1 E Salomão se aparentou com Pharaó, rei do Egypto: e tomou a filha de Pharaó, e a trouxe á cidade de David, até que acabasse de edificar a sua casa, e a casa do Senhor, e a muralha de Jerusalem em roda
And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon, and he made affinity with Pharao the king of Egypt: for he took his daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 Sómente que o povo sacrificava sobre os altos: porque até áquelles dias ainda se não tinha edificado casa ao nome do Senhor.
But yet the people sacrificed in the high places: far there was no temple built to the name of the Lord until that day.
3 E Salomão amava ao Senhor, andando nos estatutos de David seu pae: sómente que nos altos sacrificava, e queimava incenso.
And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the precepts of David his father, only he sacrificed in the high places: and burnt incense.
4 E foi o rei a Gibeon para lá sacrificar, porque aquelle era o alto grande: mil holocaustos sacrificou Salomão n'aquelle altar.
He went therefore to Gabaon, to sacrifice there: for that was the great high place: a thousand victims for holocausts did Solomon offer upon that altar in Gabaon.
5 E em Gibeon appareceu o Senhor a Salomão de noite em sonhos: e disse-lhe Deus: Pede o que quizeres que te dê.
And the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, saying: Ask what thou wilt that I should give thee.
6 E disse Salomão: De grande beneficencia usaste tu com teu servo David meu pae, como tambem elle andou comtigo em verdade, e em justiça, e em rectidão de coração, perante a tua face: e guardaste-lhe esta grande beneficencia, e lhe déste um filho que se assentasse no seu throno, como se vê n'este dia.
And Solomon said: Thou hast shewn great mercy to thy servant David my father, even at, he walked before thee in truth, and justice, and an upright heart with thee: and thou hast kept thy great mercy for him, and hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 Agora pois, ó Senhor meu Deus, tu fizeste reinar a teu servo em logar de David meu pae: e sou ainda menino pequeno; nem sei sair, nem entrar.
And now, O Lord God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a child, and know not how to go out and come in.
8 E teu servo está no meio do teu povo que elegeste: povo grande, que nem se pode contar, nem numerar, pela sua multidão.
And thy servant is in the midst of the people which thou hast chosen, an immense people, which cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 A teu servo pois dá um coração entendido para julgar a teu povo, para que prudentemente discerna entre o bem e o mal: porque quem poderia julgar a este teu tão grande povo?
Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people which is so numerous?
10 E esta palavra pareceu boa aos olhos do Senhor, de que Salomão pedisse esta coisa.
And the word was pleasing to the Lord that Solomon had asked such a thing.
11 E disse-lhe Deus: Porquanto pediste esta coisa, e não pediste para ti riquezas, nem pediste a vida de teus inimigos; mas pediste para ti entendimento, para ouvir causas de juizo;
And the Lord said to Solomon: Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life or riches, nor the lives of thy enemies, but hast asked for thyself wisdom to discern judgment,
12 Eis que fiz segundo as tuas palavras: eis que te dei um coração tão sabio e entendido, que antes de ti teu egual não houve, e depois de ti teu egual se não levantará.
Behold I have done for thee according to thy words, and have given thee a wise and understanding heart, insomuch that there hath been no one like thee before thee, nor shall arise after thee.
13 E tambem até o que não pediste te dei, assim riquezas como gloria: que não haja teu egual entre os reis, por todos os teus dias.
Yea and the things also which thou didst not ask, I have given thee: to wit riches and glory, as that no one hath been like thee among the kings in all days heretofore.
14 E, se andares nos meus caminhos, guardando os meus estatutos, e os meus mandamentos, como andou David teu pae, tambem prolongarei os teus dias.
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, and Beep my precepts, and my commandments, as thy father walked, I will lengthen thy days.
15 E acordou Salomão, e eis que era sonho. E veiu a Jerusalem, e poz-se perante a arca do concerto do Senhor, e sacrificou holocaustos, e preparou sacrificios pacificos, e fez um banquete a todos os seus servos.
And Solomon awaked, and perceived that it was a dream: and when he was come to Jerusalem, he stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered holocausts, and sacrificed victims of peace offerings, and made a great feast for all his servants.
16 Então vieram duas mulheres prostitutas ao rei, e se pozeram perante elle.
Then there came two women that were harlots, to the king, and stood before him:
17 E disse-lhe uma das mulheres: Ah! senhor meu, eu e esta mulher moramos n'uma casa; e pari, morando com ella n'aquella casa.
And one of them said: I beseech thee, my lord, I and this woman dwelt in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the chamber.
18 E succedeu que, ao terceiro dia depois do meu parto, pariu tambem esta mulher: estavamos juntas; estranho nenhum estava comnosco na casa, senão nós ambas n'aquella casa.
And the third day, after that I was delivered, she also was delivered, and we were together, and no other person with us in the house, only we two.
19 E de noite morreu o filho d'esta mulher, porquanto se deitara sobre elle.
And this woman’s child died in the night: for in her sleep she overlaid him.
20 E levantou-se á meia noite, e me tirou a meu filho do meu lado, dormindo a tua serva, e o deitou no seu seio: e a seu filho morto deitou no meu seio.
And rising in the dead time of the night, she took my child from my side, while I thy handmaid was asleep, and laid it in her bosom: and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21 E, levantando-me eu pela manhã, para dar de mamar a meu filho, eis que estava morto: mas, attentando pela manhã para elle, eis que não era meu filho, que eu havia parido.
And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold it was dead: but considering him more diligently when it was clear day, I found that it was not mine which I bore.
22 Então disse a outra mulher: Não, mas o vivo é meu filho, e teu filho o morto. Porém esta disse: Não, por certo, o morto é teu filho, e meu filho o vivo. Assim fallaram perante o rei
And the other woman answered: It is not so as thou sayest, but thy child is dead, and mine is alive. On the contrary she said: Thou liest: for my child liveth, and thy child is dead. And in this manner they strove before the king.
23 Então disse o rei: Esta diz: Este que vive é meu filho, e teu filho o morto; e esta outra diz: Não, por certo; o morto é teu filho e meu filho o vivo.
Then said the king: The one saith, My child is alive, and thy child is dead. And the other answereth: Nay, but thy child is dead, and mine liveth.
24 Disse mais o rei: Trazei-me uma espada. E trouxeram uma espada diante do rei.
The king therefore said: Bring me a sword. And when they had brought a sword before the king,
25 E disse o rei: Dividi em duas partes o menino vivo: e dae metade a uma, e metade a outra.
Divide, said he, the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26 Mas a mulher, cujo filho era o vivo, fallou ao rei (porque as suas entranhas se lhe enterneceram por seu filho), e disse: Ah! senhor meu, dae-lhe o menino vivo, e por modo nenhum o mateis. Porém a outra dizia: Nem teu nem meu seja; dividi-o antes.
But the woman whose child was alive, said to the king, (for her bowels were moved upon her child, ) I beseech thee, my lord, give her the child alive, and do not kill it. But the other said: Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27 Então respondeu o rei, e disse: Dae a esta o menino vivo, e de maneira nenhuma o mateis, porque esta é sua mãe.
The king answered, and said: Give the living child to this woman, and let it not be killed, for she is the mother thereof.
28 E todo o Israel ouviu o juizo que julgara o rei, e temeu ao rei: porque viram que havia n'elle a sabedoria de Deus, para fazer justiça.
And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, seeing that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.
