Jeremias 42
1 Então chegaram todos os principes dos exercitos, e Johanan, filho de Careah, e Jezanias, filho de Hosaias, e todo o povo, desde o menor até ao maior,
Then Johanan and Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the [other] leaders of the [Israeli] soldiers [who had not surrendered to the army of Babylonia], and many [HYP] [other] people, including those who were important and those who were not important, came
2 E disseram a Jeremias, o propheta: Caia agora a nossa supplica diante de ti, e roga por nós ao Senhor teu Deus, por todo este resto; porque de muitos restamos uns poucos, como nos vêem os teus olhos;
to me. They said, “Please listen to our request and pray to Yahweh our God for all of us. Although we were previously a huge number of people, you can see that now we are only a small number of people [who have survived].
3 Para que o Senhor teu Deus nos ensine o caminho por onde havemos de andar e aquillo que havemos de fazer.
[Pray] that Yahweh our God will show us what we should do and where we should go.”
4 E disse-lhes Jeremias, o propheta: Tenho ouvido: Eis que orarei ao Senhor vosso Deus conforme as vossas palavras; e será que toda a palavra que o Senhor vos responder eu vol-a declararei; não vos encobrirei palavra alguma.
I replied, “Okay, I will pray to Yahweh our God, like you have requested, and I will tell you what he says. I will (tell you everything/not hide anything from you).”
5 Então elles disseram a Jeremias: Seja o Senhor entre nós testemunha da verdade e fidelidade, se não fizermos conforme toda a palavra em que te enviar a nós o Senhor teu Deus.
They replied to me, “We hope/wish that Yahweh our God will be a faithful witness against us if we refuse to do everything that he tells us to do.
6 Ora seja em bem, ou seja em mal, á voz do Senhor nosso Deus, a quem te enviamos, obedeceremos, para que nos succeda bem, obedecendo á voz do Senhor nosso Deus.
We are requesting you to ask Yahweh our God what we should do. [When he replies], we will obey him, whether we like what he says or not. We will do that because [we know that] things will go well for us if we obey him.”
7 E succedeu que ao fim de dez dias veiu a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias.
[So I prayed] to Yahweh, and ten days later he gave me his reply.
8 Então chamou a Johanan, filho de Careah, e a todos os principes dos exercitos, que havia com elle, e a todo o povo, desde o menor até ao maior,
So I summoned Johanan and all his [other] soldiers and all the [other] people, including those who were important and those who were not important.
9 E disse-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel, a quem me enviastes, para lançar a vossa supplica diante d'elle:
I said to them, “You told me to tell Yahweh, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], what you were requesting. This is what he replied:
10 Se de boamente ficardes n'esta terra, então vos edificarei, e não vos derribarei; e vos plantarei, e não vos arrancarei; porque estou arrependido do mal que vos tenho feito.
‘You [should] stay here in this land. If you do that, I will cause your [nation] to be strong and not be weak. I will cause you to prosper and not be exiled [again]. I am sorry about the disasters that I [was forced to] cause you to experience.
11 Não temaes o rei de Babylonia, a quem vós temeis; não o temaes, diz o Senhor, porque eu sou comvosco, para vos salvar e para vos fazer livrar da sua mão.
But do not be afraid of the king of Babylon [any more], because I will (be with/help) you. I will rescue you [DOU] from his power [MTY].
12 E vos farei misericordia, para que elle tenha misericordia de vós, e vos faça voltar á vossa terra.
I will be merciful to you by causing him to act kindly toward you. So as a result, he will allow you to stay here in your land.’
13 Porém se vós disserdes: Não ficaremos n'esta terra, não obedecendo á voz do Senhor vosso Deus
But if you refuse to obey Yahweh our God, and if you say ‘We will not stay here;
14 Dizendo: Não, antes iremos á terra do Egypto, onde não veremos guerra, nem ouviremos estrondo de trombeta, nem teremos fome de pão, e ali ficaremos.
instead, we will go to Egypt. There we will not experience [any] wars, we will not hear trumpets [signaling our soldiers to prepare for battles], and we will not be hungry,’
15 Portanto ouvi agora pois a palavra do Senhor, ó resto de Judah: assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos, Deus de Israel: Se vós absolutamente pozerdes os vossos rostos para entrardes no Egypto, e entrardes para lá peregrinar,
then listen to what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt, and you go and live there,
16 Será que a espada que vós temeis ali vos alcançará na terra do Egypto, e a fome de que vós receaes ali se vos pegará no Egypto, e ali morrereis.
you will experience those wars and famines that you are afraid of, and you will [all] die there.
17 Assim serão todos os homens que pozeram os seus rostos para entrarem no Egypto, para lá peregrinarem: morrerão á espada, á fome, e da peste; e d'elles não haverá quem reste e escape do mal que eu farei vir sobre elles.
That is what will happen to all you who are determined to go to Egypt and live there. [Some of you] will be killed by the swords [of your enemies, and others of you will die] from famines and from diseases. None of you will escape the disasters that I will bring on you.’
18 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exercitos, Deus de Israel: Como se derramou a minha ira e a minha indignação sobre os habitantes de Jerusalem, assim se derramará a minha indignação sobre vós, entrando no Egypto; e servireis de maldição, e de espanto, e de execração, e de opprobrio, e não vereis mais este logar
And the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], also says this: ‘Because I was very angry, I severely punished [MTY] [all] the people of Jerusalem. I will do the same things to you when you go to Egypt. [The result will be that] people will curse you. They will be horrified about [what has happened to] you. They will make fun of you, and you will never see this land again.’
19 Fallou o Senhor ácerca de vós, ó resto de Judah! não entreis no Egypto; por certo sabei que testifiquei contra vós hoje
You little group of people of Judah who are still alive, [listen to me]: Yahweh has told you, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ [So] do not forget what I have warned you today.
20 Porque enganastes as vossas almas, pois vós me enviastes ao Senhor vosso Deus, dizendo: Ora por nós ao Senhor nosso Deus; e conforme tudo o que disser o Senhor Deus nosso, declara-nol-o assim, e o faremos.
I know that you were lying when you requested me to pray to Yahweh our God.
21 E vol-o tenho declarado hoje; porém não déstes ouvidos á voz do Senhor vosso Deus, nem a coisa alguma de aquillo que me enviou a vós
And today I have told you exactly what he said, but [I know that] you will not obey Yahweh our God now, just as you have not obeyed him previously.
22 Agora pois sabei por certo que á espada, á fome e da peste morrereis no mesmo logar onde desejastes entrar, para lá peregrinardes.
You want to go to Egypt and live there. So now, you can be sure of this: [All of] you will die there. [Some of you will be killed] by the swords [of your enemies and others will die] from famines or from diseases.”
