.
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of the LORD, and the ordinance of their God.' But these had altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bands.
6 Por isso um leão do bosque os feriu, um lobo dos desertos os assolará; um leopardo vigia contra as suas cidades: qualquer que sair d'ellas será despedaçado; porque as suas transgressões se multiplicaram, multiplicaram-se as suas apostasias.
Wherefore a lion out of the forest doth slay them, a wolf of the deserts doth spoil them, a leopard watcheth over their cities, every one that goeth out thence is torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, their backslidings are increased.
7 Como, vendo isto, te perdoaria? teus filhos me deixam a mim e juram pelos que não são deuses: quando os fartei, então adulteraram, e em casa de meretriz se ajuntaram em tropas.
Wherefore should I pardon thee? The children have forsaken Me, and sworn by no-gods; and when I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the harlots' houses.
8 Como cavallos bem fartos, levantam-se pela manhã, rinchando cada um á mulher do seu companheiro.
They are become as well-fed horses, lusty stallions; every one neigheth after his neighbour's wife.
9 Porventura não faria visitação por estas coisas, diz o Senhor, ou não se vingaria a minha alma de uma nação como esta?
Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD; and shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 Subi aos seus muros, e destrui-os (porém não façaes uma destruição final); tirae as suas ameias; porque não são do Senhor
Go ye up into her rows, and destroy, but make not a full end; take away her shoots; for they are not the LORD'S.
11 Porque aleivosissimamente se houveram contra mim a casa de Israel e a casa de Judah, diz o Senhor.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against Me, saith the LORD.
12 Negam ao Senhor, e dizem: Não é Elle: e; Nem nos sobrevirá mal, nem veremos espada nem fome.
They have belied the LORD, and said: 'It is not He, neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine;
13 E até os prophetas pararão em vento, porque a palavra não está com elles: assim lhes succederá a elles mesmos.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them; thus be it done unto them.'
14 Portanto assim diz o Senhor, o Deus dos Exercitos: Porquanto fallaste tal palavra, eis que converterei as minhas palavras na tua bocca em fogo, e a este povo em lenha, e os consumirá.
Wherefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make My words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
15 Eis que trarei sobre vós uma nação de longe, ó casa de Israel, diz o Senhor: é uma nação robusta, é uma nação antiquissima, uma nação cuja lingua ignorarás, e não entenderás o que ella fallar.
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD; it is an enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
16 A sua aljava é como uma sepultura aberta: todos elles são valentes.
Their quiver is an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
17 E comerão a tua sega e o teu pão, que haviam de comer teus filhos e tuas filhas; comerão as tuas ovelhas e as tuas vaccas; comerão a tua vide e a tua figueira: as tuas cidades fortes, em que confiavas, empobrecerão á espada.
And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, they shall eat up thy sons and thy daughters, they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds, they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees; they shall batter thy fortified cities, wherein thou trusteth, with the sword.
18 Comtudo, ainda n'aquelles dias, diz o Senhor, não farei de vós uma destruição final.
But even in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
19 E succederá que, quando disserdes: Porque nos fez o Senhor nosso Deus todas estas coisas? então lhes dirás: Como vós me deixastes, e servistes a deuses estranhos na vossa terra, assim servireis a estrangeiros, em terra que não é vossa
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say: 'Wherefore hath the LORD our God done all these things unto us?' then shalt Thou say unto them: 'Like as ye have forsaken Me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.'
20 Annunciae isto na casa de Jacob, e fazei-o ouvir em Judah, dizendo:
Declare ye this in the house of Jacob, and announce it in Judah, saying:
21 Ouvi agora isto, ó povo louco, e sem coração, que tendes olhos e não vêdes, que tendes ouvidos e não ouvis
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding, that have eyes, and see not, that have ears, and hear not:
22 Porventura me não temereis a mim? diz o Senhor; não temereis diante de mim, que puz a areia por limite ao mar, por ordenança eterna, a qual não traspassará? ainda que se levantem as suas ondas, comtudo não prevalecerão; ainda que bramam, comtudo não a traspassarão.
Fear ye not Me? saith the LORD; Will ye not tremble at My presence? Who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, an everlasting ordinance, which it cannot pass; and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.
23 Porém este povo é de coração rebelde e pertinaz: já se rebellaram e se retiram.
But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted, and gone.
24 E não dizem no seu coração: Temamos agora ao Senhor nosso Deus, que dá chuva, a temporã e a tardia, ao seu tempo; e as semanas determinadas da sega nos conserva.
Neither say they in their heart: 'Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth the former rain, and the latter in due season; that keepeth for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.'
25 As vossas iniquidades desviam estas coisas, e os vossos peccados apartam de vós o bem.
Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good from you.
26 Porque impios se acham entre o meu povo: cada um anda espiando, como se acaçapam os passarinheiros; armam laços perniciosos, com que prendem os homens.
For among My people are found wicked men; they pry, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.
27 Como a gaiola está cheia de passaros, assim estão cheias as suas casas de engano; por isso se engrandeceram, e enriqueceram.
As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; therefore they are become great, and waxen rich;
28 Engordam-se, alisam-se, e sobre-pujam até os feitos dos malignos; não julgam a causa do orphão; todavia prosperam: nem julgam o direito dos necessitados.
They are waxen fat, they are become sleek; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they might make it to prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
29 Porventura sobre estas coisas não faria visitação? diz o Senhor; não se vingaria a minha alma d'uma nação como esta?
Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD; Shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 Coisa espantosa e horrenda se anda fazendo na terra.
An appalling and horrible thing is come to pass in the land:
31 Os prophetas prophetizam falsamente, e os sacerdotes dominam pelas mãos d'elles, e o meu povo assim o deseja: mas que fareis ao fim d'isto?
The prophets prophesy in the service of falsehood, and the priests bear rule at their beck; and My people love to have it so; What then will ye do in the end thereof?
