Ester 1
1 E succedeu nos dias de Assuero (este é aquelle Assuero que reinou desde a India até Ethiopia, sobre cento e vinte e sete provincias):
And it comes to pass, in the days of Ahasuerus—he [is] Ahasuerus who is reigning from Hodu even to Cush, one hundred twenty-seven provinces—
2 N'aquelles dias, assentando-se o rei Assuero sobre o throno do seu reino, que está na fortaleza de Susan,
in those days, at the sitting of King Ahasuerus on the throne of his kingdom, that [is] in Shushan the palace,
3 No terceiro anno do seu reinado, fez um convite a todos os seus principes e seus servos (o poder da Persia e Media e os maiores senhores das provincias estavam perante elle),
in the third year of his reign, he has made a banquet to all his heads and his servants; of the force of Persia and Media, the chiefs and heads of the provinces [are] before him,
4 Para mostrar as riquezas da gloria do seu reino, e o esplendor da sua excellente grandeza, por muitos dias, a saber: cento e oitenta dias.
in his showing the wealth of the glory of his kingdom, and the glory of the beauty of his greatness, many days—one hundred eighty days.
5 E, acabados aquelles dias, fez o rei um convite a todo o povo que se achou na fortaleza de Susan, desde o maior até ao menor, por sete dias, no pateo do jardim do palacio real.
And at the fullness of these days the king has made a banquet to all the people who are found in Shushan the palace, from great even to small, [for] seven days, in the court of the garden of the house of the king—
6 As tapeçarias eram de branco, verde, e azul celeste, pendentes de cordões de linho fino e purpura, e argolas de prata, e columnas de marmore: os leitos d'oiro e de prata, sobre um pavimento de porphyro, e de marmore, e d'alabastro, e de pedras preciosas.
white linen, white cotton, and blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple on rings of silver, and pillars of marble, couches of gold, and of silver, on a pavement of smaragdus, and white marble, and mother-of-pearl, and black marble—
7 E dava-se de beber em vasos d'oiro, e os vasos eram differentes uns dos outros; e havia muito vinho real, segundo o estado do rei.
and the giving of drink in vessels of gold, and the vessels [are] various vessels, and the royal wine [is] abundant, as a memorial of the king.
8 E o beber era por lei, que ninguem forçasse a outro: porque assim o tinha ordenado o rei expressamente a todos os grandes da sua casa, que fizessem conforme á vontade de cada um.
And the drinking [is] according to law, none is pressing, for so the king has appointed for every chief one of his house, to do according to the pleasure of man and man.
9 Tambem a rainha Vasthi fez um convite ás mulheres, na casa real, que tinha o rei Assuero.
Also Vashti the queen has made a banquet for women, in the royal house that King Ahasuerus has.
10 E ao setimo dia, estando já o coração do rei alegre do vinho, mandou a Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, e Abagtha, Zethar, e a Carchas, os sete eunuchos que serviam na presença do rei Assuero,
On the seventh day, as the heart of the king is glad with wine, he has commanded to Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs who are ministering in the presence of King Ahasuerus,
11 Que introduzissem na presença do rei a rainha Vasthi, com a corôa real, para mostrar aos povos e aos principes a sua formosura, porque era formosa á vista.
to bring in Vashti the queen before the king, with a royal crown, to show the peoples and the heads her beauty, for she [is] of good appearance,
12 Porém a rainha Vasthi recusou vir conforme á palavra do rei, pela mão dos eunuchos; pelo que o rei muito se enfureceu, e ardeu n'elle a sua ira.
and the queen Vashti refuses to come in at the word of the king that [is] by the hand of the eunuchs, and the king is very angry, and his fury has burned in him.
13 Então disse o rei aos sabios que entendiam dos tempos (porque assim se tratavam os negocios do rei na presença de todos os que sabiam a lei e o direito;
And the king says to wise men, knowing the times—for so [is] the word of the king before all knowing law and judgment,
14 E os mais chegados a elle eram: Carsena, Sethar, Admatha, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena, Memuchan, os sete principes dos persas e dos medos, que viam a face do rei, e se assentavam os primeiros no reino)
and he who is near to him [is] Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, Memucan, seven heads of Persia and Media seeing the face of the king, who are sitting first in the kingdom—
15 Que, segundo a lei, se devia fazer da rainha Vasthi, por não haver feito o mandado do rei Assuero, pela mão dos eunuchos?
“According to law, what should [I] do with Queen Vashti, because that she has not done the saying of King Ahasuerus by the hand of the eunuchs?”
16 Então disse Memuchan na presença do rei e dos principes: Não sómente peccou contra o rei a rainha Vasthi, porém tambem contra todos os principes, e contra todos os povos que ha em todas as provincias do rei Assuero.
And Memucan says before the king and the heads, “Queen Vashti has not done perversely against the king by himself, but against all the heads, and against all the peoples that [are] in all provinces of King Ahasuerus;
17 Porque a noticia d'este feito da rainha sairá a todas as mulheres, de modo que desprezarão a seus maridos aos seus olhos quando se disser: Mandou o rei Assuero que introduzissem á sua presença a rainha Vasthi, porém ella não veiu.
for the word of the queen goes forth to all the women, to render their husbands contemptible in their eyes, in their saying, King Ahasuerus commanded to bring in Vashti the queen before him, and she did not come;
18 E n'este mesmo dia as princezas da Persia e da Media dirão o mesmo a todos os principes do rei, ouvindo o feito da rainha: e assim haverá assaz desprezo e indignação.
indeed, this day princesses of Persia and Media, who have heard the word of the queen, say [so] to all heads of the king, even according to the sufficiency of contempt and wrath.
19 Se bem parecer ao rei, saia da sua parte um edicto real, e escreva-se nas leis dos persas e dos medos, e não se quebrante, a saber: que Vasthi não entre mais na presença do rei Assuero, e o rei dê o reino d'ella á sua companheira que seja melhor do que ella
If to the king [it be] good, there goes forth a royal word from before him, and it is written with the laws of Persia and Media, and does not pass away, that Vashti does not come in before King Ahasuerus, and the king gives her royalty to her companion who [is] better than she;
20 E, ouvindo-se o mandado, que o rei mandar em todo o seu reino (ainda que é grande), todas as mulheres darão honra a seus maridos, desde a maior até á menor.
and the sentence of the king that he makes has been heard in all his kingdom—for it [is] great—and all the wives give honor to their husbands, from great even to small.”
21 E pareceram bem estas palavras aos olhos do rei e dos principes: e fez o rei conforme á palavra de Memuchan.
And the thing is good in the eyes of the king, and of the princes, and the king does according to the word of Memucan,
22 Então enviou cartas a todas as provincias do rei, a cada provincia segundo a sua escriptura, e a cada povo segundo a sua lingua: que cada homem fosse senhor em sua casa, e que se publicasse conforme á lingua do seu povo.
and sends letters to all provinces of the king, to province and province according to its writing, and to people and people according to its tongue, for every man being head in his own house—and speaking according to the language of his people.
