Eclesiastes 5
1 Guarda o teu pé, quando entrares na casa de Deus; e inclina-te mais a ouvir do que a offerecer sacrificios de tolos, pois não sabem que fazem mal.
Look well to thy feet, when thou goest to the house of God, and draw nigh to hear, rather than to offer sacrifice as fools. For they consider not that they do evil.
2 Não te precipites com a tua bocca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar palavra alguma diante de Deus; porque Deus está nos céus, e tu estás sobre a terra; pelo que sejam poucas as tuas palavras.
Be not hasty with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be swift to utter any thing before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth. Therefore let thy words be few.
3 Porque, da muita occupação vem os sonhos, e a voz do tolo da multidão das palavras.
For a dream cometh with much bustle, and a fool's voice with a multitude of words.
4 Quando a Deus fizeres algum voto, não tardes em cumpril-o; porque não se agrada de tolos: o que votares, paga-o.
When thou vowest a vow to God, delay not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools. Pay that which thou hast vowed.
5 Melhor é que não votes do que votes e não pagues.
Better is it that thou shouldst not vow than that thou shouldst vow and not pay.
6 Não consintas que a tua bocca faça peccar a tua carne, nem digas diante do anjo que foi erro: por que causa se iraria Deus contra a tua voz, que destruisse a obra das tuas mãos?
Suffer not thy mouth to bring punishment on thy flesh, and say not before the angel, “It was a mistake.” Wherefore should God be angry on account of thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
7 Porque, como na multidão dos sonhos ha vaidades, assim o ha nas muitas palavras: mas tu teme a Deus.
For in a multitude of dreams is a multitude of vanities; so also in a multitude of words; but fear thou God!
8 Se vires em alguma provincia oppressão de pobres, e violencia do juizo e da justiça, não te maravilhes de similhante caso; porque o que mais alto é do que os altos n'isso attenta; e ha mais altos do que elles.
If thou seest oppression of the poor, and justice and equity perverted in a province, be not alarmed at the matter. For over the high there is a higher, who watcheth, and there is one higher than they all.
9 O proveito da terra é para todos: até o rei se serve do campo.
An advantage to a land in all respects is a king over cultivated ground.
10 O que amar o dinheiro nunca se fartará do dinheiro; e quem amar a abundancia nunca se fartará da renda: tambem isto é vaidade.
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; and he that loveth riches shall have no profit from them. This also is vanity.
11 Onde a fazenda se multiplica, ali se multiplicam tambem os que a comem: que mais proveito pois teem os seus donos do que verem-n'a com os seus olhos?
When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage hath the owner thereof, save the beholding of them with his eyes?
12 Doce é o somno do trabalhador, quer coma pouco quer muito; porém a fartura do rico não o deixa dormir.
Sweet is the sleep of a laboring man, whether he have eaten little or much; but the repletion of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
13 Ha mal que vi debaixo do sol, e attrahe enfermidades: as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o seu proprio mal;
There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, — riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt.
14 Porque as mesmas riquezas se perdem com enfadonhas occupações, e gerando algum filho nada lhe fica na sua mão.
For those riches perish by some calamity, and, if he have a son, there is nothing in his hand.
15 Como saiu do ventre de sua mãe, assim nú se tornará, indo-se como veiu; e nada tomará do seu trabalho, que possa levar na sua mão
As he came forth from his mother's womb naked, so shall he go away again, as he came, and shall take away nothing of his labor which he may carry in his hand.
16 Assim que tambem isto é um mal que attrahe enfermidades, que, infallivelmente, como veiu, assim se vae: e que proveito lhe vem de trabalhar para o vento,
This is also a sore evil, that, in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit is there to him who toileth for wind?
17 E de haver comido todos os seus dias nas trevas, e de padecer muito enfado, e enfermidade, e cruel furor?
Also all his days he ate in darkness, and had much grief and anxiety and vexation.
18 Eis aqui o que eu vi, uma boa e bella coisa: comer e beber, e gozar-se do bem de todo o seu trabalho, em que trabalhou debaixo do sol, durante o numero dos dias da sua vida que Deus lhe deu, porque esta é a sua porção.
Behold, what I have seen is, that it is good and proper for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor which he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him; for it is his portion.
19 E todo o homem, a quem Deus deu riquezas e fazenda, e lhe deu poder para comer d'ellas, e tomar a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho: isto é dom de Deus.
To whatever man also God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him to enjoy them, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.
20 Porque não se lembrará muito dos dias da sua vida; porquanto Deus lhe responde com alegria do seu coração.
For he will not much remember the days of his life; for God answereth him with the joy of his heart.
