1 Coríntios 8
1 Ora, no tocante ás coisas sacrificadas aos idolos, sabemos que todos temos sciencia. A sciencia incha, mas o amor edifica.
NOW concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
2 E, se alguem cuida saber alguma coisa, ainda não sabe como convem saber.
But if any man conceit that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 Mas, se alguem ama a Deus, esse é conhecido d'elle.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 Assim que, quanto ao comer das coisas sacrificadas aos idolos, sabemos que o idolo nada é no mundo, e que não ha algum outro Deus, senão um só
Now concerning eating things sacrificed unto idols: we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.
5 Porque, ainda que haja tambem alguns que se chamem deuses, quer no céu quer na terra (como ha muitos deuses e muitos senhores),
For though there are gods so called, whether celestial or terrestrial, (as of this sort there are gods many, and lords many; )
6 Todavia para nós ha um só Deus, o Pae, do qual são todas as coisas, e nós para elle; e um só Senhor, Jesus Christo, pelo qual são todas as coisas, e nós por elle.
but to us there is one God, the Father; of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Mas nem em todos ha sciencia; porque alguns até agora comem com consciencia do idolo coisas sacrificadas aos idolos; e a sua consciencia, sendo fraca, fica contaminada.
Howbeit there is not in all men this knowledge; but some having conscientious respect for the idol to this moment, eat the meat as sacrificed to the idol; and their conscience being weak, is defiled.
8 Ora o manjar não nos faz agradaveis a Deus, porque, se comemos, nada temos de mais, e, se não comemos, nada nos falta.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither if we eat are we the better, or if we eat not are we the worse.
9 Mas vêde que esse vosso poder não seja d'alguma maneira escandalo para os fracos.
But take heed that this power of yours become not an occasion of stumbling to the weak.
10 Porque, se alguem te vir a ti, que tens sciencia, assentado á mesa no templo dos idolos, não será a consciencia do que é fraco induzida a comer das coisas sacrificadas aos idolos?
For if any man see thee that hast knowledge, sitting in an idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?
11 E pela tua sciencia perecerá o irmão fraco, pelo qual Christo morreu?
And the weak brother will be destroyed by thy knowledge, for whom Christ died.
12 Ora, peccando assim contra os irmãos, e ferindo a sua fraca consciencia, peccaes contra Christo.
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
