1 Timóteo 3
1 Esta é uma palavra fiel: Se alguem deseja o episcopado, excellente obra deseja.
This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.
2 Convem pois que o bispo seja irreprehensivel, marido de uma mulher, vigilante, sobrio, honesto, hospitaleiro, apto para ensinar;
The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;
3 Não dado ao vinho, não espancador, não cubiçoso de torpe ganancia, mas moderado, não contencioso, não avarento;
not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;
4 Que governe bem a sua propria casa, tendo seus filhos em sujeição, com toda a modestia;
one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;
5 (Porque, se alguem não sabe governar a sua propria casa, como terá cuidado da egreja de Deus?)
(for how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule his own house take care of God’s assembly?)
6 Não neophyto, para que, ensoberbecendo-se, não caia na condemnação do diabo.
not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
7 Convem tambem que tenha bom testemunho dos que estão de fóra, para que não caia em affronta, e no laço do diabo.
Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Da mesma sorte os diaconos sejam honestos, não de lingua dobre não dados a muito vinho, não cubiçosos de torpe ganancia;
Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,
9 Tendo o mysterio da fé em uma pura consciencia.
holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 E tambem estes sejam primeiro provados, depois sirvam, se forem irreprehensiveis.
Let them also first be tested; then let them serve if they are blameless.
11 Da mesma sorte as suas mulheres sejam honestas, não maldizentes, sobrias e fieis em todas as coisas.
Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, and faithful in all things.
12 Os diaconos sejam maridos de uma mulher, e governem bem a seus filhos e a suas proprias casas.
Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 Porque os que servirem bem, adquirirão para si um bom grau, e muita confiança na fé que ha em Christo Jesus.
For those who have served well gain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 Escrevo-te estas coisas, esperando ir vêr-te bem depressa;
These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly,
15 Mas, se tardar, para que saibas como convem andar na casa de Deus, que é a egreja de Deus vivo, a columna e firmeza da verdade.
but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 E sem duvida alguma grande é o mysterio da piedade: Deus foi manifestado em carne, foi justificado em espirito, visto dos anjos, prégado aos gentios, crido no mundo, e recebido acima na gloria.
Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
