Isaías 40
1 Consolae, consolae o meu povo, diz o vosso Deus.
COMFORT ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Fallae benignamente a Jerusalem, e bradae-lhe que já a sua malicia é acabada, que já a sua iniquidade está expiada e que já recebeu em dobro da mão do Senhor, por todos os seus peccados.
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.
3 Voz do que clama no deserto: Apparelhae o caminho do Senhor: endireitae no ermo vereda a nosso Deus.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Todo o valle será exaltado, e todo o monte e todo o outeiro serão abatidos: e o torcido se endireitará, e o aspero se aplainará.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 E a gloria do Senhor se manifestará, e toda a carne juntamente verá que a bocca do Senhor o disse.
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
6 Voz que diz: Clama; e disse: Que hei de clamar? Toda a carne é herva e toda a sua benignidade como as flores do campo.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 Secca-se a herva, e caem as flores, soprando n'ellas o Espirito do Senhor. Na verdade que herva é o povo.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 Secca-se a herva, e caem as flores, porém a palavra de nosso Deus subsiste eternamente.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 Ah Sião, annunciadora de boas novas, sobe tu a um monte alto. Ah Jerusalem, annunciadora de boas novas, levanta a tua voz fortemente; levanta-a, não temas, e dize ás cidades de Judah: Eis aqui está o vosso Deus.
O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Eis que o Senhor Jehovah virá contra o forte, e o seu braço se assenhoreará d'elle: eis que o seu galardão vem com elle, e o seu salario diante da sua face.
Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 Como pastor apascentará o seu rebanho; entre os seus braços recolherá os cordeirinhos, e os levará no seu seio: as paridas guiará suavemente.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
12 Quem mediu com o seu punho as aguas, e tomou a medida dos céus aos palmos, e recolheu na maior medida o pó da terra e pesou os montes com peso e os outeiros em balanças?
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Quem guiou o Espirito do Senhor? e que conselheiro o ensinou?
Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counseller hath taught him?
14 Com quem tomou conselho, que lhe desse entendimento, e lhe ensinasse o caminho do juizo? lhe ensinasse sabedoria, e lhe fizesse notorio o caminho da sciencia?
With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
15 Eis que as nações são consideradas por elle como a gota d'um balde, e como o pó miudo das balanças: eis que lança por ahi as ilhas como a pó miudo.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 Nem todo o Libano basta para o fogo, nem os seus animaes bastam para holocaustos.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 Todas as nações são como nada perante elle; e as reputa por menos que nada e como uma coisa vã
All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 A quem pois fareis similhante a Deus? ou que similhança lhe apropriareis?
To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 O artifice funde a imagem, e o ourives a cobre de oiro, e cadeias de prata lhe funde.
The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 O empobrecido, que já não tem que offerecer, escolhe madeira que não se corrompe: artifice sabio se busca, para apparelhar uma imagem que se não possa mover.
He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 Porventura não sabeis? porventura não ouvis? ou desde o principio se vos não notificou? ou não attentastes para os fundamentos da terra?
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 Elle é o que está assentado sobre o globo da terra, cujos moradores são para elle como gafanhotos: elle é o que estende os céus como cortina, e os desenrola como tenda, para habitar n'elles:
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 O que torna em nada os principes, e faz como em coisa vã os juizes da terra.
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 E nem se plantam, nem se semeiam, nem se arraiga na terra o seu tronco cortado, e n'elles, soprando, se seccaram, e um tufão como pragana os levará.
Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 A quem pois me fareis similhante, que lhe seja similhante? diz o Sancto.
To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Levantae ao alto os vossos olhos, e vede quem creou estas coisas, quem produz por conta o seu exercito, quem a todas chama pelos seus nomes; por causa da grandeza das suas forças, e porquanto é forte em poder, nenhuma d'ellas vem a faltar.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Porque pois dizes, ó Jacob, e tu fallas, ó Israel: O meu caminho está encoberto ao Senhor, e o meu juizo passa de largo pelo meu Deus?
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Porventura não sabes, porventura não ouviste que o eterno Deus, o Senhor, o Creador dos fins da terra, nem se cança nem se fatiga? não ha esquadrinhação do seu entendimento.
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 Dá esforço ao cançado, e multiplica as forças ao que não tem nenhum vigor.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Os moços se cançarão e se fatigarão, e os mancebos certamente cairão.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 Mas os que esperam no Senhor renovarão as forças, subirão com azas como aguias: correrão, e não se cançarão; caminharão, e não se fatigarão.
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
