Esdras 9
1 Acabadas pois estas coisas, chegaram-se a mim os principes, dizendo: O povo de Israel, e os sacerdotes, e os levitas, se não teem separado dos povos d'estas terras; segundo as suas abominações, a saber: dos cananeos, dos hetheos, dos pherezeos, dos jebuseos, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egypcios, e dos amorrheos.
Now when these things were done, the princes drew near unto me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
2 Porque tomaram das suas filhas para si e para seus filhos, e assim se misturou a semente sancta com os povos d'estas terras: e até a mão dos principes e magistrados foi a primeira n'esta transgressão.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the peoples of the lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.
3 E, ouvindo eu tal coisa, rasguei o meu vestido e o meu manto, e arranquei os cabellos da minha cabeça e da minha barba, e me assentei attonito.
And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded.
4 Então se ajuntaram a mim todos os que tremiam das palavras do Deus d'Israel por causa da transgressão dos do captiveiro: porém eu me fiquei assentado attonito até ao sacrificio da tarde.
Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of them of the captivity; and I sat confounded until the evening oblation.
5 E perto do sacrificio da tarde me levantei da minha afflicção, havendo já rasgado o meu vestido e o meu manto, e me puz de joelhos, e estendi as minhas mãos para o Senhor meu Deus;
And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe rent; and I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God;
6 E disse: Meu Deus! Estou confuso e envergonhado, de levantar a ti a minha face, meu Deus: porque as nossas iniquidades se multiplicaram sobre a nossa cabeça, e a nossa culpa tem crescido até aos céus.
and I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our guiltiness is grown up unto the heavens.
7 Desde os dias de nossos paes até ao dia de hoje estamos em grande culpa, e por causa das nossas iniquidades somos entregues, nós, os nossos reis, e os nossos sacerdotes, na mão dos reis das terras, á espada, ao captiveiro, e ao roubo, e á confusão do rosto, como hoje se vê
Since the days of our fathers we have been exceeding guilty unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plunder, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
8 E agora, como por um pequeno momento, se nos fez graça da parte do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos deixar aquelles que escapem, e para dar-nos uma estaca no seu sancto logar: para nos alumiar os olhos, ó Deus nosso, e para nos dar uma pouca de vida na nossa servidão;
And now for a little moment grace hath been showed from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
9 Porque servos somos; porém na nossa servidão não nos desamparou o nosso Deus; antes estendeu sobre nós beneficencia perante os reis da Persia, para que nos desse vida, para levantarmos a casa do nosso Deus, e para restaurarmos as suas assolações; e para que nos desse uma parede em Judah e em Jerusalem.
For we are bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended lovingkindness unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
10 Agora pois, ó nosso Deus, que diremos depois d'isto? pois deixámos os teus mandamentos,
And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
11 Os quaes mandaste pelo ministerio de teus servos, os prophetas, dizendo: A terra em que entraes para a possuir, terra immunda é pelas immundicias dos povos das terras, pelas suas abominações com que a encheram, d'uma extremidade á outra, com a sua immundicia.
which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land through the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their filthiness:
12 Agora pois vossas filhas não dareis a seus filhos, e suas filhas não tomareis para vossos filhos, e nunca procurareis a sua paz e o seu bem; para que vos esforceis, e comaes o bem da terra, e a façaes possuir a vossos filhos para sempre.
now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
13 E depois de tudo o que nos tem succedido por causa das nossas más obras, e da nossa grande culpa: porquanto tu, ó nosso Deus, estorvaste que fossemos destruidos, por causa da nossa iniquidade, e ainda nos deste livramento como este;
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such a remnant,
14 Tornaremos pois agora a violar os teus mandamentos, e a aparentar-nos com os povos d'estas abominações? não te indignarias tu assim contra nós até de todo nos consumir, até que não ficasse resto nem quem escapasse?
shall we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples that do these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape?
15 Ah! Senhor Deus d'Israel, justo és: pois ficamos escapos, como hoje se vê: eis que estamos diante de ti no nosso delicto; porque depois d'isto ninguem ha que possa estar na tua presença.
O Jehovah, the God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are left a remnant that is escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our guiltiness; for none can stand before thee because of this.
