Atos 26
1 Depois Agrippa disse a Paulo: Permitte-se-te fallar por ti mesmo. Então Paulo, estendendo a mão em sua defeza, respondeu:
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and began his defense:
2 Tenho-me por venturoso, ó rei Agrippa, de que perante ti me haja hoje de defender de todas as coisas de que sou accusado pelos judeos;
“I consider myself fortunate, King Agrippa, in that I am to make my defense before you this day concerning the things of which I am accused by the Jews,
3 Mórmente sabendo eu que tens noticia de todos os costumes e questões que ha entre os judeos; pelo que te rogo que me ouças com paciencia.
especially because you are expert in all the Jewish customs and issues; therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.
4 A minha vida, pois, desde a mocidade, qual haja sido, desde o principio, em Jerusalem, entre os da minha nação, todos os judeos sabem:
Really, the Jews all know my way of life from my youth, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation in Jerusalem,
5 Tendo conhecimento de mim desde o principio (se o quizerem testificar), como, conforme a mais severa seita da nossa religião, vivi phariseo.
since they have known me for a long time, if they were willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.
6 E agora pela esperança da promessa que por Deus foi feita a nossos paes estou aqui e sou julgado.
And now I stand here being judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers,
7 Á qual as nossas doze tribus esperam chegar, servindo a Deus continuamente, noite e dia. Por esta esperança, ó rei Agrippa, eu sou accusado pelos judeos.
to which our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. It is because of this hope that I am accused by the Jews, King Agrippa.
8 Pois que? julga-se coisa incrivel entre vós que Deus resuscite os mortos?
Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?
9 Bem tinha eu imaginado que contra o nome de Jesus nazareno devia eu praticar muitos actos:
“However, I myself thought that I had to perpetrate many things in opposition to the name of Jesus the Natsorean;
10 O que tambem fiz em Jerusalem. E, havendo recebido poder dos principaes dos sacerdotes, encerrei muitos dos sanctos nas prisões; e quando os matavam eu dava o meu voto.
I actually did this in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.
11 E, castigando-os muitas vezes por todas as synagogas, os forcei a blasphemar. E, enfurecido demasiadamente contra elles, até nas cidades estranhas os persegui.
Yes, I punished them often in every synagogue, trying to force them to blaspheme; I was so excessively enraged against them that I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
12 Ao que indo então a Damasco, com poder e commissão dos principaes dos sacerdotes,
“It was on one of those journeys, as I was going to Damascus with authority and a commission from the chief priests,
13 Ao meio dia, ó rei, vi no caminho uma luz do céu, que excedia o esplendor do sol, a qual me rodeiou a mim e aos que iam comigo, com sua claridade.
at midday, O king, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven brighter than the sun, blazing around me and those traveling with me.
14 E, caindo nós todos por terra, ouvi uma voz que me fallava, e em lingua hebraica dizia: Saulo, Saulo, porque me persegues? Dura coisa te é recalcitrar contra os aguilhões.
Well we all fell to the ground and I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language: ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
15 E disse eu: Quem és, Senhor? E elle respondeu: Eu sou Jesus, a quem tu persegues;
So I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And He said: ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
16 Mas levanta-te e põe-te sobre teus pés, porque te appareci para isto; para te pôr por ministro e testemunha tanto das coisas que tens visto como d'aquellas pelas quaes te apparecerei:
Now get up and stand on your feet; because I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and a witness both of the things you have seen and of the things I will reveal to you,
17 Livrando-te d'este povo, e dos gentios, a quem agora te envio,
delivering you from ‘the people’ and the ethnic nations, to which I am sending you:
18 Para lhes abrires os olhos, e das trevas os converteres á luz, e do poder de Satanaz a Deus; para que recebam a remissão dos peccados, e sorte entre os sanctificados pela fé em mim.
to open their eyes, so as to bring them back from darkness into light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified, by faith into me.’
19 Pelo que, ó rei Agrippa, não fui desobediente á visão celestial.
Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision
20 Antes annunciei primeiramente aos que estão em Damasco e em Jerusalem, e por toda a terra da Judea, e aos gentios, que se emendassem e se convertessem a Deus, fazendo obras dignas de arrependimento.
—first to those in Damascus and Jerusalem, then to all the region of Judea and to the ethnic nations, I still preach: ‘repent and turn back to God, doing works worthy of repentance.’
21 Por causa d'isto os judeos lançaram mão de mim no templo, e procuraram matar-me.
That is why the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.
22 Porém, alcançando soccorro de Deus, ainda até ao dia de hoje permaneço, testificando tanto a pequenos como a grandes, não dizendo nada mais do que o que os prophetas e Moysés disseram que devia acontecer,
So then, having experienced the help that is from God, I stand to this day testifying to both small and great, saying nothing beyond what both the prophets and Moses said would happen
23 Isto é, que o Christo devia padecer, e, sendo o primeiro da resurreição dos mortos, devia annunciar a luz a este povo e aos gentios.
—that the Messiah would suffer; that as the first to rise from the dead He would proclaim light to both ‘the people’ and the ethnic nations.”
24 E, dizendo elle isto em sua defeza, disse Festo em alta voz: Deliras, Paulo: as muitas lettras te fazem delirar.
Well as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice: “Paul, you are crazy! Your great learning is driving you insane!”
25 Porém elle disse: Não deliro ó potentissimo Festo; antes fallo palavras de verdade e de um são juizo.
So he said: “I am not crazy, most excellent Festus; rather I pronounce words of truth and reasonableness.
26 Porque o rei, diante de quem fallo com ousadia, sabe estas coisas, pois não creio que nada d'isto se lhe occulte; porque isto não se fez em qualquer canto.
For the king knows about these things, before whom I speak freely; for I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, since it was not done in a corner.
27 Crês tu nos prophetas, ó rei Agrippa? Bem sei que crês.
King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.”
28 E disse Agrippa a Paulo: Por pouco não me persuades a que me faça christão.
So Agrippa said to Paul, “You will soon persuade me to become a Christian!”
29 E disse Paulo: Prouvera a Deus que, ou por pouco ou por muito, não sómente tu, mas tambem todos quantos hoje me estão ouvindo, se tornassem taes qual eu sou, excepto estas cadeias.
So Paul said, “Whether sooner or later, I would to God that not only you but also all who are hearing me this day may become such as I am, except for these chains.”
30 E, dizendo elle isto, se levantou o rei, e o presidente, e Berenice, e os que com elles estavam assentados.
Upon his saying this, the king stood up, along with the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them;
31 E, apartando-se a uma banda, fallavam uns com os outros, dizendo: Este homem nada fez digno de morte ou de prisões.
and when they had withdrawn they started talking among themselves, saying, “This man is doing nothing deserving of death or chains.”
32 E Agrippa disse a Festo: Bem podia soltar-se este homem, se não houvera appellado para Cesar.
And Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been set free, if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
