Eclesiastes 10
1 Assim como a mosca morta faz exhalar mau cheiro e evaporar o unguento do perfumador, assim o faz ao famoso em sabedoria e em honra uma pouca de estulticia.
Dead flies make the oil of the perfumer loathsome and corrupt; thus doth a little folly weigh down wisdom and honor.
2 O coração do sabio está á sua dextra, mas o coração do tolo está á sua esquerda.
A wise man's mind is at his right hand; but a fool's mind is at his left.
3 E, até quando o tolo vae pelo caminho, falta-lhe o seu entendimento e diz a todos que é tolo.
Yea, even when the fool walketh in the way, his understanding faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
4 Levantando-se contra ti o espirito do governador, não deixes o teu logar, porque é um remedio que aquieta grandes peccados.
If the anger of a ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place! for gentleness pacifieth great offences.
5 Ainda ha um mal que vi debaixo do sol, como o erro que procede de diante do governador.
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun; an error which proceedeth from a ruler.
6 Ao tolo assentam em grandes alturas, mas os ricos estão assentados na baixeza.
Folly is set in many high stations, and the noble sit in a low place.
7 Vi os servos a cavallo, e os principes que andavam a pé como servos sobre a terra.
I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants on foot.
8 Quem cavar uma cova, cairá n'ella, e, quem romper um muro, uma cobra o morderá.
He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh down a wall, a serpent shall bite him.
9 Quem acarretar pedras, será maltratado por ellas, e o que rachar lenha perigará com ella.
Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith, and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
10 Se estiver embotado o ferro, e não se amollar o córte, então se devem pôr mais forças: mas a sabedoria é excellente para dirigir.
If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he put forth more strength; but an advantage for giving success hath wisdom.
11 Se a cobra morder, não estando encantada, então remedio nenhum se espera do encantador, por mais habil que seja.
If a serpent bite before he is charmed, then there is no advantage to the charmer.
12 Nas palavras da bocca do sabio ha favor, porém os labios do tolo o devoram.
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool are his destruction.
13 O principio das palavras da sua bocca é a estulticia, e o fim da sua bocca um desvario pessimo.
The beginning of the words of his mouth is folly, and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
14 Bem que o tolo multiplique as palavras, não sabe o homem o que ha de ser; e quem lhe fará saber o que será depois d'elle?
A fool also multiplieth words, though no man knoweth what shall be; and who can tell him what shall be after him?
15 O trabalho dos tolos a cada um d'elles fatiga, porque não sabem ir á cidade.
The labor of the foolish man wearieth him, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16 Ai de ti, ó terra, cujo rei é criança, e cujos principes comem de manhã.
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes feast in the morning!
17 Bemaventurada tu, ó terra, cujo rei é filho dos nobres, e cujos principes comem a tempo, para refazerem as forças, e não para bebedice.
Happy thou, O land, when thy king is a noble, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
18 Pela muita preguiça se enfraquece o tecto, e pela frouxidão das mãos goteja a casa.
By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and by the slackness of the hands the house leaketh.
19 Para rir se fazem convites, e o vinho alegra a vida, e por tudo o dinheiro responde.
A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answereth all things.
20 Nem ainda no teu pensamento amaldiçoes ao rei, nem tão pouco no mais interior da tua recamara amaldiçoes ao rico: porque as aves dos céus levariam a voz, e os que teem azas dariam noticia da palavra.
Curse not the king; no, not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bed-chamber! for a bird of the air shall carry the voice; and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
