3 João 1
1 O ancião ao amado Gaio, a quem em verdade eu amo.
The elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth:
2 Amado, antes de tudo desejo que te vá bem, e que tenhas saude, assim como bem vae á tua alma.
Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers.
3 Porque muito me alegrei quando os irmãos vieram, e testificaram de tua verdade, como tu andas na verdade.
For I was overjoyed when the brothers came and testified about your devotion to the truth, in which you continue to walk.
4 Não tenho maior gozo do que n'isto, de ouvir que os meus filhos andam na verdade.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
5 Amado, obras fielmente em tudo o que fazes para com os irmãos, e para com os estranhos,
Beloved, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, and especially since they are strangers to you.
6 Que em presença da egreja testificaram da tua caridade: aos quaes, se conduzires como é digno para com Deus, bem farás:
They have testified to the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7 Porque pelo seu nome sairam, nada tomando dos gentios.
For they went out on behalf of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
8 Portanto aos taes devemos receber, para que sejamos cooperadores da verdade.
Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9 Tenho escripto á egreja; porém Diotrephes, que procura ter entre elles o primado, não nos recebe.
I have written to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not accept our instruction.
10 Pelo que, se eu fôr, trarei á memoria as obras que faz, palrando contra nós com palavras maliciosas; e, não contente com isto, não recebe os irmãos, e impede os que querem recebel-os, e os lança fóra da egreja.
So if I come, I will call attention to his malicious slander against us. And unsatisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers and forbids those who want to do so, even putting them out of the church.
11 Amado, não sigas o mal, mas o bem. Quem faz bem é de Deus; mas quem faz mal não tem visto a Deus.
Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.
12 Todos dão testemunho de Demetrio, até a mesma verdade; e tambem nós testemunhamos; e vós bem sabeis que o nosso testemunho é verdadeiro.
Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true.
13 Tinha muito que escrever, porém não quero escrever-te com tinta e penna.
I have many things to write to you, but I would prefer not to do so with pen and ink.
14 Mas espero vêr-te brevemente, e fallaremos de bocca a bocca. Paz seja comtigo. Os amigos te saudam. Sauda os amigos por nome.
