Jeremias 2
1 E veiu a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 Vae, e clama aos ouvidos de Jerusalem, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Lembro-me de ti, da beneficencia da tua mocidade, e do amor dos teus desposorios, quando andavas após mim no deserto, n'uma terra que se não semeava.
Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith the Lord: I have remembered thee, pitying thy soul, pitying thy youth, and the love of thy espousals, when thou followedst me in the desert, in a land that is not sown.
3 Então Israel era sanctidade para o Senhor, e as primicias da sua novidade: todos os que comiam eram tidos por culpados; o mal vinha sobre elles, diz o Senhor.
Israel is holy to the Lord, the first fruits of his increase: all they that devour him offend: evils shall come upon them, saith the Lord.
4 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, ó casa de Jacob, e todas as familias da casa de Israel:
Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all ye families of the house of Israel.
5 Assim diz o Senhor: Que injustiça acharam vossos paes em mim, para se alongarem de mim, e se foram após a vaidade, e se tornaram levianos?
Thus saith the Lord: What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
6 E não disseram: Onde está o Senhor, que nos fez subir da terra do Egypto? que nos guiou pelo deserto, por uma terra de charnecas, e de covas, por uma terra de sequidão e sombra de morte, por uma terra pela qual ninguem passava, e homem nenhum morava n'ella?
And they have not said: Where is the Lord, that made us come up out of the land of Egypt? that led us through the desert, through a land uninhabited and unpassable, through a land of drought, and the image of death, through a land wherein no man walked, nor any man dwelt?
7 E eu vos introduzi n'uma terra fertil, para comerdes o seu fructo e o seu bem; mas quando entrastes n'ella contaminastes a minha terra, e da minha herança fizestes uma abominação.
And I brought you into the land of Carmel, to eat the fruit thereof, and the best things thereof: and when ye entered in, you defiled my land, and made my inheritance an abomination.
8 Os sacerdotes não disseram: Onde está o Senhor? E os que tratavam da lei não me conheciam, e os pastores prevaricavam contra mim, e os prophetas prophetizavam por Baal, e andavam após o que de nada aproveita.
The priests did not say: Where is the Lord? and they that held the law knew me not, and the pastors transgressed against me: and the prophets prophesied in Baal, and followed idols.
9 Portanto ainda contenderei comvosco, diz o Senhor; e até com os filhos de vossos filhos contenderei.
Therefore will I yet contend in judgement with you, saith the Lord, and I will plead with your children.
10 Porque, passae ás ilhas de Chittim, e vêde; e enviae a Kedar, e attentae bem, e vêde se succedeu coisa similhante.
Pass over to the isles of Cethim, and see: and send into Cedar, and consider diligently: and see if there hath been done any thing like this.
11 Houve alguma nação que tenha trocado os seus deuses, ainda que não sejam deuses? Todavia o meu povo trocou a sua gloria pelo que de nada aproveita.
If a nation hath changed their gods, and indeed they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory into an idol.
12 Espantae-vos d'isto, ó céus! e pasmae; e sêde grandemente assolados, diz o Senhor.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and ye gates thereof, be very desolate, saith the Lord.
13 Porque o meu povo fez duas maldades: a mim me deixaram, o manancial de aguas vivas, e cavaram cisternas, cisternas fendidas, que já não reteem aguas.
For my people have done two evils. They have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and have digged to themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
14 Acaso é Israel um servo, ou nascido em casa? porque pois veiu a ser preza?
Is Israel a bondman, or a homeborn slave? why then is he become prey?
15 Os filhos de leão bramaram sobre elle, levantaram a sua voz; e pozeram a sua terra em assolação; as suas cidades se queimaram, e ninguem habita n'ellas.
The lions have roared upon him, and have made a noise, they have made his land a wilderness: his cities are burnt down and there is none to dwell in them.
16 Até os filhos de Noph e de Tachphanes te quebraram o alto da cabeça.
The children also of Memphis, and of Taphnes have deflowered thee, even to the crown of the head.
17 Porventura tu não te fazes isto a ti mesmo? pois deixas ao Senhor teu Deus, no tempo em que elle te guia pelo caminho.
Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that time, when he led thee by the way?
18 Agora, pois, que te importa a ti o caminho do Egypto, para beberes as aguas de Sihor? e que te importa a ti o caminho da Assyria, para beberes as aguas do rio?
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the troubled water? And what hast thou to do with the way of the Assyrians, to drink the water of the river?
19 A tua malicia te castigará, e os teus apartamentos te reprehenderão: sabe, pois, e vê, quão mal e amargo é deixares ao Senhor teu Deus, e não teres o meu temor comtigo, diz o Senhor Jehovah dos Exercitos.
Thy own wickedness shall reprove thee, and thy apostasy shall rebuke thee. Know thou, and see that it is an evil and a bitter thing for thee, to have left the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not with thee, saith the Lord the God of hosts.
20 Quando eu já ha muito quebrava o teu jugo, e rompia as tuas ataduras, dizias tu: Nunca mais transgredirei; comtudo em todo o outeiro alto e debaixo de toda a arvore verde te andas encurvando e fornicando.
Of old time thou hast broken my yoke, thou hast burst my bands, and thou saidst: I will not serve. For on every high hill, and under every green tree thou didst prostitute thyself.
21 Eu mesmo te plantei por vide excellente, e todo fiel semente: como pois te tornaste para mim uma planta degenerada de vide estranha?
Yet I planted thee a chosen vineyard, all true seed: how then art thou turned unto me into that which is good for nothing, O strange vineyard?
22 Pelo que ainda que te laves com salitre, e amontoes sabão, comtudo a tua iniquidade está apontada diante de mim, diz o Senhor Jehovah.
Though thou wash thyself with nitre, and multiply to thyself the herb borith, thou art stained in thy iniquity before me, saith the Lord God.
23 Como dizes logo: Não estou contaminado nem andei após os baalins? vê o teu caminho no valle, conhece o que fizeste: dromedaria ligeira és, que anda torcendo os seus caminhos.
How canst thou say: I am not polluted, and I have not walked after Baalim? see thy ways in the valley, know what thou hast done: as a swift runner pursuing his course.
24 Jumenta montez, acostumada ao deserto, que, conforme o desejo da sua alma, sorve o vento, quem deteria o seu encontro? todos os que a buscarem, não se cançarão; no mez d'ella a acharão.
A wild ass accustomed to the wilderness in the desire of his heart, snuffed up the wind of his love: none shall turn her away: all that seek her shall not fail: in her monthly filth they shall find her.
25 Retem o teu pé de ser descalço, e a tua garganta de ter sêde: porém tu dizes: Não ha esperança: não; porque amo os estranhos, e após elles andarei
Keep thy foot from being bare, and thy throat from thirst. But thou saidst: I have lost all hope, I will not do it: for I have loved strangers, and I will walk after them.
26 Como fica confundido o ladrão quando o apanham, assim se confundem os da casa de Israel; elles, os seus reis, os seus principes, e os seus sacerdotes, e os seus prophetas,
As the thief is confounded when he is taken, so is the house of Israel confounded, they and their kings, their princes and their priests, and their prophets.
27 Que dizem ao páu: Tu és meu pae; e á pedra: Tu me geraste; porque me viraram as costas, e não o rosto: porém no tempo do seu trabalho dirão: Levanta-te, e livra-nos.
Saying to a stock: Thou art my father: and to a stone: thou hast begotten me: they have turned their back to me, and not their face: and in the time of their affliction they will say: Arise, and deliver us.
28 Onde pois estão os teus deuses, que fizeste para ti? que se levantem, se te podem livrar no tempo do teu trabalho: porque os teus deuses, ó Judah, são tantos em numero como as tuas cidades.
Where are the gods, whom thou hast made thee? let them arise and deliver thee in the time of thy affliction: for according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda.
29 Porque contendeis comigo? todos vós transgredistes contra mim, diz o Senhor.
Why will you contend with me in judgement? you have all forsaken me, saith the Lord.
30 Em vão castigareis os vossos filhos; não acceitarão o castigo: a vossa espada devorou os vossos prophetas como um leão destruidor.
In vain have I struck your children, they have not received correction: your sword hath devoured your prophets, your generation is like a ravaging lion.
31 Oh geração! considerae vós a palavra do Senhor: porventura tenho eu sido para Israel um deserto? ou uma terra da mais espessa escuridão? porque pois diz o meu povo: Temos determinado nunca mais vir a ti.
See ye the word of the Lord: Am I become a wilderness to Israel, or a lateward springing land? why then have my people said: We are revolted, we will come to thee no more.
32 Porventura esquece-se a virgem dos seus enfeites, ou a esposa dos seus sendaes? todavia o meu povo se esqueceu de mim, innumeraveis dias.
Will a virgin forget her ornament, or a bride her stomacher? but my people hath forgotten me days without number.
33 Porque enfeitas o teu caminho, para buscares o amor? de sorte que até ás malignas ensinaste os teus caminhos.
Why dost thou endeavour to shew thy way good to seek my love, thou who has also taught thy malices to be thy ways,
34 Até nas orlas dos teus vestidos se achou o sangue das almas dos innocentes e necessitados: o que não achei minando, mas em todas estas coisas.
And in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor and innocent? not in ditches have I found them, but in all places, which I mentioned before.
35 E ainda dizes: Devéras que estou innocente, pois já a sua ira se desviou de mim: eis que entrarei em juizo comtigo, porquanto dizes: Não pequei.
And thou hast said: I am without sin and am innocent: and therefore let thy anger be turned away from me. Behold, I will contend with thee in judgement, because thou hast said: I have not sinned.
36 Porque te desvias tanto, mudando o teu caminho? tambem do Egypto serás envergonhada, como foste envergonhada da Assyria.
How exceeding base art thou become, going the same ways over again! and thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
37 Tambem d'aquelle sairás com as mãos sobre a tua cabeça; porque o Senhor rejeitou as tuas confianças, e não prosperarás com ellas
For from thence thou shalt go, and thy hand shall be upon thy head: for the Lord hath destroyed thy trust, and thou shalt have nothing prosperous therein.
