1 Synu mój, strzeż moich słów i przechowuj u siebie moje przykazania.
My son, keep my words and store up my commands within yourself.
2 Strzeż moich przykazań, a będziesz żył; [strzeż] mojego prawa jak źrenicy swych oczu.
Keep my commands and live and keep my instruction as the apple of your eye.
3 Przywiąż je do swoich palców, wypisz je na tablicy twego serca.
Tie them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Mów do mądrości: Jesteś moją siostrą, a roztropność nazywaj przyjaciółką;
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your kinsman,
5 Aby cię strzegły przed cudzą żoną i przed obcą, [która] mówi gładkie słowa.
in order to keep yourself from the adulterous woman, from the immoral woman with her smooth words.
6 Bo z okna swego domu wyglądałem przez kratę;
At the window of my house I was looking out through the lattice.
7 I zobaczyłem wśród prostych, zauważyłem wśród chłopców nierozumnego młodzieńca;
I looked at the naive people, and I noticed among the young men a youth who had no sense.
8 Który przechodził ulicą blisko jej narożnika, idąc drogą do jej domu.
That young man passed down the street near her corner, and he went toward her house.
9 O zmierzchu, pod wieczór, w ciemności nocnej i w mroku.
It was twilight, in the evening of the day, at the time of night and darkness.
10 A oto spotkała go kobieta w stroju nierządnicy, chytrego serca;
There a woman met him, dressed like a prostitute, with a false heart.
11 Wrzaskliwa i nieopanowana, której nogi nie mogą pozostać w domu:
She was loud and wayward; her feet did not stay at home.
12 Raz na dworze, raz na ulicach i czyha na każdym rogu.
Now in the streets, then in the market place, and at every corner she waited in ambush.
13 Chwyciła go i pocałowała, z bezczelną miną powiedziała do niego:
So she grabbed him and kissed him, with a strong face she said to him,
14 U mnie są ofiary pojednawcze; spełniłam dzisiaj swoje śluby.
“I made my peace offering today, I paid my vows,
15 Dlatego wyszłam ci naprzeciw, szukałam pilnie twojej twarzy i znalazłam cię.
so came I out to meet you, to eagerly seek your face, and I have found you.
16 Obiłam kobiercami swoje łoże, [przystrojone] rzeźbieniem i prześcieradłami z Egiptu.
I have spread coverings on my bed, colored linens from Egypt.
17 Skropiłam swoje posłanie mirrą, aloesem i cynamonem.
I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Chodź, upójmy się miłością aż do rana, nacieszmy się miłością.
Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning; let us take great pleasure in acts of love.
19 Bo [mojego] męża nie ma w domu; pojechał w daleką drogę.
For my husband is not at his house; he has gone on a long journey.
20 Wziął ze sobą worek pieniędzy; umówionego dnia wróci do domu.
He took a bag of money with him; he will return on the day of the full moon.”
21 Nakłoniła go mnóstwem swoich słów i zniewoliła go pochlebstwem swoich warg.
With much talk she turned him; with her smooth lips she misled him.
22 Wnet poszedł za nią jak wół prowadzony na rzeź i jak głupi na karę pęt.
He went after her suddenly like an ox going to slaughter, like a deer caught in a trap,
23 Aż strzała przebije mu wątrobę; spieszy jak ptak w sidła, nie wiedząc, że [chodzi] o jego życie.
until an arrow pierces through its liver. He was like a bird rushing into a snare. He did not know that it would cost his life.
24 Więc teraz słuchajcie mnie, synowie, i zważajcie na słowa moich ust.
Now, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to the words of my mouth.
25 Niech twoje serce nie zbacza na jej drogi i nie tułaj się po jej ścieżkach.
May your heart not turn aside onto her paths; do not be led astray onto her paths.
26 Bo wielu zranionych strąciła i wielu mocarzy pozabijała.
She has caused many people to fall down pierced; her dead victims are very many.
