1 Samuel 16

1 Então disse o Senhor a Samuel: Até quando terás dó de Saul, havendo-o eu rejeitado, para que não reine sobre Israel? enche o teu vaso d'azeite, e vem, enviar-te-hei a Jessé o beth-lehemita; porque d'entre os seus filhos me tenho provido de um rei.

And Jehovah said to Samuel, How long will thou mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill thy horn with oil, and go. I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for me a king among his sons.

2 Porém disse Samuel: Como irei eu? pois, ouvindo-o Saul, me matará. Então disse o Senhor: Toma uma bezerra das vaccas em tuas mãos, e dize: Vim para sacrificar ao Senhor.

And Samuel said, How do I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah.

3 E convidarás a Jessé ao sacrificio: e eu te farei saber o que has de fazer, e ungir-me-has a quem eu te disser.

And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shall do. And thou shall anoint to me him whom I name to thee.

4 Fez pois Samuel o que dissera o Senhor, e veiu a Beth-lehem: então os anciãos da cidade sairam ao encontro, tremendo, e disseram: De paz é a tua vinda?

And Samuel did that which Jehovah spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Do thou come peaceably?

5 E disse elle: É de paz, vim sacrificar ao Senhor; sanctificae-vos, e vinde comigo ao sacrificio. E sanctificou elle a Jessé e a seus filhos, e os convidou ao sacrificio.

And he said, Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

6 E succedeu que, entrando elles, viu a Eliah, e disse: Certamente está perante o Senhor o seu ungido.

And it came to pass, when they came, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely Jehovah's anointed is before him.

7 Porém o Senhor disse a Samuel: Não attentes para a sua apparencia, nem para a altura da sua estatura, porque o tenho rejeitado, porque o Senhor não vê como vê o homem, pois o homem vê o que está diante dos olhos, porém o Senhor olha para o coração

But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For Jehovah sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

8 Então chamou Jessé a Abinadab: e o fez passar diante de Samuel, o qual disse: Nem a este tem escolhido o Senhor.

Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this man.

9 Então Jessé fez passar a Samma: porém disse: Tão pouco a este tem escolhido o Senhor.

Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has Jehovah chosen this man.

10 Assim fez passar Jessé a seus sete filhos diante de Samuel: porém Samuel disse a Jessé: O Senhor não tem escolhido a estes.

And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, Jehovah has not chosen these men.

11 Disse mais Samuel a Jessé: Acabaram-se os mancebos? E disse: Ainda falta o menor, e eis que apascenta as ovelhas. Disse pois Samuel a Jessé: Envia, e manda-o chamar, porquanto não nos assentaremos em roda da mesa até que elle venha aqui.

And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all thy sons here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.

12 Então mandou, e o trouxe (e era ruivo e formoso de semblante e de boa presença): e disse o Senhor: Levanta-te, e unge-o, porque este mesmo é

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and of a beautiful countenance, and fine to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.

13 Então Samuel tomou o vaso do azeite, e ungiu-o no meio de seus irmãos; e desde aquelle dia em diante o espirito do Senhor se apoderou de David: então Samuel se levantou, e se tornou a Rama.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

14 E o espirito do Senhor se retirou de Saul, e o assombrava o espirito mau da parte do Senhor.

Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him.

15 Então os creados de Saul lhe disseram: Eis que agora o espirito mau da parte do Senhor te assombra:

And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles thee.

16 Diga pois nosso senhor a seus servos, que estão em tua presença, que busquem um homem que saiba tocar harpa, e será que, quando o espirito mau da parte do Senhor vier sobre ti, então elle tocará com a sua mão, e te acharás melhor

Let our lord now command thy servants, who are before thee, to seek out a man who is a skilful player on the harp. And it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shall be well.

17 Então disse Saul aos seus servos: Buscae-me pois um homem que toque bem, e trazei-m'o.

And Saul said to his servants, Provide for me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.

18 Então respondeu um dos mancebos, e disse: Eis que tenho visto a um filho de Jessé, o beth-lehemita, que sabe tocar, e é valente e animoso, e homem de guerra, e sisudo em palavras, e de gentil presença: o Senhor é com elle

Then one of the young men answered, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skilful in playing, and a mighty man of valor, and a man of war, and prudent in speech, and a comely man, and Jehovah is with him.

19 E Saul enviou mensageiros a Jessé, dizendo: Envia-me David, teu filho, o que está com as ovelhas.

Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, Send to me David thy son, who is with the sheep.

20 Então tomou Jessé um jumento carregado de pão, e um odre de vinho, e um cabrito, e enviou-os a Saul pela mão de David, seu filho.

And Jesse took a donkey with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son to Saul.

21 Assim David veiu a Saul, e esteve perante elle, e o amou muito, e foi seu pagem d'armas.

And David came to Saul, and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer.

22 Então Saul mandou dizer a Jessé: Deixa estar a David perante mim, pois achou graça em meus olhos.

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.

23 E succedia que, quando o espirito mau da parte de Deus vinha sobre Saul, David tomava a harpa, e a tocava com a sua mão; então Saul sentia allivio, e se achava melhor, e o espirito mau se retirava d'elle.

And it came to pass, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
