Eclesiastes 8
1 Quem é tal como o sabio? e quem sabe a interpretação das coisas? A sabedoria do homem allumia o seu rosto, e a aspereza do seu rosto se muda.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? the wisedome of a man doth make his face to shine: and the strength of his face shalbe changed.
2 Eu digo: Observa o mandamento do rei, porém segundo a palavra do juramento que fizeste a Deus.
I aduertise thee to take heede to ye mouth of the King, and to the worde of the othe of God.
3 Não te apresses a sair da presença d'elle, nem persistas em alguma coisa má, porque elle faz tudo o que quer.
Haste not to goe forth of his sight: stand not in an euill thing: for he will doe whatsoeuer pleaseth him.
4 Onde ha a palavra do rei, ahi está o poder; e quem lhe dirá: Que fazes?
Where the word of ye King is, there is power, and who shall say vnto him, What doest thou?
5 Quem guardar o mandamento não experimentará nenhum mal; e o coração do sabio saberá o tempo e o modo
He that keepeth the commandement, shall knowe none euill thing, and the heart of the wise shall knowe the time and iudgement.
6 Porque para todo o proposito ha seu tempo e seu modo; porquanto o mal do homem é muito sobre elle.
For to euery purpose there is a time and iudgement, because the miserie of man is great vpon him.
7 Porque não sabe o que ha de succeder: e, quando haja de succeder, quem lh'o dará a entender?
For he knoweth not that which shalbe: for who can tell him when it shalbe?
8 Nenhum homem ha que tenha dominio sobre o espirito, para reter o espirito; nem tão pouco tem elle poder sobre o dia da morte: como tambem nem armas n'esta peleja: nem tão pouco a impiedade livrará aos impios.
Man is not lorde ouer the spirit to retaine the spirite: neither hath hee power in the day of death, nor deliuerance in the battell, neither shall wickednesse deliuer the possessers thereof.
9 Tudo isto vi quando appliquei o meu coração a toda a obra que se faz debaixo do sol: tempo ha em que um homem tem dominio sobre outro homem, para desgraça sua.
All this haue I seene, and haue giuen mine heart to euery worke, which is wrought vnder the sunne, and I sawe a time that man ruleth ouer man to his owne hurt.
10 Assim tambem vi os impios sepultados, e os que vinham, e sahiam do logar sancto, que foram esquecidos na cidade em que fizeram bem: tambem isto é vaidade.
And likewise I sawe the wicked buried, and they returned, and they that came from the holy place, were yet forgotten in the citie where they had done right: this also is vanitie.
11 Porquanto logo se não executa o juizo sobre a má obra, por isso o coração dos filhos dos homens está inteiramente disposto para obrar o mal.
Because sentence against an euill worke is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the children of men is fully set in them to doe euill.
12 Ainda que o peccador faça mal cem vezes, e os dias se lhe prolonguem, comtudo bem sei eu, que bem succede aos que temem a Deus, aos que temerem diante d'elle.
Though a sinner doe euill an hundreth times, and God prolongeth his dayes, yet I knowe that it shalbe well with them that feare the Lord, and doe reuerence before him.
13 Porém ao impio não irá bem, e elle não prolongará os dias; será como a sombra; visto que elle não teme diante de Deus.
But it shall not be well to the wicked, neither shall he prolong his dayes: he shall be like a shadowe, because he feareth not before God.
14 Ainda ha outra vaidade que se faz sobre a terra: que ha justos a quem succede segundo as obras dos impios, e ha impios a quem succede segundo as obras dos justos. Digo que tambem isto é vaidade.
There is a vanitie, which is done vpon the earth, that there be righteous men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the wicked: and there be wicked men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the iust: I thought also that this is vanitie.
15 Assim que louvei eu a alegria, porquanto o homem coisa nenhuma melhor tem debaixo do sol do que comer, beber e alegrar-se; porque isso o acompanhará no seu trabalho nos dias da sua vida que Deus lhe dá debaixo do sol.
And I praysed ioy: for there is no goodnesse to man vnder the sunne, saue to eate and to drinke and to reioyce: for this is adioyned to his labour, the dayes of his life that God hath giuen him vnder the sunne.
16 Applicando eu o meu coração a entender a sabedoria, e a ver a occupação que ha sobre a terra; que nem de dia nem de noite vê o homem somno nos seus olhos.
When I applied mine heart to knowe wisedome, and to behold the busines that is done on earth, that neither day nor night the eyes of man take sleepe,
17 Então vi toda a obra de Deus, que o homem não pode alcançar, a obra que se faz debaixo do sol, pela qual trabalha o homem para a buscar, porém não a achará; e, ainda que diga o sabio que a virá a saber, nem por isso a poderá alcançar.
Then I behelde the whole worke of God, that man cannot finde out ye worke that is wrought vnder the sunne: for the which man laboureth to seeke it, and cannot finde it: yea, and though the wise man thinke to knowe it, he cannot finde it.
