1 Samuel 12

1 Então disse Samuel a todo o Israel: Eis que ouvi a vossa voz em tudo quanto me dissestes, e puz sobre vós um rei.

And Samuel said to all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened to your voice in all that ye said to me, and have made a king over you.

2 Agora, pois, eis que o rei vae diante de vós, e já envelheci e encaneci, e eis que meus filhos estão comvosco, e eu tenho andado diante de vós desde a minha mocidade até ao dia de hoje

And now, behold, the king walks before you. And I am old and gray headed, and, behold, my sons are with you. And I have walked before you from my youth to this day.

3 Eis-me aqui, testificae contra mim perante o Senhor, e perante o seu ungido, a quem o boi tomei, a quem o jumento tomei, e a quem defraudei, a quem tenho opprimido, e de cuja mão tenho tomado presente e com elle encobri os meus olhos, e vol-o restituirei.

Here I am. Witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or of whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you.

4 Então disseram: Em nada nos defraudaste, nem nos opprimiste, nem tomaste coisa alguma da mão de ninguem.

And they said, Thou have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have thou taken anything of any man's hand.

5 E elle lhes disse: O Senhor seja testemunha contra vós, e o seu ungido seja hoje testemunha, que nada tendes achado na minha mão. E disse o povo: Seja testemunha.

And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand. And they said, He is witness.

6 Então disse Samuel ao povo: O Senhor é o que fez a Moysés e a Aarão, e tirou a vossos paes da terra do Egypto.

And Samuel said to the people, It is Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

7 Agora pois ponde-vos aqui em pé, e contenderei comvosco perante o Senhor, sobre todas as justiças do Senhor, que fez a vós e a vossos paes.

Now therefore stand still that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers.

8 Havendo entrado Jacob no Egypto, vossos paes clamaram ao Senhor, e o Senhor enviou a Moysés e a Aarão, que tiraram a vossos paes do Egypto, e os fizeram habitar n'este logar.

When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.

9 Porém esqueceram-se do Senhor seu Deus: então os vendeu á mão de Sisera, cabeça do exercito de Hazor, e em mão dos philisteos, e em mão do rei dos moabitas, que pelejaram contra elles.

But they forgot Jehovah their God, and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

10 E clamaram ao Senhor, e disseram: Peccámos, pois deixámos ao Senhor, e servimos aos baalins e astaroths: agora pois livra-nos da mão de nossos inimigos, e te serviremos.

And they cried to Jehovah, and said, We have sinned because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth, but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

11 E o Senhor enviou a Jerubbaal, e a Bedan, e a Jefte, e a Samuel; e livrou-vos da mão de vossos inimigos em redor, e habitastes seguros.

And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.

12 E vendo vós que Nahas, rei dos filhos de Ammon, vinha contra vós, me dissestes: Não, mas reinará sobre nós um rei: sendo porém o Senhor vosso Deus, o vosso Rei.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you, ye said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us, when Jehovah your God was your king.

13 Agora pois vedes ahi o rei que elegestes e que pedistes; e eis que o Senhor tem posto sobre vós um rei.

Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for. And, behold, Jehovah has set a king over you.

14 Se temerdes ao Senhor, e o servirdes, e derdes ouvidos á sua voz, e não fordes rebeldes ao dito do Senhor, assim vós, como o rei que reina sobre vós, seguireis o Senhor vosso Deus.

If ye will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then both ye and also the king who reigns over you shall be followers of Jehovah your God.

15 Mas se não derdes ouvidos á voz do Senhor, mas antes fordes rebeldes ao dito do Senhor, a mão do Senhor será contra vós, como o era contra vossos paes

But if ye will not hearken to the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then the hand of Jehovah will be against you as it was against your fathers.

16 Ponde-vos tambem agora aqui, e vêde esta grande coisa que o Senhor vae fazer diante dos vossos olhos.

Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes.

17 Não é hoje a sega dos trigos? clamarei pois ao Senhor, e dará trovões e chuva; e sabereis e vereis que é grande a vossa maldade que tendes feito perante o Senhor, pedindo para vós um rei.

Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah that he may send thunder and rain, and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah in asking a king for you.

18 Então invocou Samuel ao Senhor, e o Senhor deu trovões e chuva n'aquelle dia; pelo que todo o povo temeu em grande maneira ao Senhor e a Samuel.

So Samuel called to Jehovah, and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

19 E todo o povo disse a Samuel: Roga pelos teus servos ao Senhor teu Deus, para que não venhamos a morrer: porque a todos os nossos peccados temos accrescentado este mal, de pedirmos para nós um rei.

And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for thy servants to Jehovah thy God that we not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask a king for us.

20 Então disse Samuel ao povo: Não temaes; vós tendes commettido todo este mal; porém não vos desvieis de detraz do Senhor, mas servi ao Senhor com todo o vosso coração.

And Samuel said to the people, Fear not. Ye have indeed done all this evil, yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart.

21 E não vos desvieis; pois seguirieis as vaidades, que nada aproveitam, e tão pouco vos livrarão, porque vaidades são.

And turn ye not aside after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain.

22 Pois o Senhor não desamparará o seu povo, por causa do seu grande nome: porque aprouve ao Senhor fazer-vos o seu povo.

For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name's sake, because it has pleased Jehovah to make you a people to himself.

23 E quanto a mim, longe de mim que eu peque contra o Senhor, deixando de orar por vós: antes vos ensinarei o caminho bom e direito.

Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you. But I will instruct you in the good and the right way.

24 Tão sómente temei ao Senhor, e servi-o fielmente com todo o vosso coração: porque vede quão grandiosas coisas vos fez.

Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart, for consider what great things he has done for you.

25 Porém, se perseverardes em fazer mal, perecereis, assim vós como o vosso rei.

But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
