Deuteronômio 2
1 Depois virámo-nos, e caminhámos ao deserto, caminho do Mar Vermelho, como o Senhor me tinha dito, e muitos dias rodeámos a montanha de Seir.
Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.
2 Então o Senhor me fallou, dizendo:
At this time the LORD said to me,
3 Assás tendes rodeado esta montanha: virae-vos para o norte.
“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
4 E dá ordem ao povo, dizendo: Passareis pelos termos de vossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir: e elles terão medo de vós; porém guardae-vos bem,
and command the people: ‘You will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.
5 Não vos entremettaes com elles, porque vos não darei da sua terra nem ainda a pisada da planta de um pé: porquanto a Esaú tenho dado a montanha de Seir por herança.
Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as his possession.
6 Comprareis d'elles, por dinheiro, comida para comerdes: e tambem agua para beber d'elles comprareis por dinheiro.
You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”
7 Pois o Senhor teu Deus te abençoou em toda a obra das tuas mãos; elle sabe que andas por este grande deserto: estes quarenta annos o Senhor teu Deus esteve comtigo, coisa nenhuma te faltou.
Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
8 Passando pois de nossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitavam em Seir, desde o caminho da planicie de Elath e de Ezeon-geber, nos virámos e passámos o caminho do deserto de Moab.
So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion-geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
9 Então o Senhor me disse: Não molestes a Moab, e não contendas com elles em peleja, porque te não darei herança da sua terra; porquanto tenho dado a Ar aos filhos de Lot por herança.
Then the LORD said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
10 (Os emeos d'antes habitaram n'ella: um povo grande e numeroso, e alto como os gigantes;
(The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.
11 Tambem estes foram contados por gigantes como os enaquins: e os moabitas os chamavam emeos.
Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
12 D'antes os horeos tambem habitaram em Seir: porém os filhos de Esaú os lançaram fóra, e os destruiram de diante de si, e habitaram no seu logar, assim como Israel fez á terra da sua herança, que o Senhor lhes tinha dado.
The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
13 Levantae-vos agora, e passae o ribeiro de Zered: assim passámos o ribeiro de Zered.
“Now arise and cross over the Brook of Zered.” So we crossed over the Brook of Zered.
14 E os dias que caminhámos, desde Cades-barnea até que passámos o ribeiro de Zered, foram trinta e oito annos, até que toda aquella geração dos homens de guerra se consumiu do meio do arraial, como o Senhor lhes jurara.
The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.
15 Assim tambem foi contra elles a mão do Senhor, para os destruir do meio do arraial até os haver consumido.
Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.
16 E succedeu que, sendo já consumidos todos os homens de guerra, pela morte, do meio do arraial.
Now when all the fighting men among the people had died,
17 O Senhor me fallou, dizendo:
the LORD said to me,
18 Hoje passarás a Ar, pelos termos de Moab;
“Today you are going to cross the border of Moab at Ar.
19 E te chegarás até defronte dos filhos de Ammon: não os molestes, e com elles não contendas: porque da terra dos filhos de Ammon te não darei herança, porquanto aos filhos de Lot a tenho dado por herança.
But when you get close to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
20 (Tambem esta foi contada por terra de gigantes; d'antes n'ella habitavam gigantes, e os ammonitas os chamavam zamzummeos:
(That too was regarded as the land of the Rephaim, who used to live there, though the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
21 Um povo grande, e numeroso, e alto, como os gigantes: e o Senhor os destruiu de diante de si, e elles os lançaram fóra, e habitaram no seu logar;
They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
22 Assim como fez com os filhos d'Esaú, que habitavam em Seir, de diante dos quaes destruiu os horeos, e elles os lançaram fóra, e habitaram no seu logar até este dia
just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
23 Tambem os caftoreos, que sairam de Caftor, destruiram os aveos, que habitavam em Kazerim até Gaza, e habitaram no seu logar).
And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, were destroyed by the Caphtorites, who came out of Caphtor and settled in their place.)
24 Levantae-vos, parti e passae o ribeiro d'Arnon; eis-aqui na tua mão tenho dado a Sehon, amorrheo, rei de Hesbon, e a sua terra; começa a possuil-a, e contende com elles em peleja.
“Arise, set out, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.
25 N'este dia começarei a pôr um terror e um temor de ti diante dos povos que estão debaixo de todo o céu: os que ouvirem a tua fama tremerão diante de ti e se angustiarão.
This very day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and tremble in anguish because of you.”
26 Então mandei mensageiros desde o deserto de Quedemoth a Sehon, rei de Hesbon, com palavras de paz, dizendo:
So from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of Heshbon, saying,
27 Deixa-me passar pela tua terra: sómente pela estrada irei; não me desviarei para a direita nem para a esquerda.
“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
28 A comida que eu coma vender-m'a-has por dinheiro, e dar-me-has por dinheiro a agua que beba: tão sómente deixa-me passar a pé;
You can sell us food to eat and water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,
29 Como fizeram comigo os filhos d'Esaú, que habitam em Seir, e os moabitas que habitam em Ar: até que eu passe o Jordão, a terra que o Senhor nosso Deus nos ha de dar.
just as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for us, until we cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.”
30 Mas Sehon, rei de Hesbon, não nos quiz deixar passar por si, porquanto o Senhor teu Deus endurecera o seu espirito, e fizera obstinado o seu coração, por t'o dar na tua mão, como n'este dia se vê.
But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as is the case this day.
31 E o Senhor me disse: Eis-aqui, tenho começado a dar-te Sehon, e a sua terra diante de ti: começa pois a possuil-a, para que herdes a sua terra.
Then the LORD said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”
32 E Sehon saiu-nos ao encontro, elle e todo o seu povo, á peleja, a Jahaz:
So Sihon and his whole army came out for battle against us at Jahaz.
33 E o Senhor nosso Deus nol-o deu diante de nós, e o ferimos a elle, e a seus filhos, e a todo o seu povo.
And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him and his sons and his whole army.
34 E n'aquelle tempo tomámos todas as suas cidades, e destruimos todas as cidades, homens, e mulheres e creanças: não deixámos a ninguem.
At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.
35 Sómente tomámos em presa o gado para nós, e o despojo das cidades que tinhamos tomado.
We carried off for ourselves only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we captured.
36 Desde Aroer, que está á borda do ribeiro d'Arnon, e a cidade que está junto ao ribeiro, até Gilead, nenhuma cidade houve que de nós escapasse: tudo isto o Senhor nosso Deus nos entregou diante de nós.
From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
37 Sómente á terra dos filhos de Ammon não chegaste: nem a toda a borda do ribeiro de Jabbok, nem ás cidades da montanha, nem a coisa alguma que nos prohibira o Senhor nosso Deus.
But you did not go near the land of the Ammonites, or the land along the banks of the Jabbok River, or the cities of the hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
