Deuteronômio 9
1 Ouve, ó Israel, hoje passarás o Jordão, para entrar a possuir nações maiores e mais fortes do que tu; cidades grandes, e muradas até aos céus;
“Hear, O Israel: You are passing over the Jordan today to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the heavens,
2 Um povo grande e alto, filhos de gigantes, que tu conheces, e de que já ouvistes: Quem pararia diante dos filhos dos gigantes?
a people great and tall, sons of Anakim, whom you have known, and [of whom] you have heard: Who stations himself before sons of Anak?
3 Sabe pois hoje que o Senhor teu Deus, que passa diante de ti, é um fogo que consome, que os destruirá, e os derrubará de diante de ti: e tu os lançarás fóra, e cedo os desfarás, como o Senhor te tem dito.
And you have known today that your God YHWH [is] He who is passing over before you [as] a consuming fire; He destroys them, and He humbles them before you, and you have dispossessed them, and destroyed them quickly, as YHWH has spoken to you.
4 Quando pois o Senhor teu Deus os lançar fóra de diante de ti, não falles no teu coração, dizendo: Por causa da minha justiça é que o Senhor me trouxe a esta terra para a possuir: porque pela impiedade d'estas nações é que o Senhor as lança fóra, diante de ti.
You do not speak in your heart (in your God YHWH’s driving them away from before you), saying, In my righteousness YHWH has brought me in to possess this land; but in YHWH dispossessing these nations from your presence, [it is because of] their being wicked.
5 Não é por causa da tua justiça, nem pela rectidão do teu coração que entras a possuir a sua terra, mas pela impiedade d'estas nações o Senhor teu Deus as lança fóra, de diante de ti; e para confirmar a palavra que o Senhor teu Deus jurou a teus paes, Abrahão, Isaac e Jacob.
[It is] not in your righteousness and in the uprightness of your heart [that] you are going in to possess their land, but in YHWH dispossessing these nations from your presence, [it is because of] their being wicked, and in order to establish the word which YHWH has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob;
6 Sabe pois que não é por causa da tua justiça que o Senhor teu Deus te dá esta boa terra para possuil-a, pois tu és povo obstinado.
and you have known that [it is] not in your righteousness [that] your God YHWH is giving this good land to you to possess it, for you [are] a people stiff of neck.
7 Lembra-te, e não te esqueças, de que muito provocaste a ira ao Senhor teu Deus no deserto; desde o dia em que saistes do Egypto, até que chegastes a esse logar, rebeldes fostes contra o Senhor;
Remember [and] do not forget that [with] which you have made your God YHWH angry in the wilderness; from the day that you have come out of the land of Egypt until your coming to this place, you have been rebellious against YHWH;
8 Pois em Horeb tanto provocastes á ira o Senhor, que se accendeu contra vós para vos destruir.
even in Horeb you have made YHWH angry, and YHWH shows Himself angry against you—to destroy you.
9 Subindo eu ao monte a receber as taboas de pedra, as taboas do concerto que o Senhor fizera comvosco, então fiquei no monte quarenta dias e quarenta noites; pão não comi, e agua não bebi;
In my going up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone (tablets of the covenant which YHWH has made with you), then I abide on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I have not eaten bread and I have not drunk water;
10 E o Senhor me deu as duas taboas de pedra, escriptas com o dedo de Deus; e n'ellas tinha escripto conforme a todas aquellas palavras que o Senhor tinha fallado comvosco no monte, do meio do fogo, no dia da congregação.
and YHWH gives to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them [is] according to all the words which YHWH has spoken with you on the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.
11 Succedeu pois que ao fim dos quarenta dias e quarenta noites, o Senhor me deu as duas taboas de pedra, as taboas do concerto.
And it comes to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, YHWH has given the two tablets of stone to me—tablets of the covenant.
12 E o Senhor me disse: Levanta-te, desce depressa d'aqui, porque o teu povo, que tiraste do Egypto, já se tem corrompido: cedo se desviaram do caminho que eu lhes tinha ordenado: imagem de fundição para si fizeram.
Then YHWH says to me, Rise, go down, hurry from here, for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have done corruptly; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I have commanded them—they have made a molten thing for themselves!
13 Fallou-me mais o Senhor, dizendo: Attentei para este povo, e eis-que elle é povo obstinado:
And YHWH speaks to me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it [is] a people stiff of neck.
14 Deixa-me que os destrua, e apague o seu nome de debaixo dos céus: e te faça a ti nação mais poderosa e mais numerosa do que esta.
Desist from Me, and I destroy them, and blot out their name from under the heavens, and I make you become a nation more mighty and numerous than it.
15 Então virei-me, e desci do monte; e o monte ardia em fogo e as duas taboas do concerto estavam em ambas as minhas mãos.
And I turn and come down from the mountain, and the mountain is burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant [are] on my two hands,
16 E olhei, e eis-que havieis peccado contra o Senhor vosso Deus; vós tinheis feito um bezerro de fundição: cedo vos desviastes do caminho que o Senhor vos ordenara.
and I see, and behold, you have sinned against your God YHWH; you have made a molten calf for yourselves; you have quickly turned aside from the way which YHWH has commanded you.
17 Então peguei das duas taboas, e as arrojei d'ambas as minhas mãos, e as quebrei aos vossos olhos.
And I lay hold on the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and break them before your eyes,
18 E me lancei perante o Senhor; como d'antes, quarenta dias e quarenta noites não comi pão e não bebi agua, por causa de todo o vosso peccado que havieis peccado, fazendo mal aos olhos do Senhor, para o provocar á ira
and I throw myself before YHWH, as at first, [for] forty days and forty nights; I have not eaten bread and I have not drunk water, because of all your sins which you have sinned by doing evil in the eyes of YHWH, to make Him angry.
19 Porque temi por causa da ira e do furor, com que o Senhor tanto estava irado contra vós, para vos destruir: porém ainda por esta vez o Senhor me ouviu.
For I have been afraid because of the anger and the fury with which YHWH has been angry against you, to destroy you; and YHWH also listens to me at this time.
20 Tambem o Senhor se irou muito contra Aarão para o destruir; mas tambem orei por Aarão ao mesmo tempo.
And YHWH has showed Himself very angry with Aaron, to destroy him, and I also pray for Aaron at that time.
21 Porém eu tomei o vosso peccado, o bezerro que tinheis feito, e o queimei a fogo, e o pisei, moendo-o bem, até que se desfez em pó: e o seu pó lancei no ribeiro que descia do monte.
And I have taken your sin, the calf which you have made, and I burn it with fire, and beat it, grinding well until it [is] small as dust, and I cast its dust into the brook which is going down out of the mountain.
22 Tambem em Taberah, e em Massah, e em Quibroth-hattaava provocastes muito a ira do Senhor.
And in Taberah, and in Massah, and in Kibroth-Hattaavah, you have been making YHWH angry;
23 Quando tambem o Senhor vos enviou desde Cades-barnea, dizendo: Subi, e possui a terra, que vos tenho dado: rebeldes fostes ao mandado do Senhor vosso Deus, e não o crestes, e não obedecestes á sua voz.
also in YHWH’s sending you from Kadesh-Barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given to you; then you provoke the mouth of your God YHWH, and have not given credence to Him, nor listened to His voice.
24 Rebeldes fostes contra o Senhor desde o dia em que vos conheci.
You have been rebellious against YHWH from the day of my knowing you.
25 E prostrei-me perante o Senhor aquelles quarenta dias e quarenta noites em que estava prostrado; porquanto o Senhor dissera que vos queria destruir.
And I throw myself before YHWH—the forty days and the forty nights when I had thrown myself—because YHWH has commanded to destroy you;
26 E eu orei ao Senhor, dizendo: Senhor Deus, não destruas o teu povo e a tua herança, que resgataste com a tua grandeza, que tiraste do Egypto com mão forte.
and I pray to YHWH, and say, Lord YHWH, do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance whom You have ransomed in Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a strong hand;
27 Lembra-te dos teus servos, Abrahão, Isaac, e Jacob: não attentes para a dureza d'este povo, nem para a sua impiedade, nem para o seu peccado:
be mindful of Your servants, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob; do not turn to the stiffness of this people, and to its wickedness, and to its sin,
28 Para que o povo da terra d'onde nos tiraste não diga: Porquanto o Senhor os não pode introduzir na terra de que lhes tinha fallado, e porque os aborrecia, os tirou para os matar no deserto:
lest the land from which You have brought us out says, Because of YHWH’s want of ability to bring them into the land of which He has spoken to them, and because of His hating them, He brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.
29 Todavia são elles o teu povo e a tua herança, que tu tiraste com a tua grande força e com o teu braço estendido.
And they [are] Your people and Your inheritance, whom You have brought out by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!”
