Isaías 31

1 Ai dos que descem ao Egypto a buscar soccorro, e se estribam em cavallos; e teem confiança em carros, porque são muitos, e nos cavalleiros, porque são poderosissimos: e não attentam para o Sancto d'Israel, e não buscam ao Senhor.

Woe vnto them that goe downe into Egypt for helpe, and stay vpon horses, and trust in charets, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they be very strong: but they looke not vnto the holy one of Israel, nor seeke vnto the Lord.

2 Todavia tambem elle é sabio, e faz vir o mal, e não retirou as suas palavras; e se levantará contra a casa dos malfeitores, e contra a ajuda dos que obram a iniquidade.

But he yet is wisest: therefore he wil bring euill, and not turne backe his worde, but he will arise against the house of the wicked, and against the helpe of them that worke vanitie.

3 Porque os egypcios são homens, e não Deus; e os seus cavallos carne, e não espirito; e o Senhor estenderá a sua mão, e dará comsigo em terra o auxiliador, e cairá o ajudado, e todos juntamente serão consumidos.

Now the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirite: and when the Lord shall stretch out his hand, the helper shall fall, and hee that is holpen shall fall, and they shall altogether faile.

4 Porque assim me disse o Senhor: Como o leão, e o cachorro do leão, ruge sobre a sua preza, ainda que se convoquem contra elle uma multidão de pastores; não se espanta das suas vozes, nem se abate pela sua multidão: assim o Senhor dos Exercitos descerá, para pelejar pelo monte de Sião, e pelo seu outeiro.

For thus hath the Lord spoken vnto me, As the lyon or lyons whelpe roareth vpon his praye, against whom if a multitude of shepheards be called, hee will not be afraide at their voyce, neither will humble him selfe at their noise: so shall the Lord of hostes come downe to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

5 Como as aves andam voando, assim o Senhor dos Exercitos amparará a Jerusalem: e, amparando, a livrará, e, passando, a salvará.

As birds that flie, so shall the Lord of hostes defend Ierusalem by defending and deliuering, by passing through and preseruing it.

6 Convertei-vos pois áquelle contra quem os filhos d'Israel se rebellaram tão profundamente.

O ye children of Israel, turne againe, in as much as ye are sunken deepe in rebellion.

7 Porque n'aquelle dia cada um lançará fóra os seus idolos de prata, e os seus idolos d'oiro, que vos fabricaram as vossas mãos para peccardes.

For in that day euery man shall cast out his idoles of siluer, and his idoles of golde, which your handes haue made you, euen a sinne.

8 E a Assyria cairá pela espada, não de varão; e a espada, não de homem, a consumirá; e fugirá perante a espada, e os seus mancebos serão derrotados.

Then shall Asshur fall by the sworde, not of man, neither shall the sworde of man deuoure him, and hee shall flee from the sworde, and his yong men shall faint.

9 E de medo se passará á sua rocha, e os seus principes se assombrarão da bandeira, diz o Senhor, cujo fogo está em Sião e a sua fornalha em Jerusalem.

And he shall go for feare to his towre, and his princes shall be afraide of the standart, sayeth the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his fornace in Ierusalem.
